Have you ever seen a mining equipment manufacturer company NOT take preorders on an upcoming product?

Yes  panda miner sent me a 8 gpu unit after failing to get preorders.

AFTER I reviewed it they  sold a lot of them.

the next model i did not use them or review them as they said some lies.

they still sold out the second model

So that is a company that was unable to get any preorders done and after my review they sold 100's of units.

I have 0 need for this asic miner

I have some now  from bitmain and I will be adding more in the future.

My main thrust in mining is and most likely will remain gpu mining.

To any new Asic company such as dragon mint many of us say fuck asics and build gpu rigs.

with 2 and 3 year warranties and fast delivery of gpus from amazon best buy newegg etc.

While I would like to review this unit and most likely I won't

I simply do not care about the gear from a miners viewpoint.

My concern is that of a watchdog trying to help people not do preorders from unknown companies and venders of unproven gear.

I wish you had the gear and I wish the thread was not started until your company was close to shipping.

I wish you simply released a few to members on this forum that mine and review.

Instead  you were nasty and insulting.

So  the gear comes out I buy 5 one breaks   what will my rma be like?

Fuck you blow me bitch comes to mind.

Maybe another variation will happen  oh yes send it in we will fix it.  then zip nada nothing.

Meanwhile I earn decent money with my gpus and no longer spend much time here in the sha 256 section of the forum .

I have run 7 threads  on gpus for about 2 years with more then 300 pages and 1 million views  so I really don't care about owning this gear.

I do care that someone sends payment for 5 units and gets zero in return.

I live in the midwest United States and asked Scott to meet me which he has agreed to.

I will visit Wisconsin late next week to see things with my own eyes. No pictures or videos will be taken so everyone will just have to go by my word of what I see.

stay tuned

Okay lets see @elokk, hopefully you will be gentle with it like first time with woman, and inspect every aspect of that, since we won't see anything visually dont forget to bring pen and paper(or use phone Cheesy ) to write any info that you see/check, or just confirm Watmeter picture. Wish you all the luck

Honestly, I am going to satisfy my own curiosity

Figured I would share with the forum and hopefully can report back it does exist for the naysayers. Of course this will not guarantee anything other than some test units may exist and I won't be allowed to share any juicy details. We will have to wait for some hands on demos within the community to get all the interesting stuff.

Just for the sake of my curiosity please, connect it to Nicehash pool, and look at the dashboard, since from few pools that i used(yea i know NH is not pool), NH dashboard shows rather more correct THs then some others. My question would be: "Does it show 16 THs?" Yes/No

Thanks in advance!

Good  you have been around for a while. NJ to Wisconsin is too far for me and I am too busy with gpus.
to chase this.

To any asic builder  many of us don't use you and no longer care about your gear.
I preach inclusive of multiple mining gear and coins.  but  preorders and  statements like fuck you junkies won't cut it.

I screen shot my locked 6 threads on gpu mining of non sha-256 coins

those threads exist simply because of asic builders and their sale methods and shit rma methods.

And a lot of people made a lot of money following those threads.

Crypto-coin mining can exist with zero asic coins so to all sha-256 asic builders  gpus become bigger due to your sales techniques and your service contracts.

I would:
- Connect to pool for a couple of hours and capture the hashrate. Slush would work, any known pool
- Measure power use
If you get the right results it means there actually exists a machine with the advertised specs (nothing else is proved at this point)

Probably you won't be allowed, but next thing I'll do is open up this tihng and try to evaluate:
- Are the hashing boards too familiar (i.e. are these just S9 hashing boards with the luckiest ASIC chips pushed to this perf?)
- Count the number of chips, identify the other visible components (pulling a heatsink is obviously not an option unless you knock Scott out or get him really drunk Smiley)
If you find uniquely designed boards, still are the power and hashrate per chip unique regarding existing chips? (i.e. bitfury)?
It may or may not be possible to actually prove this thing has newly designed unique chips inside it.

At the end of the day, unless it's entirely obvious that the chips themselves are unique, a working unit doesn't prove that much. But let's say they do have new chips, proving the multi-million investment, you still would need to ask yourself:
Can they actually produce in the promised volume?
What will be the failure rate of the units (terrible like bitmain, or 10 times worse?)
Will they honor any warranty?
Will you receive the unit on time? 1 month late? 1 year late?

So risk is still huge, quite a gamble to buy this.

Scott - I've reached out to you via text from my local number. I'm about 25 minutes from you and would love to meet up with you.

I've preordered tons of miners in the past -- from the first Avalon batch, theKNC Jupiters, to the most recent batches of S9s. Would love to see what Halong has in store!

DragonMint has farm-raised canned unicorn meat for sale.  MOQ is 1000 units.  That'd put a hell of a dent in 10M.

The thing is if one connects some S9 looking machine to a pool worker, and the rate becomes 16TH, it could easily be 2 machines doing it and not 1.

All the fellow has to do is connect 1 machine in front of u and send an SMS to a fren to acrivate another machine on the same worker. It is easy to do..

Basically, wat was done in that Slushpool office in that video can be replicated easily infront of u. Simple slide of hand or sorts. Not even difficult. In the halong utube vid, there was a screen showin 4TH being hashed for a few secs. Slushpool showed 16th. It is possible rhat it was 4th + 12th equals 16th here.

So, u should set up your own worker with a complex name and ask him to connect to it and make sure he does not contact anyone once he has seen that worker nane. Otherwise, it can juz be a simple slide of hand trick infront of u. Or perhaps some other way that can detect how many machines are on that worker. Nicehash shows such info??

I hope offordscott understands the concerns

Just my 2 cents

Selling 100 dollar coupons (8units expire 11th June, 14 units expire 1st july) and 125 dollar coupon (2 unit exp 30th June). Selling at 20% of value

Oh yeah! For me it's too much risk to even buy 1 unit (and they don't sell at that small scale). Why do it if I can just buy S9s? Crappy, but known territory. And I'm also with you regarding how much better GPU rigs are. I just try to diversify as much as I can so I throw some ASICs into the mix, but what a painful experience.

I understand that concern about the possibility of spoofing slushpool.

I would certainly be willing for elokk to type some random work name into my slush pool account and then change the worker name accordingly on the miner config page.

I hope offordscott understands the concerns

I think they actually own the gear  and it really exsists.
I think  they believe  this gives them hand  since it really does save power and is the best gear on the market.

My problem is they simply do not understand  that the best hash per watt  does not give them the hand they think they have.
But WTF do I know  I am a middle sized player.

Shame  on them  as I am a good source of publicity for them.
and basically it is a free deal since I will pay for the gear once it arrives.
who believes I would not pay them if they sent it?

I agree you on that Phil.

They don't give appreciation and value for the review made by one of us.

It's basicly free advertising in the case we pay for the miner.

The money they would earn by showing up the miner would be a greater amount
than the money they think they save by hiding it in the closet.

Halong does not need help with advertising. I personally appreciate your commitment to this community and to your history of making reviews for the public, however, Halong does not need the positive PR. Like I said, if I had it my way, I would send every 4.5-5 user on this entire forum a unit to test for free. But, it’s not my call to make.

So is it "fuck the customers, we don't care about what they think about us" ?  Huh

How do we suppose trust then that the warranty repairs or anything else would be respected?

I would really like if Halong would go more along your path Scott, instead of what they are doing at the moment.
