https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2020/may/08/korea-k-league-watch-live-stream-free-jeonbuk-v-suwon-bluewings

BCCI should look into this option. I do not think the government of India should have any issue, they have already started easing the lockdown. In my opinion after 17th of May if the lockdown is removed. BCCI should conduct the tournaments.

Lol do you even know, how many cases in South Korea? They almost finished Corona from South Korea, that's why they started some sports events. In India we are even not reached peak, how can we start any sports event?

Same is the case with Pakistan. The problem with both countries is that people will begin to die from hunger if the lock down is not lifted. Our government has also ease the lockdown from 9 May and this may give some jobs/business for the people but it can also make the corona cases rise all of sudden. And cricket, just forget about it for the time being.

There are states where the virus has been controlled to an extent. I think BCCI can look into those regions. Anyways the government has already started asking the citizens that they have to live with the virus, why not gradually start with sports. They have already given ease to most businesses now not to forget alcohol in particular.

Is sports that important in India that people can't live without it ?
Common on, there are more important things than sports in this pandemic situation.

The situation in India is very much different from what they have in South Korea. There, the pandemic has peaked, and on average they are having 5-10 new cases per day. Here in India, the peak is yet to be reached and we have around 4,000 new cases per day. Under these circumstances, it will be suicidal to stage the IPL anytime during the next 2-3 months. As I mentioned earlier, the best option is to cancel this year's tournament.

Since the gate collection amounts for a smaller proportion when compared to the other franchise leagues, the BCCI may be aiming for conducting the matches behind closed doors (i.e without any crowd attendance). But then, who will guarantee for the health of the players, match officials, workers at the stadium.etc?

In one of my earlier posts, I had supported Australia going ahead with the preparations for the T20 World Cup. But that was just because the pandemic situation in Australia is under complete control. On average, they have 10-20 new cases per day, compared to 4,000-5,000 in India.

Agree with you fully, seriously how people even think about any sports, when millions of poor people going their states/villages hungry by walk who lost their jobs, and that guy is thinking about running IPL events. Today highest number of cases in India, crossed 4200, and we really don't know how many asymptomatic there, who is spreading Corona without knowingly and that guy is thinking about IPL than savings millions of lives.

We really lost empathy, seriously these noob don't understand we are not developed country, where sports or entertainment matter much. We are poor country where 60-70% people still depends on agriculture or daily wages.

I mentioned this somewhere before too that even if Australia become 100% corona free country, it cannot held the T20 World cup because the other countries players will have to travel to Australia and it is possible some staff may be affected with covid-19. Another fact is that international travel is also very much restricted.

Yeah, cases are increasing rapidly and who know what might happen if any sports get approval in India. I want to see cricket badly as well but not in such conditions.

Agreed with the sentiments.

And coming back to @pakhitheboss i believe that difference of opinions are okay otherwise there are chances that we might end up in our own echo chamber.

Yeah, they are in better place.

BTW I don't mind if BCCI working on any back-up plans or different scenario even if there is 1% chance of situation get backs to normal in coming months. Just be ready, no matter what....

This is the time where we all get in front of our TV and watch the live IPL matches and enjoy the wickets, four, sixes etc. But now this time it has being a different only by watching the highlights of previous seasons and seeing some spectacular catches, magnificent sixes hits compilations and enjoying the game as other like one of the cricket fans. Will have to wait for the next annoucement of IPL status.

The BCCI has suggested a two week quarantine for the players, in order to move forward the Australian tour of India. The same can be done with the T20 World Cup as well. But then, it may be a bit more complicated because players from a total of 16 countries, and the support staff needs to be quarantined. I am not sure whether Cricket Australia is ready for this.

Tbh there is no chance for IPL this year, but considering the current scenario in India, it wouldn't come as a surprise if the Govt asks BCCI to go on with the tournament to get some taxes. Even when the number of cases are rising day by day, the Govt has relaxed the lockdown conditions and I'm sure the situation is going only to be worse.
But I think there is hope for T20 world cup in Australia as the conditions are getting better there.

As cases are on rise government already have many things to look at and would not like to take any chances and considering this where gathering is a mass number they would avoid it. Another option just could be without audiences the match is played and but then too with this some ground staff would be require and just in case if any covid case happened to player this may just fall back badly on government and opposition party will tear them.

Here in Tripura, the state government is saying that their tax revenue has fallen to 1/10th of the normal level. I am sure that the situation is the same with the other states as well. The government can't go on with this lockdown forever, and IMO it won't be extended after May 17th. But regarding the IPL, now it may be too late. In a couple of weeks, the monsoon season will start. The only possibility of staging the IPL is if they move the tournament to Australia. (With COVID pandemic peaking in the GCC, I don't think that the UAE is a viable option to host the tournament).

Even if they decide to go through with the IPL season this year, the entire country will probably boycott the government and criticize them heavily for focusing on money under current conditions when saving lives is the priority.

I disagree. Certain governments have already extended the lockdowns beyond the 17th to the end of the month or something. They will continue extending the lockdown while providing some relaxations here and there in my opinion.

Already majority (95%) of people don't pay taxes in India and now this... Every country facing financial challenges due to lock down and whole India is in same bracket as well. I would be very surprise if Australia say yes to this proposal, 99.99% they are going to reject this idea even in hypothetical scenario. They might opt for T-20 World cup any day over IPL as WC is more lucrative for them.

I am not sure whether the T20WC is more lucrative when compared to the IPL. IPL is a multi-billion USD event, but then if they stage it in Australia the revenues may be lower. I agree with your post. Australia may prefer the World Cup over the IPL. That said, there is a proposal from the UAE to stage the tournament there:

The United Arab Emirates, which had hosted the the first leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2014, has emerged as one of the options if the Indian cricket board eventually decides to shift the 2020 edition out of the country.

IPL is profitable for BCCI but not much for CA. they might get some percentage of revenue cut from the BCCI, that's it ... bigger share belongs to BCCI. Plus there is some romanticize factor with the World Cup.

If BCCI thinking about shifting IPL then Sri Lanka seems better candidate to me as its close to India so not much fuss about logistics and SriLanka has lower cases of Covid-19 in comparison of UAE.
