The start of the fifth day was not pleasant for India. India is heading for a sure defeat. England has collected more than 60 runs. Joe Root has scored a century and Bairstow is unbeaten on 92. England needs only 53 runs to win. Looking at the performance of the Indian bowlers, it does not seem that they will be able to take any more wickets. England would win easily and not lose a wicket on the fifth day.

I am going to say only one sentence that is going to summarize the situation of the match. England needs 15 runs in 81.4 overs and they have 7 wickets in hand. So, there is no chance for India to win this test match and it looks like it is going to be a  series draw between the two teams. England has played really well to win this test match. At times it did look like they are not going to win this match and eventually lose the series to India but that is not happening in my opinion.

They really crushed us, well played England. You really deserved this win, they have been been playing excellent cricket this summer and we were bit undercooked at crucial points and got sort of complacent as well where batters didn't backed themselves despite being in good position.

Pitch was flat but Indian bowlers know to how to ball on flat tracks, we have witnessed this many times but they were leaking easy runs everywhere, may be because of this new batch of dukes balls which we're going to hear soon imo. Also positive mindset of England played a big part thanks to Stokes and Baz.

Interesting time ahead of us. England was playing at home but now i would be very interesting to watch how this England team perform in Australia and India with their new mindset.

I would like to say that India lost the test match they should have won.
Wait, India still lost when they scored 416 in the first innings and got a lead of 150 approx in the first innings.
India spend two months in playing the world best league IPL and yet they lose form this situation

India's first setback was that, despite leading by 132 runs in the first innings, they gave up a target of just 378 runs. Everyone expected India to collect at least 400 more. If they could have given a target of 430-440, England's batsmen would have been under more pressure, and it would have been very difficult for them to win the match.

The performance of Indian bowlers was not good. Bumrah took 2 wickets. Besides, no other bowler could take a wicket. If the bowlers had performed a little better, maybe the match would have been competitive. India controlled the match for the first 3 days. But in the last two days of the match we saw the dominance of England's players.

Nothing much has changed at the top 5 but current champion are going down royally and virtually out from the race. I've mentioned earlier that England (SL too) are going to play spoiler role in this cycle.
England next target would be one off test against India, this won't be easy one for India.

SL would like to do same with the Aussie in upcoming 2 test match series. Australia need to manage SL spinners if they want to win otherwise their % in tally could take a hit.

Have said earlier that England is going to play spoiler role in this WTC cycle and they did exactly same so far. India lost 2 more points due to slow over rates, this is going to hurt team India's ambitions in this cycle. Now England next target would be South Africa.

Sri Lankan are in shambles so not expecting much from them against Aussie, hope they surprise us in a next game. Pakistan is in sweet spot as they are only playing in the subcontinent, this would be their best chance to grab more points if they want to play finals.

I predicted that England will win the match. I had a strong believe that they would defeat India. Because they play great in tests cricket. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow finished the innings. Both of them have scored hundreds over. However, we will now see who can perform better in the T20 format. That will be the most enjoyable match which is placed Jul 07 2022.

Everyone expected India to collect at least 400 more. If they could have given a target of 430-440, England's batsmen would have been under more pressure, and it would have been very difficult for them to win the match.

378 was actually good enough, but the Indian players messed up by dropping critical catches which could have turned the game around(Ex: Vihari dropping Bairstow on 14 etc). As they say, catches win matches.

I had a strong believe that they would defeat India. Because they play great in tests cricket.

Change of management and captaincy working for England and India having some issues with regular captain Rohit Sharma out of match with Covid19 and their batting was completely down in second inning which was big set back for them with their bowlers which done amazing job in first inning suddenly was doing bowling like third grad club bowlers which is big misery for me in this second round of test match.

Still, we have to praise England's effort after trailing by over 100+ runs they fight back and have their win with the help of Root and Bairstow both were in amazing touch and agreed here with the way of batting if India has 500+ runs then still this was achievable for them because both batsmen play amazing inning and Indian bowlers have no reply of their aggression.

I would like to see emerging players such as T Natarajan and Mohsin Khan in the test team. Even bowlers such as Mukesh Choudhary and Prasidh Krishna deserves a chance to represent India in the longer format.

Unbelievable consistent performance by the English test cricket team. What a crazy chade they have been doing so far. First it was Newzealand and now it is against India. They can easily chade a target of 250+ and they make it look so simple. 378 runs chase and the batting performance of Bairstow is simply unbelievable.

Now it has to win remaining all test matches they will play in order for them to get entry for the finals of world test championship.

India did play quality of cricket for first 3 days but they messed up big time in 4th day and that's why test cricket is considered tough format, if you get complacent then you deserve to lose.

I won't say England was lucky, atm they are high on confidence and momentum is with them by backing their skills, same as India when they beat Aus and very same England team at home and away last year. Having said that their real test would be how they perform in India and Australia.

For comparison, Ravindra Jadeja has a batting average of 36.56 and he is not a yet regular in the Indian test side. Same with Siraj as well. His test bowling average is close to 31, which is far from impressive. Given his inability to bat, I don't believe that there is any logic in giving him chances again and again. For both Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, the average is in the 20s.

Yeah, Vihari's average is bad atm and we've discussed this many times but you have to agree that he mostly play in tough conditions (SENA) and doesn't have luxury to play at home at all. He's considered replacement of Pujara in a long run and for this you have to give him long rope, there is a possibility that he might fail but you still need to give him 1 more tour in every SENA country as you can't just bring new guy out of nowhere and throw in the challenging conditions, unless they are generational talent and so far we have none for number 3 position (SENA only).

Siraj's average was 27-ish before this match started and Shardul's 21-ish so what's your point? 1 bad performance and kicked them out?

My observation is Siraj will play for long, i have no doubt about it. Shardul will only play in SENA only but it would depend on the conditions, the more seaming track he'll get a nod for sure. In india, may be few times, if someone is injured but i would say never.

OK.. let me wait and watch for a few more tours. I don't have detailed stats on how he (Vihari) performs in SENA and sub-continent, so I need to give him the benefit of doubt. But in the next 1-2 tours, he need to deliver a match-winning performance. And regarding Siraj, he is looked okayish in the 5th match. But there is stiff competition for the slot of pace bowlers in Indian national team. Similar to the case of Vihari, I would like to see how he performs during the next test series. BTW, when is the next test series for India? I don't think that any matches are scheduled for the next few months.

The Indian squad was good enough. I have no complaints about the squad. However, the lack of Rohit Sharma in the squad has been well understood. Since the pitch was pace-dependent, they have three experienced bowlers like Bumrah, Shami and Siraj in the squad. These 3 bowlers took 9 wickets in the first innings. But in the second innings, both India's batting and bowling lineup broke down.

India was in control first as batting and then bowling, but suddenly they lost grip on match in their second inning in both sections, first batting and then bowling it's surely misery for me and millions in India. Suddenly why they lost with having amazing start of this match by Pant and Jadu no batsman stay at crease in second inning, and they bowled out very cheaply.

Now time is running out for Kohli as well because he is having poor form for long time with this Indian batting problems are widening because few new batsmen also fail to give any impression hopefully now at home they will bring some batsmen with better technique and quality which works for them in SENA countries as well because things are going worst for them in last few series in SENA countries.
