Total balance linked: 194007.44006527 BTC
that's a lot of bitcoin.
almost 1.2% of total bitcoin linked their address with byteball.
9632 users
Where did you get the 9632 users? Did you interpret that from number of entries? Just to be fair, if so, then the number of users is less. I am sure people are registering multiple addresses and/or wallets. Where do you see how many bitcoins are linked with byteball addresses? If it's possible to link exchange wallets or wallets you do not control directly it might be that most addresses linked are part of exchange's cold wallet. According to the official source, you can either make a payment or sign a message from an address you control. You're not bound to go with the second option since you can make a small payment.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

I keep on getting Error: Socket Closed when trying to chat to the bot, I've re-installed and restarted many times, nothing working. Anyone come across this before?

http://transition.byteball.org/You can't link an address you don't control. Hell, if that could be done, I would simply claim all coins. You have to make a payment from the bitcoin address you're trying to claim, or sign a message from it. For your exchange example..... there is no way to know which address the exchange is going to pay with. Also, according to the site, if you claim an address via two diff byteball wallets, then the bitcoin address is ignored. So, even if you could claim it and someone else does, then the address is blocked from distribution.

I think I have multiple Byteball addresses in my wallet. Do I have to link them all with the bot to get blackbytes for each?
Well, linking them all is one solution but not the simplest . I would rather recommend moving all your bytes to one of your linked Byteball addresses.

Is the bot down? I'm getting the connection closed error
The number of incoming connections was maxed out, I increased it now. Currently seeing more than 450 simultaneous connections to the default hub alone. You can also use alternative hubs listed in the OP.
