Have you heard of negative SEO? What if person A leaves 50 merits or so on a short post of person B using account of person C to get some negative trust for him. Person C will get punished without any fault.
I'm talking about clear cases of buying/selling merit. This sounds more like abusing the merit system with alternative accounts, which is a whole other issue.

I'll ignore beggars (and maybe leave a neutral trust rating) and I'll give a negative trust rating to anyone that is buying or selling merit (since they are not trustworthy IMO). I'm not sure what other members will do, but this will be my approach.
I have updated my lending rules to warn that even asking about trading leads to negative trust. Hopefully this will quell the oncoming queries about Merit as collateral.

I thought I have read clearly that only quality posts should be given merits, why am I seeing 1-2 liner post that have been merited.
Length != Quality Sometimes the ability to convey a point concisely is far more important than an essay that fails to deliver any meaning. Merit is in the eye of the beholder, I'm sure the sources will each have a slightly different interpretation as to what that is. In my eyes making a positive contribution to the forum and Bitcoin community is equally important as technical knowledge. "Merit is in the eye of the beholder" Damn! This is the most beautiful thing I read today. Am in total agreement with the above post...... i see many talks in the past few pages emphasizing on quality/good..... is there a criteria to determine which post is considered quality or good enough to attract sMerit from forum members? I don't think there is........ rather a post can be consider good and helpful regardless of its quantity ot length as long as it convey a message good enough for the receiver. I believe in heating the nail on the head rather than beating around the bush.

I think this system will lead to a new type of spam. Merit begging and scammers will find a way to monetize by searching for the beggars... IMHO

I'm not sure what other members will do, but this will be my approach. This thread is getting long, but thats exactly what i said. We have some dedicated Legendary members who are doing their best to keep this forum good by giving trust ratings to spammers etc. And there is no reason they wont continiue to do it with merit abuse Edit: And to thoose worried about ranking up. Members is quite easy to get at least. And ive already gotten 4 merit. I think (hope) i write decent posts, but i am by far one of the better ones on bitcointalk. So it is possible if you just do your best

well, there should also be a rule against merit beggers then... since i think, that there will be a lot of new threads for begging merits "sir please, give me and my family merit " .... damn, i need 150merit in 4 weeks now T_T"

As a support to the new merit system, I would ask signature campaign managers to add extra merit members to be added to their campaign.
One of the condition to join the signature campaign to be
Hero members with more than 700 or 800 merits will be able to participate in this campaign.

I don't know why the Admin even grant the idea of having alts account in the first place........ this is just given room to unending issues, what is the need for alts account that your main account can't not serve? If you want to sanitize the system, then do it right allowing alt accounts is probably due to the fact, that people want to earn tokens/coins by joining different signature bounties. for some folks, thats an undeniable source of monthly income.

According to the new rank requirements, Full Member needs 120 activity and 150 merit to get next rank, 240 and 250 for Hero Members respectively. I doubt here is enough amount of Full Members and Hero Members with ratio >1 merit for post. Most of posts have 0 merit, so why do we need activity requirements? If user have merit, he proves his usefulness for forum, but doesn't deserve upgrade if doesn't meet post requirements. I thought those changes were made for quality>quantity reasons, but quantity requirements remains the same. Members will not be able to collect 1 merit per post in average, and I didn't even consider merit decrease (right now every Member+ account has merit, and only merit sourses will get merit month to month).

They reached these levels much more easier than the current users. It's truly unfair.
Nothing is fair in life. Don't try to look at others and compare yours. We'll never get anywhere with that attitude. Of course they have advantages since they were here long before us. Let them enjoy their benefit of being here earlier than us. Let us just accept it and try this new system. I find it hard and still a long way for me to upgrade but I'm not losing hope and if this is for the best I guess this will all be worth it.

This is not true. You can get multiple merits for a single post. Members here have got about 50 in total for a single thread from different members.

+50 Merit theymos love this feature and I know it will certainly add to the experience on this great platform for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency enthusiasts. I am going to look at my background and see if I could become a source.

it's impossible to rank for low rang member
in two weeks i was going full member now i have 11 merit and needs 100 for that... so i will have to wait how many time? 1 year?
why merit give was not proportional to the progress in the rank?
if i'm at 90% of the next level why i have'nt 90 merit (next level is 100) instead of only 10 ?

I'm calling it a night, but I thought it'd be nice to share a merit joke with everyone before leaving, just to make some of you smile. . A man appears before St. Peter at the pearly gates. 'Have you ever done anything of particular merit?' St. Peter asks. Well, I can think of one thing, the man offers. Once, on a trip to the Black Hills, out in South Dakota, I came upon a gang of high-testosterone bikers who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen. So I approached the largest and most heavily tattooed biker. I smacked him on the head, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring and threw it on the ground, and told him, Leave her alone now or you'll answer to me. St. Peter was impressed. When did this happen? Just a couple of minutes ago.
