He may have scored only 6 runs, but he gave a lot of support to Saud Shakeel. Naseem was at the crease for a long time. He scored 6 runs off 78 balls. And at the same time helped Saud Shakeel towards a double century.

Saud Shakeel was unbeaten with 208 runs. If any other batsmen of Pakistan could have helped Shakeel a little, then maybe Pakistan would have collected 500 runs.

Pakistan has taken a huge lead of 149 runs. At the end of the second day, it seemed that Pakistan would not be able to collect even 300 runs. There, Pakistan's innings stopped at 461 runs. Sri Lankan captain looked out of sorts after Saud Shakeel and Agha Salman dug in. The captain persisted with Ramesh Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya, rather than sharing the workload with Vishwa Fernando and Kasun Rajitha. Even after Agha Salman got out, the Lankans struggled against the Pakistani lower order batsmen. Naseem Shah was a thorn in their flesh, adding an invaluable 94 runs along with Saud Shakeel. And out of 94 runs, he made just 6 runs (after facing 78 balls). That partnership was the turning point in today's play.

The batsmen thought of the team and played any wrong shots and were patient at the wicket which eventually led Pakistan to end the first innings with a lead of 149 runs. Sri Lanka came to bat again in their second and last innings where the Sri Lankans finished the third day's game unbeaten on 14 runs without a wicket at the end of the third day's play. Pakistan ending the innings with a lead of 149 runs is a bit of bad news for Sri Lanka as it is not possible for Sri Lanka to set a big target against Pakistan in this match.

The match that was moving towards draw is now moving towards the result. The term suits well, magical performance from Shakeel and Agha. Beyond all this the performance of Naseem Shah attracted me. It is not easy to face 78 balls and score 6 runs batting at the bottom. That gave Shakeel to reach his 200+ runs.

Sri Lanka have opened the second innings. Trial by 135 runs and further to set the target needs atleast 550 runs to be scored. This is going to be tough against the Pakistan bowlers.

I don't know how anyone can blame Naseem Shah. He was the one who rescued Pakistan. Along with Shakeel, Naseem added 94 runs for the 9th wicket and handed Pakistan such a big lead. Else the lead would have been less than 50 runs and Pakistan would have been unable to exert any sort of psychological pressure on the Sri Lankans. And not just Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed at no.11 also scored crucial runs and helped Saud Shakeel to get to his double century. Lankan bowlers looked perplexed about what to do.

So far this match is more likely to be a draw than a win or loss. But it doesn't take much time for the match to turn around. On the fourth day, if Pakistan can quickly pick up several wickets of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka will have a chance of getting all out quickly. If Sri Lanka can get all out quickly, Pakistan will be far ahead in terms of winning chances in this match.

As you said if you want to pick quick wickets you have to use spinner more in the beginning. If the spin bowlers continue to bowl regularly and bowl wicket to wicket, Sri Lanka will surely make mistakes and if they make mistakes, the Sri Lankan batsmen will be out. The extra pressure for Sri Lanka is Pakistan's lead of 149 runs to end the innings. If they lose three to four wickets to score 149 runs, Pakistan will have a good advantage against Sri Lanka.

I don't agree with this argument. Obviously Abrar Ahmed should be given extended spells, but let's not forget that Pakistan's strength lies with their fast bowlers, especially Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah. Just because the pitch is supportive of the spin bowlers, the pacers should not be ignored. And the lead is not that large, although it is significant. All it takes is one good partnership for the Lankan top order and the match will rapidly drift out of Pakistan's hands. They can't be complacent and need to wrap up the Lankan innings as quickly as possible.
