Whew... Though I was going to be in a rush. I can't decide what card to get. Glad I have some more time.

r9 270x is a great value.

between 430-490 kh/s (scrypt)

I've been looking at that one. phm said hes getting 2MH on one 290. On https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison one 290 gets 1MH. phm's rate is double. So would a 270x have double the LTC rate on DRK?

Pretty much, yeah. Thread concurrency comes more into play when you're parallelizing more algorithms, and the better cards are better at handling that. Therefore, you would expect the 270X to have just under double the LTC rate.

just looked at prices for the 270x.  Wow, they've increased 60-80$ more than what I paid a month ago.  The visiontek is the only cheap one and that might be for a reason, their cooler doesn't look as robust as the others.

Gigabyte GV-R929D5-4GD-B overclocked to 1000/1500.

No, I would only provide source code.

Hell no, I'd love to see a faster version. With this one my rig eats only about 900W of power, the cards are not fully used yet (it eats ~1400W with scrypt kernels).

Just to let everyone know we're up to 3000DRK for the GPU bounty to try and get phm to release his source code. It would be helpful if other people could donate also to even the playing field again :

XcVWt1B4EwxRgHXDnJyxGDwhEDDwfWvKpY

Thanks for your support!

ps, this bounty is extended to anyone who can get a GPU miner up and running with a reasonable amount of efficiency .

Here's my partially working GPU miner: https://github.com/evan82/darkcoin-sgminer

phm has claimed the bounty (I just don't want other people wasting their time when he has something that works). He says he's making a few modifications and he'll release in a couple days.

I'm perfectly fine with some other guy taking the money if his miner does a better job than my current 2 MH/s for single R9 290. Let the best code win.
Almost 10x performance, but power consumption is close to 10x, so this gives hope to CPU miners that they can still squeek out some coins

Electricity costs for mining will set a price floor and at 10x GPU vs CPU is roughly the same based on electricity used, now if GPU got 100x performance, then CPU mining is dead. As it is, CPU mining will create the same amount of DRK per watt, so it will remain viable.

I'm more concerned with CPU farm miners dumping when the gpu miner comes out.  If the gpu miners come piling in, diff shoots up, they dont get many coins.

What happens to DRK? from 0.0006 to 0.0004 in 1 day?
have I lost something?

It's still only on two small exchanges anyways, it's not like their is much volume needed to affect the price either way. I think people who are dumping DRK right now are the same ones who sold Doge and Vert in the first days of mining. Geniuses.

I think people are getting nervous about BTC/USD falling down, so they want to exchange everything to fiat for the time being. I pondered that for a while too.

Raising the bar a bit:

Saw you mining on the pool.darkpool.io at 8-9MH/s, but the Efficiency went WAY down, as soon as you stopped mining it went up.

Think you have some issues!

Whats the absolute minimum needed to get a GPU up and running?

As far as I know a PCIE slot is essential but what about the rest? cpu? memory? power?

Would something like these be acceptable?

Both of those will work.  You would still need 650w+ psu, harddrive/ssd (windows) or memory stick (linux), cd-drive for windows install, keyboard, mouse, monitor, and wifi usb stick if you can't hard wire it.

You can remove the monitor, keyboard, and mouse after you set it up and run it headless.
