Submitted my refund request for the Neptune last night. Love KnC very much and was very happy with my Jupiter, but with the dark horses and apparent venture capital flowing into the mining industry, I'm too much of a small fry to stomach the risk. I don't think ASICs and centralization of mining will kill Bitcoin, it just leaves the door open for other cryptos that are more ASIC resistant to become a strong second. Best to you all.

anyone ask refund neptune?
a more revealing question would be, has anyone NOT asked for a neptune refund...? I have 4 neptunes on order from the previous customer batch. At this point, they still look like a solid purchase. Each one was around 10BTC. I have no idea how the hell I am going to power them and hope that some hosting options open up. I'm sure I can get an electrician in and things will work out but at this point, I don't have a plan for that. www.redstarmining.com - may be offering US based hosting. Comparing KnC to a company in a wealthy section of NY. Old money had a few good sized companies which evolved from earlier businesses. The printed circuit board company was a large employer, was cutting edge and not adverse to spinning off technologies. It spun off a printed motor/motor control company, a multiwire circuit board company, and opened a large branch of its main business, printed circuit boards, in the south where it became the largest employer in the county in an upper scale community. Competition from Asia not too many years back forced the closing of the PCB branch in the south followed not long after by the main PCB company in NY leaving the printed motor/motor control business, the multiwire having closed years before as an uneconomical competitor of mutilayer. The main buildings both in the north and south now sit essentially empty. The closing of the facility in the south was a harbinger of the northern main facility closing. KnC might open another, less expensive to run, facility near the Cloudhashing farm for the cheaper power. Both will run for a while then the distant facility will fold due to inexpensive competition from Asia then the main facility will fold. A manufacturing business has to be manufacturing and selling product to stay alive, making money while the sun shines.

Think again. $40k gets you 5 TH delivered next week. By the time you get the Neptunes, difficulty will be much higher. 5 TH now is far more profitable than 12 TH several months from now.

Off topic, but this looks promising for the future if you haven't seen it. http://uk.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1vsypm/google_is_paying_attention_to_bitcoin_vic/ Google. As for KNC being a manufacturing company, not really. They design, farm out the fabrication..then assemble and pack the rigs. They can do that anywhere, with temp staff doing the body of the assembly and grunt work. It's not like they need premises or staff all year round, just a few months a year they are assembling rigs. A small workshop and offices will do them fine in-between runs, plus their hosting facility. Assuming they do that well, their overheads will probably beat a lot of competitors who have all those premises and staff to pay for ..but those other guys will need to be constantly producing to do that. Not the best scenario for this business with it's production runs and fast development requirements.

faetos..anotherhost is just co-location service, not a full service like KNc hosting. What if you need a new part? they are only open 8-5 like a bank. Perhaps this is not correct info, but that's what I got on their website. In addition, since they ask for 1BTC deposit and say that it is essentially first month, cost would be ~$800/mo in my calc since electricity is 27c/kw in sweden. BTW, did you really refunded all your Neptune preorders. I have two, and was thinking doing the same for at least one.
Um, not really. From their site: We have decided to move away from accepting a refundable deposit to instead accepting an upfront payment that will be discounted from your first monthly bill/bills. As we are unsure of the power consumption we can't give a final price, as soon as we have the correct specification we will give you a monthly price.

in my calc since electricity is 27c/kw in sweden.
If your 27c/kw is correct it would clearly argue for KnC opening a production facility in Iceland. Since there is a family relationship between KnC and CloudHashing, they might have abutting buildings exploiting the waste heat from the CloudHashing to warm the KnC remote facility, see the profits from the lower energy bills, while keeping a core development team in Sweden. Then mining products would go directly to Cloud Hashing and sales to the public would cease as the public, and pre-existing customers, become the competition. It might seem like dirty pool yet a company must do what it must do to survive. Then the survivability of the remote KnC facility won't be purely the profits from selling Cloud Hashing its miners and the cost of competitive miners from Asia, it's also the morale of KnC remote facility management and production staff. If Iceland is as provincial as the US deep south, management at the remote facility gets replaced pretty quickly by locals as the Swedish management get depressed and quit. It stays in business but the relationship with the home office is different as those who quit have friends. Perhaps the remote facility closes earlier than necessary or gets sold off to or licensed to CloudHashing. The home office reads the writing on the wall and folds. Then you've got an empty production facility and unemployed workers. (Insert here an appropriate quote from Cool Hand Luke or Deliverance.) Then what happens is that in choosing which employees go to Iceland they see those with the most children will benefit the most from the move as they are given promotions. Then the grandparents weigh moving as well because the cost of living is better and grandchildren are there. Then other siblings move bringing their family. The grandparents die unhappy in their new country. The siblings can't return to Sweden if they weren't with KnC as once one has moved to a lower cost of living environ, one can't later pick up roots and return, the cost takes a return move out of the question and they remain in Iceland in a community that may now have more unemployed as a result of cheap ASIAN miners driving the remote KnC facility to close. There is a partial work-around. Those moving to Iceland who own homes in Sweden don't sell the homes but instead turn them over to a realtor to control as rentals. If Iceland is an unhappy place, they return home.

anyone ask refund neptune?
further up the thread ...is a guy who got one...also others i know have gotten refunds Searing I already asked for my refund and got my money back. I see people here continue to believe that Neptune will return ROI. I personally do not.... and plus, the amount of power that thing pulls is beyond what my infrastructure can handle. So I've decided to stick with buying/selling BTCs instead. Good luck to the rest of you.

I think a Neptune at 3000 GH will ROI in BTC as long as it starts hashing at around a 5 billion difficulty.
We'll likely hit a difficulty of 5 billion sometime in late March / early April.

Keeping mine. Maybe foolish. Prefer to mine the btc instead of watching the btc price chart, reacting emotionally to every scare tactic the traders can foist.
Perhaps my efforts to conjole KnC planners to produce and market anything that can hash soon are a mistake.

Anyone of you have good experience with Corsair AX1200i for the november jupiters? I can buy them cheap in bulk, but I remember horrible stories with Corsair PSU with the october Jupiters. So I ask your advice first. Thanks

That baby will be like hooking up a gas dryer, along those lines, which uses bookuu power.
