Not sure how many times NYKNYC needs to be repeated for it to be followed.

Satoshi gave us the gift of a "TRUSTLESS" medium of exchange, why people continually try to undermine that tenant is beyond me.

who of you hat wearers would be interested in an individual ColdKey hat edition? Grin
some info & another releases from ColdKey could be found here:
[ANN] History Coldkey - A testimony to Bitcoin - Time for change has come !
[ANN / WTS] Bas Coldkey -- Reeeee: Collectible Cards of Bitcointalk Users.

i would first like to know/see only with it how big the resonance would be Wink

BTCump
for those who missed it on the last page Wink

I may be slightly biased but I think it's a wonderful idea Smiley

Seems there has been a bit of a travesty related to ColdKey cards.  Trust has been breached.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5434506.0

 TL;DR

OP was notified their ColdKey cards had been swiped and then the "me too" posts followed.  Somehow the keys had been compromised and the bitcoin moved.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5434506.msg61586158#msg61586158

TL;DR

Apparently owlcatz spoke, over the phone, to yogg who said that he found some old key files he hadn't burned and cashed them in to feed his gambling addiction - not only unfunding the cards but also destroying their value as collectibles in the process.   Apparently, not all of the cards are compromised but the trust is gone and many people have peeled their cards to get the funds before they were stolen.

Based on these revelations, I no longer believe the ColdKey hat edition is a wonderful idea.

oh well

Having OG accounts connected to a shipping address (even if it's only a friend's or relative's one) is bad opsec imo.

Don't wanna offend anyone... but reading that story leaves the possibility that "someone" hoped heavy WO OGs would put some nice amounts on these cards in order to wipe them afterwards..

Also the name Coldkey Card is very close to the name of the rather trusted Coldcard device, which also leaves some taste..

Think what you want, but my retarded conspiracy head gets some strange vibes out of that direction

Yep.  I read most of that thread so far and a lot of members affected.  so yes, sad.

It sounds like it is the kind of card that was preloaded, with various themes and supposed scarcity, and would have been more valuable to leave the cards sealed.. so it would not have been the kind of card that anyone would have/or should have added more value to the private addresses, even though the public addresses were able to be watched without unsealing the private keys.. so they had preset amounts that seemed to vary between something like .01 and .001 BTC.. something like that.. but still added up to a whole hell of a lot of value (something like 25 BTC in total) and likely members bought the majority of those with real BTC too.

Of course the preloaded part seems to be part of the problem, too... and in the most recent conversation, Yogg claims that he ONLY stole some of the funds and that he had destroyed the private keys for ALL of the other funds, yet it would be difficult for any reasonable person to actually trust an already admitted degenerate gambler, unless they happen to be a degenerate gambler themselves... so maybe refer our latest degenerate gambler member of this thread, aka "TrustedBitcoiner" to Yogg the admitted degenerate gambler in order that they can both share in their war stories to establish that one level of degenerate gambling just likely tends to continue to cascade DOWNity into worse and worse levels of degenerate gambling.

Regarding ColdKey, the project may look cool and satisfy some coiners' egos or whatever, but from the very beginning it was an idea based on trusting the creator, which is an instant no-no when it comes to Bitcoin. I personally would not trust my keys to anyone (not even my parents or siblings or GF/wife or whoever else). Not because I don't love them or trust them in the general sense. But it is a fact that all of us are human beings and are thus prone to mistakes and weaknesses, which can lead to compromising the security of whatever it is we want to protect.

When it comes to Bitcoin, you keep a low profile, NEVER reveal your keys to ANYONE, never advertise specific amounts or even ownership of any coins, never brag about how rich you are, and never compromise your OPSEC.

There's no need for ColdKeys. The best ColdKey is stored in our neurons, and should stay in there, and stay immaterial. Just like Bitcoin.

exactly

it's seems hard for many to adapt to new paradigms even if they are clearly advantageous

Its true that the entire business model is dependent on trust but there are still some reputable physical cold storage collectible makers like Casascius and Kialara that have never had any such incident. Reputation is the most important thing for anybody who does business in bitcoin, but yeah obviously its not a failsafe hook to hang a customer's hat on.

This event is pretty unprecedented and will definitely set physical collectibles back for a while. Yogg was among the most trusted members of the forum. Sucks all the way around.

I did ask cygan about the keys and who produces them and has access to it.

It was definitely trust based, the creator will create the keys and hide them behind the halo, but not store them anywhere...

Definitely goes against the entire principal of Bitcoin.

What would have been better, we generate and give you the Bitcoin Address to print on the coldkey with our WO Hats.

Sure, i won't be able to trade or sell the coldkey (which is fine, as it is only collectible to me)

It's been 14 years since first transaction of bitcoin took place, 12 January 2009 satoshi send first 50 bitcoins to Hal Finney. Today these 50 bitcoins are worth 902,319 USD.

Hal Finney is no more and I am sure those 50 bitcoins are lost on bitcoin blockchain forever.

RIP HAL FINNEY, thank you for being first ever receipt of bitcoins.

I agree with everything you've wrote, but I disagree if you wouldn't trust anyone with your keys because we're humans, we're not eternal in this world and we don't know when we left this world.

I don't think you would abandon all of your money you've make until right now, there's must be someone need to take over your Bitcoin and continue your journey to hold it.

At least your child need to know your keys, of course after they're matured, know about Bitcoin and already understand about money management.

If you die without giving the keys to anyone, the value of your stash will be distributed among all existing Bitcoiners...
