Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin

I'm not saying that it is impossible, but what I think is that it will not happen soon. Bitcoin is still the leading cryptocurrency and is still increasing its value very rapidly hence I think that it will remain on top for quite some time.

Indeed, the probability of Ethereum overtaking Bitcoin is low though it is possible but it will takes time. Bitcoin is the most popular and yes leading cryptocurrency exists, and in order to overtake it, you must not only be popular but also to be as profitable as Bitcoin. In this way, Ethereum can also be a leading cryptocurrency sooner or later.

I have serious doubts, as the major of people who replied to this thread, that ETH ever surpass bitcoin.
Yet some other currency which would be adopted most of population, with low fees, fast transactions huge coin cap, could replace it in the future

That is impossible ethereum is not gonna overtake bitcoin. Bitcoin is still moving forward and much faster in improving unlike ethereum,its moving up but not a fast at bitcoin.

For me, ethereum cannot beat bitcoin because bitcoin is the mainstream in the world of cryptocurrency.
And also, the value of ehetereum is way farther than the value of Bitcoin.
It takes a really big work to do for ethereum to beat bitcoin in the future.

I think the fundamental differences between ETH and BTC in terms of usage now is that Ether is actually still focused on its main function which is as a means of payment/transaction, where as Bitcoin is almost certainly now popularly used a store of value more than anything else.
Smart contracts + low  transaction fees and time make Ethereum very attractive.  However, regardless of these differences, i don't see ETH or any other coin surpassing bitcoin.  It seems to me that bitcoin will continue to be the standard bearer for crypto's.

I suppose in terms of capitalization, there may well be one or another coin that will surpass or at least give bitcoin a good battle for the top spot, but in terms value per coin, bitcoin won't be surpassed.

Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency in the world. Etherum, Litecoin and many other coin invented as the act of bitcoin.  Bitcoin is now using in whole over world.  Day by day the using of it become increasing vastly. Its etherum which is walking on the same way.  But never forget bitcoin is not sitting down when the ehereum is running.  So that I think its never be possible to overtake bitcoin. Most of ethereum's rise this year was because it turned into an ICO lottery machine.

It'll have to earn it's keep with more useful stuff next year.

No it will be wrong to say that ethereum will overtake bitcoin. bitcoin is very stable and of higher cost than ethereum. according to current statistics ethereum would never overtake the bitcoin.

I dont think ethereum can replace bitcoin because as a digital cryptocurrency bitcoin will be always known and be the first in all cryptocurrency . Ethereum is also showing great potential but it can never take place in bitcoin.

Hampered? Do you even know that many of these solid projects under Ethereum is making the network stronger? Gnosis, Wings, Golem, Bancor amd many many more.

So far, ETH has been very stable and less volatile which is good for long term holders. It may not become as hyped or used as Bitcoin, but it is a very good coin to park your money.

As much as we want it to happen, unfortunately, BTC will always be on top. It may dipped many times in 2017, but still, it rose, and continuously growing. That'll continue this 2018, so expect Eth to always be in second place.

Tick tock. you are only focusing on bitcoin and ethereum while there is altcoin that is not so well-regarded and is now side by side with bitcoin on the Coinmarketcap board. Maybe Ethereum has increased at the end of this year, and indeed almost all altcoin experience the same thing. This is triggered by a very significant increase in Bitcoin despite declining until the end of this year.

Back to topic, I think Ethereum needs to try to get back to its position right from the start after its market cap position has been $ 20B under Ripple.

Perhaps someday that would be happen but not at this moment, it can be a way ticket in the project ico to become the bridge to maek all participants will be rewarded at the end of the end of the ico campaign.

Doubt that. IMO Cardano will overtake Ethereum which will end on 3rd place in 2018.
