Though Rahane and Vihari are on the crease, I think that it will be tough for India to capture the match as they will have 2 long days before them and quite a good batting lineup of New Zealand to deal with.

Both the batsmen spend decent amount on the crease and stopped the wicket flow in the last session but as you said still 2 long days to be played and no chance for rain might give us a feeling that its difficult task from now to win this match for team India.If India ca find one 100 run partnership or more from this match then it can change the course of the entire match from now.

This is test match and any thing can happen because test history is full of miracles but right now best thing is can Rhanae and Vaihari can stay on crease for long time if they able then surley any target in fourth inning is easy just need 100+ runs on board Pant and Ashwin still to come so this is possible if New Zealand tail enders can give more then 120 so here is also possibility need some fox and patience from these guys.

India would like to forget this test match as there was nothing from their side which could help the audiences or themselves to be in the game. After poor performance in 1st innings it was expected that they would atleast stay on the pitch and make some decent score, but they just could not even cross 200 runs barrier proved that this series most likely would be white washed again. In the end NZ won by 10 wickets and Southee was the player of the match.

I don't think they need a miracle or anything. The Indian bowlers can destroy the NZ batting lineup if they bowl the right lengths. All the batsmen need to do at this stage is to drag the game for as long as possible and post a target close to 250 minimum.

Sharma and Ashwin are already performing currently. If Bumrah joins the party, they can do wonders. Also, if it starts raining again, it could possibly end up in a draw. This is why test results are always tough to predict.

Target close to 250? Not happening. Currently, they are trail by 40 runs or so. Rahane, Vihari and Pant are the only batsmen left for India, I don't they'll be able to score another 300 runs tomorrow. Even if they miraculously manage to post such a target, there is still one day left for NZ to win the match. So this match is a goner for India.

Target was only 9 runs which NZ made them easily. We were hoping that Indian could fight back or even if they lose, they lose it while fighting but the match was one sided and was a disappointment for the Indian fans.
Next test is on 29 on February and i am hoping Indian team would make some serious changes in their lineup.

After the dominance in the T20 format they lost the plot altogether as New Zealand completely dominated in ODI white washing them and that is continuing in the Test series too, Virat Kohli was their main player and he is not firing throughout the ODI series and now in this match and that is a thing of concern as the entire team depends on his performance. Complete dominance by New Zealand and i am expecting the same dominance in the second match and how India will come back is to be seen.

Come on people. No need to be so hard on them. No team is perfect. This is their 1st test loss after a long time and I am expecting them to bounce back in the 2nd test. Sad times for Indian fans, but an optimistic approach to future games is key here.

This game made me admire Kohli even more since he is very optimistic and he is confident that the team will turn things around soon. However, many of the newbies except Mayank were disappointing. I am expecting them to come back strong in the next game.

India has played their worse in this test match and in the ODIs and NZ had not to struggle even once in 3 days. Getting less than 200 in both innings and being unable to restrict the other team means they can't bowl well nor bat well. Virat blames the toss now and feels 220-230 would have been a good score. Is he the same person who used to not follow up despite having made 400+ runs last year? Now he'll say Test match is not our priority as we are focusing on T20 WC.

Losing the game is not problem but the way they surrendered.

India hardly lose game in home. Problem comes when they tour any SENA countries, I understand Winning a test match in SENA countries is not easy task for any sub-continent team but at-least show some spine. To give you example In 2018 Srilanka saved the game at very same ground by batting all day and this Indian squad has minimum 6 match winner if not more who are capable of performing or winning anywhere in the world but whenever they visit SENA countries they always repeat same mistake again and again.

They might win next game as they always do, TBH its becoming lousy habit of losing first game miserably only to take things seriously later. I am sure after this series they are not going to learn anything from it and they might slide all mistakes under the rug one more time because next series is schedule in Dec (Long break) against the Australians in Australia.

True. My guess is that India is currently going out of their way to experiment with newbies in order to prepare them asap since some major players might retire in the near future. Mayank has sealed his test spot in my opinion, but they need more consistent performers.

Bangladesh is making this one side test match as they post 560/6 in first innings and declared it .Rahim made double century and was not out at 203 . In response Zimbabwe lost 2 wickets already in second innings for a score of 9 runs. They trail by another 286 runs and might lose the test match by innings and some runs .

New Zealand pulling themselves from the T20 disaster and dominating India and that is what we are seeing.

The problems with the team are never ending. Virat's not performing, openers not performing, Rohit is injured, Bumrah is unable to take wickets, choosing inexperienced and out of form players instead of experienced ones. Indian team are not dependent on Virat as when he performs too, the bowlers fail and when he doesn't, Rohit, Rahul and Iyer come to the rescue and this time we had none.

I am surprised why KL Rahul is not in the team as he is the inform batsman and they had experience in Rahane and Pujara but they could make an impact.

Okay Rahul name popping so.. We should not forget that management already tried him as test opener in South Africa, England and Australia and he was part of the team for 2 long years. he failed miserably there except one occasion where he made a hundred (England) in losing cause after 8 inning or so. this 100 saved him despite it was not very important inning in the match situation. then his bad form continue in Australia that's where Mayank got the Test cap and Rahul got kicked.

Dhawan didn't played any competitive cricket for 2 whole month before Australian tour and got injured followed by bad form then drop from the test team. so he's responsible for his exclusion, he didn't want to play test cricket anyway as he's getting old.

Rohit was supposed to play in England and Australia but every time got injured in limited over cricket. Same thing happen here in New Zealand, so automatically drop

Now I see India is in the same position as New Zealand was after the T20 series. It's a shame for Indian cricket. I wonder what excuses the board and management have now. They used to have an excuse of experiment when they lose matches. Are they doing the same?

Not heartbreaking but disappointed because this team has capability of putting up fight or winning the test match in SENA countries. I was afraid that India is going to lose if they lose the toss and it happened but i was not expecting this kind of bad performances from the Team as they have many match winning players, Win-lose is part of the game, you win some you lose some so its completely fine but losing in such manner looks bad for no 1 team. Now, how we are supposed to troll English team?  hiding face lol 

let's hope they bounce back and perform in the next game, if not winning then at-least put some great fight. that's what test cricket is all about.

Today I woke up at 6am, hoping to watch a few overs of play before departing for office. But by the time I switched on the television, match was over. It was difficult to believe. They were at 144/4 yesterday. During the first session of play today, they added 47 runs in 16 overs, losing 6 of their remaining wickets. For me, it was difficult to digest at first..
