In the next year ETH will overtake BTC as the number 1 cryptocurrency.  I would unload your bitcoin while you still can.

In terms of ICO investments ethereum leads as a mode of payment and investment. But in terms of trading in market and converting cryptocurrency into a Fiat currency bitcoin is the still front runner. Bitcoin would still lead Ethereum for a long time but we can't close the possibilities of that event to happen in the future.

Ethereum is way too behind bitcoin so there are very less chance to overtake bitcoin. In future Ethereum will definitely grow but can overtake bitcoin or not that still remains a question. Bitcoin's value is too above Ethereum and it was from the beginning. Still no one can be so much sure about the future because Ethereum is also a very potential coin with a very good technology.

This opinion expressed as regards ethereum is highly contestable! How on earth would ethereum surpassed bitcoin with bitcoin worldwide distribution, popularity and adoption. There is no doubt about ether continious development, but it replacing bitcoin is just a fallacy.

Wall Street is looking at the Ethereum platform:

https://cointelegraph.com/news/the-ethereumization-of-wall-street-is-inevitable-expert-take

Quote
The Ethereumization Of Wall Street Is Inevitable

The mainstream media has become obsessed with the crypto frenzy with the main focus on Bitcoin price. By treating cryptocurrencies like any other asset class or just as a fad, journalists are missing the elephant in the room: investment banks are about to be disrupted big time.

These days it is much easier to raise funds through an ICO than through traditional venture capital funds. As a result, there are already more than 1,500 cryptocurrencies out there. Just a few years ago, it would have been unthinkable for a small company with just a handful of employees to raise millions of dollars on the back of a simple white paper. Now, startups can do it with just an exciting concept and a white paper of a few dozen pages (sometimes less). Thanks to the ERC20 standard that uses the existing Ethereum Blockchain, anyone can launch a token at a limited cost without having to worry about building a Blockchain infrastructure from scratch.

Obviously,  Ethereum can be taken by another, more advanced platform. But for now, it makes more than 80 percent of the market. Out of the 580 tokens out there, 475 are on the Ethereum Blockchain.

The genius of the Ethereum Blockchain was making fundraising so incredibly easy: all you have to do is create a smart contract to do an ICO. Every time ETH (Ethereum tokens) are sent to the contract address, the contract issues newly minted tokens that are automatically sent back to the sender. Wall Street should be terrified because Ethereum has just made investment banks redundant.

Book building (the process of lining up investors to buy security to be issued) has historically been very juicy for Wall Street, and investment banks acted as intermediaries between asset managers and companies or governments wishing to raise debt (bond offerings) or equity (IPOs). Until recently there was no way to bypass them. Now there is. Banks have not started feeling the pain yet, but venture capitalists have. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to see them in the list of pre-ICO investors (see the upcoming Telegram ICO). VCs have to adapt or be history, and Wall Street is next.

I think differently from all of you guys, ETH is currently stronger than any other major crypto currencies, having a steady rise while bitcoin is very volatile.

With regard to a possible bullish scenario, the maximum at 1424 usd,  tested at the beginning of January is only a short-term resistance and may, as soon as the market stabilizes, test a new maximum again, and go further than 2,000 usd.

ETH could become the most valuable cryptocurrency and overcome bitcoin and bitcoin cash just in 2-3 years.

I don't agree with you. Ethereum is very strong, but I think it is not capable of defeating bitcoin yet. Not now. Not next year. Later.

I have been hearing this from so many people nowaday. it is possible why not? One day if bitcoin startss to loose power ethereum will be the strongest altcoin to dominate the crypto market instead of bitcoin.

You are very sceptic. I predict most newcomers in the second half of 2018 will learn about crypto by usind a Dapp - they will not be speculators but users. They will use Dapps and only as a second step learn about the tech that drives it. Since most of Dapps in 2018 will run on Ethereum it is likely that it will be the most talked about tech.

Like a the ethereum. But bitcoin will remain the main coin despite obvious shortcomings because so many people believe in it and because it was the first crypto currency.

I don't think that Etherium will ever overtake Bitcoin. Ethereum has a lot of potential because it is the platform of most of the ICOs, on the other hand, Bitcoin have proven it's worth as the leading crypto, it is known and used all around the world.

I really think that Ethereum cannot replace yet Bitcoin in its position as the leading crypto currency in the crypto world because no matter what happen Bitcoin has the most users and has the most investors compared to any crypto currency out there and not to mention that Bitcoin is the most trusted name in the world of crypto currency. Bitcoin has been there since crypto world has existed and I'm sure Bitcoin will always be there even after crypto world will disappear.

Probably it will as what ethereum advisors and developers improving ethereum in today and in the furture. Providing the investors a security to make it happen. Going to succeed. Good for ethereum will start this year. Just a big change is coming for a big impact to crypto world. Cheer for ethereum.

I think that Etherium will not be able to overcome Bitcoin, because Bitcoin has proved to be as valuable as the leading crypto, it's known and used all over the world and I'm sure Bitcoin will always exist even after when the coding world disappears.

Your prediction is very deviated from the facts that exist, currently bitcoin still rule the price in marketcap. Although Ethereum has good features but it is still very difficult to shift the dominance of bitcoin because currently bitcoin is still the most popular compared to other crypto.

I see that on the background of a deep correction the broadcast did not fall as much as bitcoin. I think that this year it has all chances to outrun bitcoin in the price even for a while.

Seems in this time  it looks actually like that...it's exactly the 10% of bitcoin value.

Ethereum’s platform is very great and the price is already pumping but I’m not considering that Ethereum will take over bitcoin in the next year. Ethereum is just behind Bitcoin when it comes to market cap and a lot of crypto is based on its platform will see what will happen it the near future. There’s a possibility that companies and countries will accept ethereum over bitcoin.
