I know there has been talk about watercooling with the K16's , but has anyone contacted a company for prototyping a waterblock?
If this has been a topic beaten to death, im sorry, just been out of the loop for a few weeks

Danny

I have a water block on the way to me that I think may work. Up to six K16's will fit to it. If it looks workable I will add it to my website as an option.

I also have 4 prototype boards being built by a local pcb manufacturer that I should  have in a few days. I will use them for parts placement testing, solder oven testing, and as mechanical samples for single heat sinks and the water block.

thanks sensei

You have to look harder. I've been able to source all parts but one (and the headers, but those should be easy, right?) since I started searching yesterday. Also some of these are available in different packages, ie cut-tape vs reel.

Digikey is a mess to navigate but they actually shipped first Cheesy
It's like an easter egg hunt right now. The pin headers are still in stock at Maritex in Poland. I know that's a weird place to get them from, especially since they're from China, but they have some. I don't know how easy they are to buy from but they take Paypal so can't be that hard.

PLTD08S-LF does one board, or PLTD40S-CV for many.

If you know how you're going to tile them then only one is really needed per board, but shipping will hurt bad.

I'm sure they can be found at Digikey but there are so many it's hard to dig up the right one. Start here,

http://www.digikey.com/scripts/dksearch/dksus.dll?FV=fff40016%2Cfff802f3%2C1140003%2C1640001%2C1680002%2C8cc0003&mnonly=0&newproducts=0&ColumnSort=1000011&page=1&stock=1&pbfree=0&rohs=0&quantity=&ptm=0&fid=0&pageSize=25

Sorted by price ascending, choose any even length greater than 2 because you can snip them into 2's with cutters. Ridiculous prices of course, but if you can get them from a place you alreay have an order then you save shipping.

Here's a 2x8 one that will yield 4 2x2 in gold for $1.06 (ouch).

I says "min order 3000"

You're looking at the tape and reel package page. Reels have 3000 components on them (in this case), so you have to order in increments of 3000 if you want reels.

There's a different page and DigiKey product number for each type of packaging. A little ways down the page, under the heading "Alternate Package", you'll see links for cut tape, and DigiReel. Here's the link for Cut Tape: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/74AUP2G02DC,125/568-9186-1-ND/2814104

Edit: For those of you having trouble finding parts, I've found http://octopart.com/ incredibly useful.

Definition of Irony:

Everyone has been worrying about getting the ASIC chips in,
or worrying about whether the board is done and whether it hashes.

What is going to end up killing us is the shortage of a friggin $0.38 logic chip.

NOW THAT IS IRONY!!

Oh, yeah. That's the right place. If you're only now looking for components, you're going to have a hard time.

I might have some components left over once I'm done getting people's miners made. I'd be willing to resell at a reasonable price whatever people need if that's the case.

I was able to snatch some parts before but I just stuck with 2 major parts. The 1.2v regulator and the power inductor. The USB controller should be available on the 18 of august or so (hopefully). Do you have any spare of those left?

More like poor planning. I asked Steamboat about this back in May:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=192916.msg2334368#msg2334368

He had his stuff queued up and ready for the incoming rush. I could have bought all sorts of these parts and sold them back to the various builders, but to me that goes against the spirit of the DIY'ers and Bitcoin in general. However, if you didn't see this coming...  Shocked

These two are what I'm missing as well. I have a few emails out to China sellers... in the meantime I'll keep looking.

As for the USB controller, just order them from Bkk's site. They come pre-programmed.

Actually, that might not have been a bad idea. I'm betting that not all of the components that were sold are going onto Klondikes, so you would have effectively been securing components for the community. Of course, price-gouging would certainly not have been in the spirit of things, but selling back the parts at cost plus a small bit for your trouble? That might have actually saved some people here money once opportunity cost due to component shortages is factored in.

Having a look at the 74AUP2G02 data sheet it looks like the SOT996-2 package is very close to the VSSOP8 (SOT765-1) package. For DIY I think you could easily use that part on the same footprint. It's a QFN style pkg, no leads.

Be careful though as there is a variety of similar packages.
This one is the 74AUP2G02GD which Digikey has 2860 in stock, min. 1pc.

I've been trying to keep count. I was going to post that I have both QFN and SS PICs coming to me next week.
I thought I had 84 QFN and 186 SS still available. But then I saw <someone> just ordered 100 boards and PICs.  Wink

So now I have are no more QFN available. I have to get busy again finding more for you!

If someone can find a secret stash of IR3895 then I can make a board that uses the Coilcraft inductor. But without the reg. it doesn't do any good to make a different board.

I already ordered some of the Coilcraft inductor for testing, but they'll be a while.

Yeah, that was me. I tried to choose the one you might have more in stock, thinking that QFN is more difficult to hand solder.

If you need to split my order into 50/50 I sure don't mind so long as the boards/PICs match up. Or just switch the whole thing. No preference.

And to those still needing to source headers.... Ebay Cheesy

Thank You. Splitting 50/50 means you won't be waiting for QFN.

For anyone ordering now, I only have some SS available still. If you order QFN then they may be available later in August or they could be pushed back further. Unless a fresh supply turns up it will be out of my control.

And I created the QFN board because back in June it looked like the SS package would be the problem. Sigh.

And for others thinking of which to order - functionally there's no difference. It was mainly a supply issue to choose one or the other, and for the K1 it's a size issue. Very small board.

I think for stencil / reflow assembly you won't notice any difference in difficulty to assemble. For all the chips you want to place it in the correct spot first time to avoid messing up the paste.
