byteball.fr
now provides hourly updated pictures of all Witnesses activity on the network.

Byteball.fr is an alternative hub (paired with master byteball.org) and community witness operated on a 300Mbps unmetered link.
To get efficient communication and faster wallet sync, or just to use our community-driven Witness:

In your wallet settings → hub set byteball.fr/bb

Hi, I see that all the idea about byteball seems really good.

But:
The distribution method is not for me clear in case I cannot see source code.

Then my question is:
Is public accessible the code, how the distribution works?

In bitcoin, litecoin, etc. you can see all the code and you know, that you can mine or use other Proof-of-X in case other coins.
In this case are most (not all!) of self distributed coins flagged as scam.

Can somebody explain me how technically works distribution? Is all the code accessible?
I want invest money and buy some byteball (as investition), but little confused now.

What is the real difference between a full and a light wallet if it is necessary to recover by recovery seeds? Where can i download the full wallet for win64?

Version 1.8.1 released https://github.com/byteball/byteball/releases.

This is a bugfix release.
* Fixed a rare validation error that could cause a crash
* Fixed handling of responses from malfunctioning peers, this could cause sync to stall
* Fixed a crash when starting a light client for the first time
* Fixed a crash when opening chat on some old Android phones
* Other small bugfixes and improvements

Hi Tony,

My Byteball app would crash whenever I tried to do a full backup, so instead I am backing up the folder in the user local folder manually. This seems to include all the chain / DAG, etc...

There isn't anything else I need to backup that I should be aware of is there?

i read you need to have Byteball on your wallet for 10 may to get byteball and blackbite,
linking BTC works if you have access to one of the address linked in the first distribuition

Hi there, I'd like to get in on the 5th round of Distribution if possible, but am a little unclear on something. Do I need to already own Byteball to participate, or is owning BTC, and proving the BTC balance enough to qualify?

Thanks

Owning BTC is sufficient, but you need to link the BTC wallet in the BB client with the transition bot.

yeah if you chat with the byteball bot , look for how on the site you get :

For the bytes you hold on May 10 you receive 0.1 new byte for each 1 byte of your balance, even if your bytes are not on linked Byteball addresses.

reality ? you fell to Scammers after being in an ICO , IPO
(more like any other stock and index in the world ICO or not got your portfolio down 25 % or 85 %)
Now  SEC is helping you getting back up your lost money maybe....

The folder is enough to recover both bytes and blackbytes. Just in case, here is its location: https://github.com/byteball/byteball#byteball-backups-and-recovery.

You can also back up your seed, but that can be used to recover bytes only. You can find the seed in the device settings under Backup wallet seed.

Owning BTC is sufficient, but you need to link the BTC wallet in the BB client with the transition bot.

Owning bytes is not needed, one can link a BTC address to a BB address anytime, and links stay active forever, so as dbc23 said, owning BTC is sufficient, it has to be on a linked address. You can verify your linked addresses and their balances by chatting with the transition bot and/or on transition.byteball.org.

Full backup stopped working in full clients after the database got too large, we are working on a fix.  For now, you are doing right that you are backing up the data folder manually.

This an Airdrop Distribution – it’s very simple.
Tony distributes 1015  bytes (token) and ~the double amount (2,111,100,000,000,000) blackbytes (token).
There is no code for the distribution (is not required).
Only one rule: You get what you link.

There are two distribution routes:
1.   You can link your Bitcoin to receive Bytes + Blackbytes
2.   You can link Bytes ( which you bought or which you got in previous rounds) to receive Bytes + Blackbytes

Conditions and ratio of distribution see: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1608859.0

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1608859.msg18704861#msg18704861

Download wallet @ https://byteball.org/  and follow the instructions..

Of course its free and open source software, https://github.com/byteball/byteballcore

You can also see the source of the transition bot.

Nice job!

Notice, if you use a different hub, the default GUI client will pull the witness list from the hub, so the byteball.fr hub will push its witness. Just a friendly reminder.

Actually, when you change the hub, "auto-update witness list from the hub" switches off. At least, it did for me. I switched it back on, and it updated witness list as expected.

I see you are returning to the same tactics. I'll paraphrase his concern.

Distribution is done in a centralized manner which requires to trust tonych unless there is a way to prove cryptographically that he can't send extra byteballs to himself without being caught. So now answer this: How is it possible to make sure that tonych (or who sends the byteballs) didn't abuse his power?

Sure, but there is bigger question about future of the "self issued" coins and partial open source coins.
I am thinking if good cryptographer with many skills can find the way to issue some new byteballs?
Why the people trust Byteball?
Look - there is many bitcoin clones and still is bitcoin about 1200 US$.
Then I prefer invest to open source. But I like the idea of Byteball.

Many unclear things about Byteball for me now. Maybe Tony can make it clear.
Anyway, great project!

I think your problem is that you don't imagine Byteball in Top 10 on CMC. Once it gets there trolls will try to shittalk its price down to buy cheaper. So to make sure that they can't get enough food to sustain it's a moral obligation of Byteball devs to provide a way to verify the distribution process.
