~ South Africa did the best to save the match, but things didn't work as they expected. During the start things went good. Once the wicket of Petersen fell, further the wickets fell continuously. South Africa lost its 6th wicket at 172 runs and ended the innings at 179 runs. With this England won have won the match by an innings and 85 runs. Now the series is tied 1-1, and the third match will be interesting as it is the decider for the series winning.
With a terrible performance in the first innings by South Africa, it was a hard come back after England scoring a decisive lead in the first innings and then it is a matter of time how long they will survive. Now a days we do not see any classic batsman who could stay in the crease for a long time and hence to think that they would survive for a day or two is an impossible proposition .

After watching this match I am feeling both teams are level in quality and England is done better just because of home advantage and toss is also having big impact on matches as both time South Africa won toss and in first match South Africa bowl first but in second match they bat first which have clearly missed read of the pitch, and they fail to have some good runs on board. South African and English both top rank batsmen fail to have some good runs in their account mostly runs done by lower order batsmen and these are helping teams for having some better situation Stokes is surely amazing all-rounder, and he deserves this man of the match after having four wickets and 100+ vital runs for his team success.

These days it is something same as the ODI, because the scoring pattern is almost the same. In the previous set of players it is possible to see the true test cricketers like Rahul Dravid, Brian Lara, Jacques Kallis and so on. During those days we can expect them to withstand long on the ground, but the score won't come up. In today's match it Petersen who did upto his ability facing the highest number of balls.

Skipper Dean Elgar and coach Mark Boucher must be kicking each other and their analyst, who suggested to go with 2 spinners and opting to bat first at Trafford.
In hindsight, they must be thinking that things could've been different. Full marks to Poms, they bounced back nicely. Now, 3rd test is going to be an interesting matchup.

SA and west Indies have to show their skill to come up to the tip 8 teams to ICC world cup. .. But surprisingly Afghanistan has made its mark to the top 7 - amazing work done by Afghans

From what I heard, they had to include Simon Harmer, since he was given the promise of regular appearances for the national team. Keshav Maharaj can't be dropped, since he is in terrific form. So the decision was taken to drop the promising Marco Jansen and include Harmer in his place. Can't drop Ngidi, since it will upset the racial quota (already they are below the target, as the playing XI only had 4 colored players). Hopefully Harmer will not complain if he sits out for the next few matches.

Who else thinks that this match will end today?
Looking back at the first innings, when the pitch was supporting the English bowlers do you guys think the same thing will happen in the second innings? The SA side has not lost any wickets yet and has scored 23 runs and I am expecting that on day 3 they might lose all the wickets. 241 runs lead is not that easy for the SA batters to chase unless and until they form a partnership.
The match is already ended with the result of England won by an inning and 85 what transformation by England after losing first match in just three days they fight back and won this second test match at Manchester by same style with an inning bowlers done amazing job specially I love to watch James Anderson as he is taking five to six wickets in every match now his tally is 664 in 174 matches which is incredible. Now, it's time for South Africa they need to think about their mistakes which they have done in this match with their batting totally fail, and they have to face this big defeat now they have 11 days for covering their confidence and have to fight for win in this series at The Oval. Good, come back by the English side. Now it will be more interesting to watch the third test match. Hopefully, that would not end in just three days. All praises to Ben Stokes his contribution as a captain, batter, and bowler was immense in this test match. Without his contribution as a batter, the English side would not have been able to put pressure on the SA batters. With this loss, SA has lost its top position on the point table of the World Test Championship. Interestingly Srilanka is on third position followed by India. Australia is at number 1 position.

You play the condition and choose horses for the courses so I don't think that was the major reason. They definitely had a different thought process about Trafford's pitch (3 seamer + 2 spin), that's why they opted to bat first as they were banking on 2 spinners to finish the job on 4th-5th day, this strategy clearly didn't pan out.

Its time England must understand that for long term gain they must perform as a team not just one player.

In this test match, South Africa lost very badly and now the test series is drawn at 1-1 as a result. As a result of this, the test series turned out to be a very interesting one. First of all, in this match, South Africa was not able to do anything well with their bats, and when they came on to bowl, they were not able to do anything well with their bowls as well. South Africa, on the other hand, was unable to do anything on the same pitch where England was playing so well. that’s what I found really amazing . Obviously, there were some bad decisions taken but the outcome shouldn’t have been so different for different teams.

However, all departments of the South African team need to be improved.

First test was dominated by SA and Second is dominated by England. I dont think England is in complete control over SA they have the capability to bounce back in third match. SA won the first test by an inning and 12 runs, this means they can compete with England. Never celebrate too early.

Everyone in the team should contribute but only one or two players are contributing. This will surely become a big problem for the English side in the future.

After having good fightback by England now most chances they will win third test and this series because they are at home, and they have good bowling squad even if we compare with South Africa then South Africa is much better, but they are on road, so advantage is going with home team and now England batting is also giving positive impressions which mean they can do better in third test which is going to play at The Oval. Historically this is in favor of spin bowler but now how they have done nothing is sure we have to wait for updates about this because South Africa is having better spin in squad so with this they can go with fast bowlers option which is also not bad at all for them as their bowlers are doing much better than African.

Another factor that came to play was Harmer's excellent record at Manchester. He has played close to a decade in English county cricket and he has a prolific record at Old Trafford. Unfortunately for South Africa, nothing worked out in the end and the omission of Marco Jansen proved to be a historical blunder. South Africa's problem is not with the lack of talent. Their real problem is with the opaque selection policy. After getting such a rough treatment, I won't be surprised if Jansen decide to emigrate out of South Africa at some time in the future.

Right now, Quota system and selection policy is the biggest threat for South African cricket if they can't settle this as soon as possible as surely they are going to down even out of the race for staying at top if coloured players are not having enough quality then why they are insisting for them here surely they need to do some better policy or allow more white players because now after thirty years of entry they are still not able to bring changes in domestic setup and have enough quality that surely it's their fault, and they have not to punish white players for this which bring more dilemma in their game and quality. With this all currently South African biggest enemy is their own policies which are not allowing them for having good results and give quality players chance to go through with team for long time.

Politics and sports have never gone very well alongside each other. It is inevitable that there will always be problems when sports are mixed with politics. But that does not seem to be an issue for the Authority of almost every cricket board, not only South Africa. Moreover, it is also important to understand that to some extent, the decision of which players will play in the starting 11 is also made by politicians. And it is very true that you cannot put the deciding match on luck Just because a player is showing good promises. You have to play that player who is already delivering the goods. As of now, the momentum is with England, and I believe it will be very difficult for South Africa to win the next match as a result of this.

But without quota system we see only white cricketers like in 90s. There was hardly any white player, now government of SA has decided to give black players representation in national team and everyone losing the cool. When there was no black player, no one voiced for them.
