Maybe the trolls have forgotten that you bought ASICs from everyone. The reason you're reviewing one is that only one of those has delivered. If those trolls happen to be employees/viral marketers/fans of a competitor, they may want to keep in mind that they're attacking one of their own customers too.

Why would somebody who is into the scam post critical reviews like http://garzikrants.blogspot.ca/2013/01/avalon-asic-miner-review.html where he clearly explains he got paid BTC 25 to write a review?

Just for the record, I was not paid anything to write a review.

The 25 BTC was a donation-refund, and a review was not mentioned at all at that time.

Months later, I was bumped to the front of the line -- again, without asking -- and they asked me to do a review.  I was free to say "no" or ignore them at any time.

I assumed the community would prefer that I write about the machine, rather than keep silent and mine.

Maybe I was wrong?

The actions that Avalon took to most credibly and honestly demonstrate what they've produced seem faultless to me, and I suspect to many people who have some amount of understanding of the technical and social issues related to the Bitcoin project.

Thx for the review, BTW.  It was most interesting to me.  I hold hope that the Avalon team will see their way clear to run their business in a way which fosters both competition and mutual benefit among others who may have the resources to, and interest in, further building a robust Bitcoin network.

There are people here who wouldn't settle even if you dissected the machine. There's even some who would have you dissolve the packaging in acid to look at the die.

On another note, with the package, did you get the tracking info off of it and look it up to see when and how it was shipped? What did the declare on the customs forms? How pissed off was the Dhl guy who gave it to your wife?

I stand corrected. Sorry that I misread your blog post but initially the chronology was not clear from what you wrote. The wording now is clear.

Sweet, Batch #2 units has room for more expansion, does that mean the case will be bigger?

I see they bumped the power supply to a bigger unit if you use 4 instead of 3 ASIC daughter boards?

Six daughter boards would mean the equivalent of one extra fan? That's a big case...

Sucks to see the https://bitcoinfoundation.org blog post only mentions the achievements of Yifu. What about NGzhang?

My personal opinion:
Jeff is in the AVALON scam too.

24 hours after he received it, he posts 6 real photos and some shit a kid can do with Photoshop, when he knows there are close to a million $$$ at stake.

Is he in on the "BFL scam" too.  Jeff posted that he ordered from each of the vendors.  Does that mean we can't trust his BFL review when he posts that?

Bitcoin Foundation should absolutely pull their unit apart, post pics and videos, issue reviews by several different people, tweak the hardware, etc.  Expecting users who've paid for their unit (even if they've received a discount) to do that when they could be mining is not reasonable.
I know we have no reason to doubt him accept he is human!
Now honestly wouldn't you lie if they offered you lets say 100 000$ or 10% of the whole scam?

Happy 23rd birthday Yifu!  Now we know why the first deliveries were meant to happen today and not yesterday.

Regardless of who dominates the ASIC market in the future, I hope you guys will always treasure this moment and use it as inspiration for the future.

Bitcoin Foundation have also received their ASIC and they've posted videos.  At what point are you going to accept the reviews as being legitimate?

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

Perhaps you should learn who Jeff Garzik is. Someone who has done that much unpaid development for bitcoin is someone who is not going to accept bribes.

From what I've read, Jeff Garzik is no one's bitch.

Buyers of the V2 batch, which goes on sale within a day or two, will have room for six sets of chips (V1′s maxing out at 4).
I would assume that they would have to use a bigger case, as there's no room for 6 sets of chips. And 6 chips would use about what, 800W? Any 1kw 80Plus Gold or preferable Platinum would be able to handle that load, and they're all the same ATX size, so of course it would fit.

Jeff Garzik's word is the closest thing to gospel around here
if he says they are real than I believe him and any idiot who says otherwise needs to take their meds and go to bed.

I was skeptical of Avalon at first as well.

I mean send all you Bitcoins to china - thats a scary thought. But  if the man Jeff Garzik is saying this is the real deal
we should all believe him. No joke.

Avalon is the real deal my friends. Maybe they dont have the best customer service. But if Jeff Garzik a core Bitcoin developer received a working unit then that means that these things really exist, and for those who ordered its only a matter of time. You will all see DHL boxes sitting on your front porch soon. This is real .... ASIC IS HERE and we owe our debt of gratitude to Avalon for making it a reality. The Chinese make 95% of the products in your local wal mart so why can't they make the first ASIC based Bitcoin mining device.

My hat goes off to you - congrats to ngz, yufi, and the Bitsyn team, maybe of whom are still good friends of mine.

you guys did what many could not. Congratulations and my best wishes to you all.  You did it guys - in other words - you rock Smiley

thankyou, and peace to you all - maybe someday I will be able to afford one one of these

We owe  all of them a debt of gratitude - they are securing the network and giving us some nice toys to play with

if I said I wasnt jealous I would be lying!

anyways... Thanks Again!!!!! Smiley

Just poking around somewhere I shouldn't be, I'm bitcoin mining illiterate so excuse the ignorance.  What does one of these ASICS cost?  And at current difficulty it generates a reward about every two days right?

Modular, single radiator per module, nice and simple airflow path.
It's a straightforward, no nonsense, very nice, clean and effective industrial interior design.
Congratulations Avalon team!

@Jeff Garzik - thank you for your review!
