Im kind of curious to know if the dev's trade around this info or halt their trading activity day of patches? It can be dangerous to play in these games when this is the case. I have no reason to believe but have the dev's assured anyone that they don't trade off the knowledge?

Kinda seems well played for those in the "know"

Its going to take one more month for what you call "simple problem" ?

You've created this account and made 13 posts. Unsurprisingly, all 13 are to bash DRK.

Obvious troll is obvious...

If they wanted to trade on inside info, I don't think #darkcoin-test would be publicly visible.

you are in cryptoland, pal, anyone could potentially do anything - not making specific accusation, but given the total absence of regulations here, it is a wishful thinking to hope for that insider knowledge will not be used in the markets

I just wonder if hes stated it either way. I can't help but feel like If I had a lot of coins I'd want to hope I would be fair. But you put thousands of dark coins in my hand and tell me nobody will know if I sell first and then tell news... makes it easily manipulated from the inside. As someone who wants to stay long with 30 dark domains registered I hope to have confidence and the team and products integrity as well.

know what I mean?

If it takes more than hours or days to implement this hard fork then I'd say it'll be months before the coin see's 0.02 again.
Hopefully we don't have another few weeks wait on our hands, although I know what has to be done, has to be done.

I really doubt that this is the case. But, if this goes on again and again, such speculation could have some valid points... There are huge amounts of btc traded.

It just sucks to feel like a pawn today in a game, with "announcements" and significant jolts in every which way. Makes for a traders dream. I don't want days like this to be full of manipulation and slander in the future but working together and fixing the issue.

If this was such a simple fix why are we finding this out now, and why has it been so volitile? We need to figure out how to reduce the BS next time and make it less events to trade on, and more getting accomplished. Yet again people will trade off this news when its "fixed" and if its not, and so on.

It's computer code. It's going to have flaws. IMO you just have to decide what kind of investor you are. If you're in for the long term, you laugh at the trolls and weak hands and go about your day. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of long term holders don't even visit this thread.

Somebody gave some really good advice a couple weeks ago. They said to turn off the computer for two weeks and forget about DRK, just let it ride. I'd extend that to "the next six months." If you believe, you believe. If you don't, you don't.

Hopefully we don't have another few weeks wait on our hands, although I know what has to be done, has to be done.

problem is you could test for years on testnet; but within a hour after production release a new problem never seen before suddenly appears. They really should revise their testing protocol.

I mean the issue here has apparently nothing related with version differences across the network, it is just a code oversight breaking the consensus by not considering the votes in the hashes computations.

[01:51] <evan82> http://pastebin.com/QmbM8dPH
[01:51] <evan82> I found the problem :-)
[01:51] <evan82> It's actually rather simple to fix
[01:51] <tifozi> ahem
[01:52] <evan82> anyone care to guess from the paste? I'm curious
[01:52] <tifozi> checking
[01:52] <tifozi> badVote
[01:53] <evan82> Both votes have the same hash, but they have different votes
[01:53] <evan82> er both blocks*
[01:54] <evan82> Two blocks are solved at nearly the same moment on the network, both are propogated and accepted by the network. In the current implementation both blocks have the same hash, but in these blocks there's some discrepency about who to vote for.
[01:54] <evan82> In one block the miner votes for 88802 and 88803, in the other the miner abstains from voting. When the next block is solved it's based on of one of the older blocks, so half of the network beleives the miner cheated and rejects the block causing a fork.
[01:54] <GNULinuxGuy> nice Cheesy
[01:54] <evan82> The solution to this is rather simple. Any changes to the votes need to also change the hash of the block. The network must not think these two blocks are the same.
[01:54] <tifozi> How come we didnt see this in testnet
[01:54] <tifozi> seems rather simple problem
[01:55] <tifozi> what in mainnet causes it
[01:55] <evan82> Not sure. No one noticed.
[01:55] <qqr> race conditions are hard to witness

HURRAY!  Time for a beer.
