The solution to this is straightforward: any changes to the votes must also change the hash of the block, which will prevent the network from thinking these two blocks are the same. Next week we will begin testing code to fix this issue. This will include setting up hundreds of daemons and several more pools on testnet to better simulate mainnet. Barring any new issues, we should be ready to launch in 2-3 weeks.

Why is it necessary to delay by 2-3 weeks if the solution is so simple? I appreciate caution, up to a certain point, but I'm wondering if Evan isn't being a little too cautious here.

To give plenty of time for testing. If all goes better than expected, they can always move the date forward like they did when they moved RC3 from the 27th to the 20th. Better than underestimating and having to put the date back.

I guess. It just seems like at some point you fix the issue and pull the trigger. I bet they could really test the hell out of it in 3-6 months, but that would obviously not be tenable.

My concern is that they are pushing back the really important stuff, like RC4, to test such a "straightforward" solution. Sometimes an excess of caution can be bad.

Well, for me it's fun, LOL.  I'm not a trader, so watching these guys find issues and trying to help, but more watching how people try tricking the system, while Evan tries to catch 'em, it's a blast!

I know you day traders are worried about the current price, I can understand that, but for someone like myself who isn't going to trade, this is where the fun is at.  When this coin is really working at 100%, it's going to be such an amazing achievement!  It's already gotten so far.

What happened today was a quirk, that really couldn't be replicated in the "short" time we tested with the few miners we had.  Two miners finding the block at the "same time", I doubt that is common.  I would think it required our huge hashing power to happen?  And it did resolve eventually, but of course, it took too long.  Still, I feel good about today, I think we've made great progress, and I'll be ready to start all my miners up to give my minute hash ability to the cause, LOL

Well, Evan's modus operandi is to set a date of release as soon as he feels it's ready.  So it may not take 3 weeks, but he's giving himself as much space as he feels he needs so he doesn't have to postpone more than necessary.  He already sees the solution to today's problems, so it's just a matter of coding it.

Also, what has Evan been doing since he set today's fork date?  Do you think he's been sitting back partying?  I doubt it, he's admitted he loves to code with his headphones on, in his own world.  I am certain that a LOT of what RC4 will contain (top secret, LOL) is well started Cheesy

Not a bad day.  We really needed to do this, because we don't have the hashing power on testnet, and the numbers in general for this kind of thing to have popped up.  Actually, I kind of thing of today as being quite successful in the progress of the coin.

BTW Camosoul, if you're really buying everyone's coins, I want to marry you!  Heck, I'll even vet all your hookers, make sure they're top quality!  I'll run your household, but I want half of your worth, LOL.  Only problem is.... I'm already married...hummmm, LOL

Someone tell me more about our new devs, are they as good as I hear? How much brighter is DRK's future today? Should everyone be panic-buying now? Smiley

Good points. In that case testing RC4 is the bottleneck, and my argument still holds (delays to RC3 delay the release of RC4 since it will require time to test, even if it is completely coded).

Anyway, I do trust Evan and the team and I'm certainly content to let them do their work. I do hope that they move the date up so we can put RC3 to bed and move on, but I'm sure they will do what they feel is best.

Oh yes yes, I didn't mean to say everything hasn't been delayed because of this, yes of course it has.  But I'm hoping if everything goes well, it won't be too hard on the time table.  But of course, if you haven't noticed, I am an eternal optimist, LOL

Well, if you listen to me, Evan and CHAOSITEC have angle wings, so I'm probably not the one to say, LOL.  But seriously, we've gained more than these two, recently flare has done a ton to help out as well.  Plus we have El Presidente chaeplin, eltito, and numerous other wonderful people seriously doing so much for this coin, Fernando, Propulsion, LimLims, JustMIke, etc... etc... I'm going to forget so many, I'm sorry!

I don't have knowledge of their credentials as coders, but I do know CHAOSiTEC seriously promoted DRK.  He gave away so many DRK, over 18000 drk in promotions, tips, give-aways etc... to help DRK.  He used to run LotteryMining, where he threw in lots of extra dark into the pot to make things more enticing.  He didn't do it for the money, he pretty much gave it all away.  He once said he only had 2% of what he had left.  I think his generosity got the better of him!  I do hope he has many more drk now!

I'm so excited they're now joining officially to help in development!

Yah, an old lady groupie who wants to adopt 'em all so I can play with "my" grandchildren, LOL  (sometimes I think my kids will never get married and have kids "ewwww, I'm never gonna have kids!  I'd rather adopt (fine with me, LOL) But I won't do that either cause they scare me!"  LOL.

+1 a stronger dev team is maybe even more important than the fast release of RC3, I am more confident than ever this will be one of the strongest coins around for a long time to come!
