The best setup is to have 2 machines:

Machine A: Holds 1000DRK, runs as masternode. Use configuration option -masternodeaddr=machineB
Machine B: Holds 0DRK, runs as masternode.

There's no target.

Interesting.

I already like what darkcoin will do for the evolution of more secure methods of money transmission.

Excellent work, sir!

I wonder how Eduffield is doing today  Cool

Whenever I think of Evan, and he's been silent, I picture him with his nose glued to the screen, manically typing code, oblivious to the world around him, LOL.

But it's Friday, so it's more likely that he's partying with his buddies, and having a beer, LOL.

Then again... last time we hadn't heard from him all weekend, that Monday, he put out a big Beta, or was it RC1?

That's funny, I picture him sipping a glass of Drambuie and dictating code into the Starship Enterprise main computer....

LOL, I'm actually picturing Linus from the peanuts cartoons (like when he's playing piano), so Me=old, you=geek Wink  LOL (I'd rather be you!!!)

Ha! It was Schroeder that plays the piano! Tongue

Follow some simple rules:
1. Make a backup of your wallet!!!
2. Encrypt your wallet with a proper password!!!
3. If you have to restart your wallet because of any reason, and you have to write your password again, first re-install your server image just in case someone hacked in and left a keylogger (just being paranoid).

If you follow these basic instructions even if someone hacks into your server they won't get your coins, "stupid proof".

This logically means I would need two static IPs, right?

If you know what you are doing it's not that dangerous. Block all ports besides Dark and ssh, limit ssh to one IP, encrypt your wallet.

Damn, I know what I am talking about,... that's why I would never underestimate it and take it lightly.

Securing a server is the hardest thing to do these days.

Especially if it is CLEARLY deducible for every hacker what your server does and how much value it holds!
That's like asking to be raped.

Yes it does seem masternodes will be a big target for hacking... Also it does seem kind of funny, setting up a big anonymous network, and running servers from Amazon - why not let google do it  Tongue

How does the network know about Machine A?
IP of Machine A has to also be communicated to the whole network? Or only IP of machine B?

I would only consider a machine secure if the network somehow does not even know it exists.

Ah you darkcoin lovers pls post less! Took me a time to read up all the posts of today.  Tongue

- added line to darkcoin.conf: connect=23.23.186.131

Halp?

from what I figured out this is wrong.

You have to use addnode=23.23.186.131
and not connect

There was a quick change mentioned in a beta or rc1 release note but no word or correction in the official guide.

I am not sure why the dev keeps the whole process a bit confusing.  For example there was also no word or response for a long time whether you can or can not setup such a masternode with windows.  But the answer is: You can.

I also still have some unsolved issues but I dont bother to ask anymore.

That's very interesting to know for me too.

Can you elaborate a bit more?

Is it like this: Machine B is on a static public IP of the internet and Machien A is on a static local net internal IP?

And LTC dropping although BTC is on the rise. Miners are catching on to X11. Most must be moving out of LTC into DRK, along with their hash power, just like I did. There is a significant dip in the LTC hash rate, just at the same time as the new Gridseed 5,2MH blades are starting to arrive. Its a hashing dump&pump, without any intrinsic value to the coin, quite on the contrary

Except, obviously, ASIC buyers. Insane are the debates over at LTCtalk.org. The reasoning in favour for ASICs, buy the core dev team, made me sick to my stomach, and I moved completely out.

wow that was it! Thanks a lot, "successfully started masternode"

Finally, after a week of trying I'm running my own masternode. Cheesy
