So with this merit system what is the expected time to get to legendary?
With one liners? Probably 5 billion years...

So with this merit system what is the expected time to get to legendary? Just to make it completely obvious .. may I have some merits? I seem to need alot to get to the next level.
Begging for merits is not the way to go. If demerits were added, you'd probably get those instead. It's currently hard to tell how long it will take, but if you contribute, and not spam, it wouldn't be unreasonable to get 1000 merits in over 2 years. I think the expected time for Legendary is the more or less the same.

The intention here is to reduce spam and promote high quality content that others will enjoy and therefore give merit to. However, we're in cryptoland, so let's talk economic incentives.
Merit is valuable for 'leveling up'. A higher rank in this forum is valuable both indirectly (respect of the community, standing among peers) and directly (bounties that reward you for being a higher ranked member, such as signature bounty). If it is valuable, there will be a market for it. This might defeat the purpose of the system, which is aimed to improve quality.
First, I think theymos should clarify whether it is against the forum rules to 'sell' merit or not. It should be. At the very least, it will discourage the more honest members, who don't want their account banned due to violation of the rules.
Second, the forum should institute a rule against threads and posts selling or asking for Merit. This would be similar to the spamming/begging rules. This should cut down on some of the more blatant trading of Merit that will invariably take place.
Third, there should (personal opinion) be a fairer distribution of initial Merit than just the current forum level. Seems unfair otherwise, since there is a huge variation already just within a forum level. Perhaps a combination of current activity, time on the forum, how long the account has been in the current level, and other relevant variables.
I think Merit can be a step in the right direction for this forum.

Transition from Member to full member will be very hard to reach Most of the members will be active just to reach their rank ups. But, is it best if the TRUSTED signature campaign managers will be having a greatest number of merit points to be given to TRUSTED poster since they are checking also the quality of post in each applicant? Just to add an opinion, because this can also help the managers on selecting their applicants even without checking their post. So with this merit system what is the expected time to get to legendary?
It will still depend on the quality of your post mate. It would really enumerate the post from reports from a bounty campaigns like twitter and facebook.

The distribution of merit was only to provide the absolute minimum for people to have the rank that they currently have. Since merit isn't actually used for anything than determining that, I think this is fine. What matters more is the distribution of sMerit, the stuff that people actually give away. For that, the formula was based on both rank and activity in the past year.

First, I think theymos should clarify whether it is against the forum rules to 'sell' merit or not. It should be.
For me (and other sources), it is. My merit page reads "You are a merit source. The next XXX merit you spend will come from your source rather than your sMerit balance. Merit spent from your source will come back in 30 days. Unused source merit is wasted. It is not allowed for merit sources to sell their merit."As sources are the only permanent holder of sMerit (they regain their limit every 30 days), this generally disallows the sale of Merit on a long term perspective.
Why not make Merit and sMerit crypto tokens?
Because this isnt ERC20talk.org We dont have trust and negtrust tokens either. And that's fine.

To be honest I don't really want to post anything. I just want to lurk around and choose my participation on my own and I have been around bitcoin for a long time yet my rank is "only" member. The requirements of bitcointalk and signature campaigns force many people ,including myself, to make really dumb ass posts. The entire system of "activity" and "merits" actually creates the very thing it tries to prevent because it creates an incentive for people to create signature campaigns around ranks which require posts, including shit-posts, to participate in.

Why not make Merit and sMerit crypto tokens?
It's pointless, over complicated, doesn't need to have the properties of a token, and should be free to give, and not cost gas or whatever the fee is called for other chains with tokens. To be honest I don't really want to post anything. I just want to lurk around and choose my participation on my own and I have been around bitcoin for a long time yet my rank is "only" member. Then don't post. Rank doesn't matter if you just lurk. Better than the countless one liners you have in your past history.

Also I foresee how users who know each others from long time will distribute merits among themselves even without proper well written posts. (I didn't read the rules accurately so maybe this is not possibile)
I hope this system will work out, but when you give power to users, it's a risk, there is always someone who will try to take advantage by cheat the system.
The limits that are in place seem pretty solid for combating this sort of in-grouping; that being said almost all of the users that have known each-other a long time are already legendary and therefore have no incentive to hoard merit points among themselves in order to rank up. Right now the system is being cheated and taken advantage of by users spamming around nonsense; they are ruining the forum for everyone else. This is, in part, a counter-measure against that; of course it will come with it's own problems, but as long as it remains a net-positive then we are in business. I thought of unlimited as a source that will go on producing sMerit. Yes, it is limited ... but it will never dry out. Now, most of the merit point will go of course to the oldest and wisest members on the forum (as it is normal) , so how much of it could go to new accounts? Probably 1-5%. Those points might get too valuable But already Lutpin addressed the issue: I think the amount of merit sources is supposed to increase over time. I suppose it is unlimited if we were able to stick around forever, but we have a finite time to live so effectively there is still a limit on the distribution; I see your point, though. I do not see a problem with the majority of the points going to the best contributors, based on their merit, do you? I do not think new accounts contribute much more than 5% of the wisdom, nuance, creativity or information around here. Should an uninformed spammer be a Hero member? The points are meant to be valuable, but yes there will be fluctuation in the sources/amount created in order to maintain a happy medium. I expect merit to tend toward scarcity as time goes on, but when it gets too scarce, I'll have to add more merit sources or give the existing sources more free sMerit. The goal will be to avoid people from feeling like getting merit is virtually impossible, but also to avoid a scenario where everyone is always maxing out the limits because 1 merit is ~worthless.
Each source has a different limit per 30 days. up to 8125 merit could be created per month.
So with this merit system what is the expected time to get to legendary?
You're missing the point; there is no longer an "expected" time, just by going through the motions and taking advantage of the system. You will never make it without merit-earning posts.

'sell' merit will be happen. this is what we should monitoring. people can make telegram channel for buy/sell merit, or other channel for this. if sMerit not tradeable, you should delete and banned all account that made the thread, but you can control them in other forum such as telegram and slack

No. If their account is in full member then it is on full member. The thing is (if you read the previous post in this thread and you can find the answer in pages 1 and 2) it would be tricky to rank their account up especially when they only post garbage.

Woach, that is some new exciting rules on the forum. Meaning it is harder to become a higher rank on the forum, what is good and challenging. Let's try use Merit as it supposed to be used

I'm trying to read through the eleven pages of posts that have occurred in the last almost four hours, but in case it hasn't already been suggested, Merits are only given on new posts, not pre-today.

Merits, for me, is like a sacred thing. Merits should be earned and not bought or traded, like it were just some kind of commodity. So it must only be given or done to the worthy recipient whose posts are objective and of quality postings.

Hi, I’m newbie and start forum life in local ( Russian tear), try no spam, give some useful links for good youtube channels to another users etc. But I never get merit (yes I wanna higher rank )) ) from forum participants – because merit system assumes what - members, f.members , s. members and hero is more advantageous to negotiate and give merits to each other for boosting accounts. Remained legends they are mostly trade merits for people who need it because it will be in demand from users. Question: you do not think that system is not friendly for a new users (not spamer not farmer) and slow down the progress . Yes I newbie in crypto and want get some money, yes 3 world country and blablabla but I want to get lure and give something good for crypto community, but this system depressing me.
Sorry for poor English
