It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Yeah I tend to agree with that last statement citronik... but one new-ish wrinkle is Electroneum. Right now it is 2x more profitable to mine than XMR...

a note of caution...these are theoretical numbers because ETN is only trading on ONE exchange (Cryptopia or something-never heard about it before) PLUS it is not even fully released yet PLUS the CEO is not a technical guy, who keeps talking about hackers and how they were swooning on him.

Anyway, my biggest beef with etn is that none of the pools are able to stand straight for several days. They keep popping in and out for at least several hours at the time. The french one was out during at least part of the weekend, for example; now I don't see the hashparty, etc, etc.

yes - wasted a whole day of hash yesterday - BTG and ETN while good for miners since its GPU mine-able -- I think they need to get their act together - pools are shiatzs - dont get me started on the wallets.... go download the ETN one on Playstore or Appstore.... its non existent - LOL why launch if there is no official wallet?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.electroneum.app
...

what do you mean no wallet lol?  they have an excellent paper wallet that you create by moving your mouse around then you get a bright and shiny PDF with your #s lol.  Joking of course... I do agree it certainly wasn't a seemless launch but we'll see what happens. I really just wanted to a change up to the $20/day for the last 2 months.  May get burned if ETN blows up but to me the possible upside is worth the minor risk of not mining $20 of XMR per day. Time will tell.

Yeah, I did the paper wallet PDF thing and also another ETN address from Coinomi.... but after reading more on ETN, their crown jewels is the mobile wallet, mobile mining etc.... but dang the product is not even out yet. And yet mining has started? Something is amiss here.
Just use the one on github: https://github.com/electroneum/electroneum/releases
Old skool console-based daemon + wallet, but works like a charm.

pool.electroneum.space still working as it should this morning, been accumulating coins nicely since last night.

@nsummy: have you tried cpu-mining from that wallet? It definitely puts my CPU to work when I use the command start_mining, but I haven't yet figured out how to have it display the hashrate...

Just got the Colorful board with no Colorful "markings"...

It looks like this board needs to have a CPU 4pin and the source for that power comes from the server PSU but via one of the Power-Out (POUTS) at the other side of the motherboard.

I am assuming, I have to get a long 4pin CPU EPS type cable, male to male.

Comments anyone?

I thought that was power for the fans initially, and a 4 pin cpu male is required from a pico psu.

And also it's weird design, why does a mobo need to be connected to itself with cables lol. Why can't some power from the bunch of 6 pins go directly to cpu via the mobo traces?

Good luck, I'm most interested in this board due to it's compact size compared to the larger one phil has. Will be following your progress.

I switched everything back to xzc. Difficulty dropped a little and less heat is always good. I've heard good things about BTX, but it requires a private miner.

Apparently the miner is on google?
Risky to try it, but seems a few others think it's worth it.

It's worth it, but my farm is overseas. In the rare chance of a virus I can't re-install windows remotely. Hence sticking with the "safe play". In any case the profits should even out in a few days.

Flying back there over the new year to look into a larger warehouse for my rigs. My shoplot won't have capacity for 2018 expansion. It can do 35KW, but it's really hot inside even with just 20KW of gear running. Gonna find warehouse where I can install huge fans like these: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/2017-Industrial-Factory-Greenhouse-Ventilation-Exhaust_60642887821.html

My group has about 496 x Asics at Cryptoboreas and Great North Data, both in Canada.

However... this place in Japan is closer to home. I like this idea...

http://www.ibtimes.com/japanese-city-offers-bitcoin-miners-eco-friendly-deal-2612200

The Japanese city of Kazuno is inviting bitcoin companies, including Tokyo-based Miner Garage Co. Ltd., to use local renewable energy sources such as geothermal, hydroelectric and wind power. This sparsely populated mountain town is best known for its hot springs and geothermal energy plants. Now it hopes to combine this electricity source with its chilly climate to offer a sustainable solution for cryptocurrency mining. Renewable energy sources will power mining machines while the snowy climate naturally cools equipment.

It boils down to cost. I'm from Hong Kong and Japan's a little closer compared to my farm in Malaysia. If they offer 3 cents electricity, cheap rent and reasonable hardware prices, sure. I like Japan anyways. But for now, I'm not altruistic enough to care whether the electricity comes from renewable sources or not.

@philipma1957

How loud are your factory watercooled setups, could you compare these? You have evga and msi or?

Could you adjust fan rpm and watercooling fan rpm? Pump also?

When tuned for effiency, living room possible?

both msi and evga

Maybe  maybe not

  did you look at my you tube video's

the sound is accurate.  compare the noise to the asic  in the newer video  the asic is really loud

Thanks!!

@citronick took your advice and stood on NH, after the BTG crazy hours everything switched to NH cryptonite. It was much safer than pool mining, right now 6x580 do 12$ and 6x1060 do ~8$.
The 1060 rigs are switching to equihash.

I got one of these boards on the way too.  Should be here early next week.  I will be powering it with a Delta 2400W.

I figured I'd start by connecting all the 6 pin IN connectors to the Delta, then see if it will post with some crappy $25 GT 720 GPU I got laying around.  If not, I'll check for 12V on the 4 pin OUT connector, and if I see it, make a cable to feed the 4 pin IN connector by the CPU.  If it still won't post at this point, I'm not sure what the next step would be.

Also, on all those 6 pin OUT connectors for the GPU's, is there a reason to use those instead of just feeding the GPU's directly from the Delta?  If I was to run 1080Ti's with dual 8 pin connectors, I would definitely want to feed them directly from the PSU and not via Y cables from the mobo!

I have asked the seller - what cable would this be and is it provided, seems to be a standard EPS type CPU 4pin MALE to MALE.
I have 10 x Deltas ready for the 8-slot project, and will basically upgrade, consolidate each rig to 8 GPUs and get rid off all risers for 10 rigs in the old ETH farm.
Worst case scenario, no choice but to jiggy-rig a cable to do this off the Delta. I think only 2 pins is required.... but would leave that to experts.
I would like to buy some from you if manage to figure it out. Otherwise, hawkfish can help..... hawk are you there?

@fgm
Yeah for now, just park at NH to reduce risk, I have seen +0.01919740 BTG payment on Coinomi wallet, eventhough I have 11 BTG in Suprnova (still waiting confirmation).
I am growing suspicious everyday about this BTG.... I think the BTG network doesn't have enough hash to keep up.
Once state of pools settles down, BTG mining should be profitable - IMHO.
Btw, NH is not a mining pool, per se.
NH is a buyer/seller marketplace.
We sell hash, and they are buyers out there that will buy our hash.
What they eventually use our hash to mine.... we would not know what coin.
I am sure many of us here who followed my strategy made some nice profit.
I think for now, just mine something else or sell hash at NH.

@phil,
the 2 x D1800s I sent to you earlier, I think my office used a router box to send to you - I guess you can use that size of a box.
Shipping in the US - do you need to use only boxes provided by USPS?

Phil & Co,

Been following this thread for awhile, thank you all for your knowledge and insight.  I just setup my first "trio" mining rig (2x 1080 TI's & 1x 1070 Mini) about a week ago, and so far so good.  I am noticing one potential issue though, one of my 1080's seems to be really struggling compared to the other 2 cards.  What's weird, is even my 1070 Mini is producing considerably more Sol/W while using less power than the bad 1080. Something seems off there.... not too mention just comparing the 2 exact same 1080 cards, one is clearly outperforming the other.  I took photos on 4 separate days, so this has been ongoing, not just a bad hour or two.  See link below for photos of the GPU stats running on nvOC_19.

The 1080 that is struggling, is the same card I have the monitor plugged into.  Could that be the reason why?  Or is it a bad card? Or, maybe this is normal?  Any help would be a huge help, thank you!

FYI: GPU0 - 1080 TI, GPU1 - 1070 Mini, GPU2 - 1080 TI  (GPU0 & GPU2 are the exact same 1080 TI make/model)

whatre your power limits at?

in that position the board recognizes  0 TI 1 Mini 2 TI so PL could be 200/125/200 as a base reference

individual power limit = yes
0 = 200
1 = 125
2 = 200
