Thanks for that quick answer - and the offer. But it's not about that peanuts of BTC. I've only 1.8 GHash running there, so it's not really worth to discuss that ~ 12 hours. It's a matter of principle. Maybe something (problem, bug...), you could look into.

I really hope that this is just a kind of bug by accident, not on purpose!

Defiantly an accident.

The last thing I want to do is steal your hashes.  I doubt is is a bug either (it works so reliably for hundreds of other users) but I will look into it.

Most likely it was a glitch, and most likely it was power, but as I said, I will look into it.

Sorry about that.

It's a matter of principle.

I could not agree more, hence the offer.

Like I said, I will be looking into it.  Any chance you could give some details of your setup?  Hub and power supply are the main things.

I could imagine that his pi was set to default config (lost pools etc) by a faulty powersupply or SD card.  Something similar happened to me a while ago with 0.2.0.

My pi froze after the donation config was loaded (while mining about 5 minutes or so) and was not accesible anymore after that. It restarted by itself and then mined on your pools.

I know its the SD because it an old one Wink

I can accept that. But at first I was really shocked.

To be exactly: Before MP ran for about half a day. Pools worked, I didn't change any settings. Then maybe 10 hours later, it switched to the donation pools. An other miner on the same pool still worked all the time.

At the moment I'm using a D-Link DUB-H7, which powers 3 USB Asic Miner and the Pi itself. A ztex quad board is connected directly per usb to the Pi, and of course powered by an own supply. Before I had a HP Palm USB charger powering the Pi itself, but it usually worked only for 1-2 days and was dead then (no restart, just dead). So I tested the power of the Hub itself. SD Card is a new 16 GB Transcend (I know, it's too big, but I had to buy a new one and the prices are almost the same from 4 to 16 GB).

Edit: Some more info: 0.2.1    cgminer3.3.1    1 days 3 hours 15 minutes 3 seconds

At that moment I used a D-Link DUB-H7, which powers 3 USB Asic Miner and the Pi itself.

That is actually a fairly standard make up.  It is also one that I recently found out that tends to lead to problems.

I don't know why but powering the Pi from the hub that powers some miners (ones that get their power from USB that is) can cause problems, I am still investigating it and it may not be the case this time.  I have some waked out theory that the oscillator on the miner is 'leaking' onto the 5v rail on the hub (and therefore back to the PI).  Its only a theory but i am going to see a friend with an oscilloscope with a setup some time next week.

However, I do need to get proper alerts working.  That would have nipped this in the bud before it happened.

Neil

P.S.  I just looked at ozcion (the donation pool).  Your miner was not mining for me so I don't know what it was doing.

P.S.  I just looked at ozcion (the donation pool).  Your miner was not mining for me so I don't know what it was doing.

Now it's getting weird ^^ I haven't remembered the exact pool configurations (should have made an screenshot... well... if ifs and buts...). That's what I memorize: There were 3 unknown pools/usernames (something with minepeon or donate), two were alive, one was marked red als dead. One of them was btcguild. I'm not sure if it was the dead one.

Edit: My hashrate on bitminter was gone for this miner at 11:30-ish PM yesterday (CEST+2). I've noticed that (and set up back to my pools) when I posted it here. So it was running about ~12 hours on them. The hashrate on the minepeon graphs was all the same - but it made a litte break in at 0:00 AM.

Edit2: Just a guess: On an unconfigurized minepeon, aren't there 3 donation pools set up, per default? Maybe it was them?

Not weird, just a glitch, they happen (it is in early beta after all).

I spent a few hours last night working on a supervisory process that I have in early alpha.  The idea behind the supervisory process is that it loads the miner config file and then verifies with the miner API that it is doing what it is meant to be doing.

If it is not it can do a set list of responses like killing the  miner process (systemd with then restart it), rebooting the Pi, emailing you or even sending you a SMS or Android/iOS PUSH (Those last two require me to spend money, so keep donating Tongue ).

That will lead onto another feature that people often ask for witch is 'mining schedules' where the miner will automatically switch between pools on a set of rules defined by the user (time for example).

Like I said though, all in development.  A cut down version of the supervisor will be in the next release that should have caught your problem though.

Neil

P.S. Once again, sorry about that.

Hello guys!
I am fairly new to the bitcoin community, but I am trying to setup the raspberryPI/minepeon (which is great!) with a couple of erupter USB. I don't understand how make it mine for me! I have been using eligius pool in the past, but happy to switch to other as long as I manage to get to work (I have registered on BTC guild aslo).
I have definitely installed the minepeon correctly, because if I plug the erupter it does get shares, and donates to minepeon.donate.

sorry for this basic help requirement...

screen -r also not working. I can not see cgminer in terminal.

[minepeon@minepeon ~]$ screen -r
There is no screen to be resumed.
[minepeon@minepeon ~]$ screen -ls
No Sockets found in /run/screens/S-minepeon.

Feature Request:

I want to be able to designate any amount of USB devices towards any amount of different pools.
I (will) have 5 to 8 devices (BFL) that I bought with different partners. I need to differentiate the payouts.
Thus I would like have a different pool account with a seperate target address for each device.

Can do, somehow?

I am working towards something like that, it is a bit far off at the moment though, there is so much else that I need to get right before I get that fine a control over the mining devices.

Coming soon though (within a month or so) will be mining schedules where you will be able to set your peon to mine for one account for X hours/minutes, then switch to another account for X hours/minutes.  You have already seen the beginning of this with the 'donation' feature, but as recent events have shown it needs more work and more testing.

I am hoping to get a new release out today that not only includes better stats (% reject, discard & error) and a simple method to calculate your bitcoin returns but an improved method to switch configurations on a schedule.

All of this requires testing so thanks for being my guinea pigs Tongue .

I'm fine with testing releases. So far minepeon has been working great for me.
There are a few features I would love to see in the future:
1) the ability set the network configuration via the web interface (in case I need a static IP).
2) the ability to backup/restore settings and the charts.

Also, what files do I need to backup to save the charts right now? I might need to re-write my SD card soon.

I only have so many hours in the day Tongue .  It is on my list though but there are so many other things that need doing/testing.

2) the ability to backup/restore settings and the charts.

Once I get live update working I will be sticking all the settings into a sqlite DB, it will make for easy backups and restores from the WebUI.

Also, what files do I need to backup to save the charts right now? I might need to re-write my SD card soon.

You need to grab;-

miner.conf  miner.conf.donate  miner.conf.tmp  timezone  uipassword  version

From;-

/opt/minepeon/etc/

AND

/opt/minepeon/var/rrd/*  (that is where the graph data lives)

Practice this now!  I am just uploading a new urgent fix release.

cgminer options will allow you to do this if you run multiple cgminers and read the README (--usb)
