~ Lasith Malinga is still playing but only in the T20 version of the game and he might be looking to play till the world cup and then announce his retirement and he is 37 years old and even if he is in the team now he is not the same bowler he once was. Sri Lanka needs to find young talents and they need to find good bowlers, if not they will be struggling like they are in the past few years after the retirement of their well accomplished players. Lasith Malinga is 37 years of age and he might be retiring after the next T20 World cup but he is still effective and can bowl his patented yorkers and he can bowl in small spells if he really wants but he has take care of his body and if there was no franchise cricket and T20 he might be bowling still in ODI. Sri Lanka needs to find the young talents and their former players are in the selection panel and we are yet to see major changes in grooming the players. ~ Malinga is 37 years now and I don't know how effective he is nowadays. On the other hand, Pollard is not just one of the best limited overs players in world cricket right now, but he is also one of the best captains. Look at the way he captained the Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2020. Another half century from Pollard yesterday and now West Indies is up by 3-0 in this series. Darren Bravo also hit a hundred, but he was a bit slow.
I am seeing the captaincy skills of Pollard for the first time, earlier i only considered Pollard to be a T20 specialist as i do not remember any outstanding performance in ODI. Darren Bravo is not an explosive batsman and he has the style of Lara but not consistent.

Pollard is a T20 specialist, but nowadays the 50-over format is also becoming more like T20. Totals in excess of 350 are no longer rare in this format. Only negative is that he is not consistent. Also, he doesn't have the patience to stay at crease for some time, if the situation demands that. He is really good if he comes out to bat after the 40th over in an ODI. But if the team is in trouble and needs to build a partnership, then Pollard is not the most suitable person.

Another quick-fire innings from Prithvi Shaw, and that means that Mumbai have won the Vijay Hazare Trophy by 6 wickets margin. Shaw made 73 runs from 39 balls and destroyed the Uttar Pradesh bowlers. Aditya Tare was declared as the man of the match, for his 118 n.o, but it was Shaw who made the win possible for Mumbai. For UP, Madhav Kaushik scored big runs, but he was a bit slow during the start of the innings.
Prithvi Shaw's performance in domestic cricket means nothing now. He wasted a lot of opportunities in the past, when he was selected in the Indian team. This performance would confirm his birth for IPL next year as he scored 73 runs in just 39 balls. And basically every player is more concerned about saving their place in their respective IPL teams rather than their national team. A lot of players are attracted to the huge sum of money that is paid in the auctions and performing well gets them retention which again gives them a lot of money. It's much easier to get selected in an IPL team for local players and even get more chances than they might get in the national team which is another reason why players are more concerned about their performance in the IPL rather than when playing international matches. I was watching the Afghanistan vs Zimbabwe test series and I love some of the talent being presented there. More test matches between these lesser known sides might bring more focus to international cricket than on the local leagues. I don't have anything against these leagues but the pride and respect one felt earlier by playing for their nation is now being lost.

I have to disagree here. International matches remain as the priority. If someone doesn't perform well at the international level, then he may not be able to get a good IPL contract. Also, getting selected in the playing XI for the IPL franchise is not that tough. There are 8 teams in total and they need to play at least 7 Indian players. That means a total of 56 slots, compared to 11 in the national team.

Even if they play well in the T20 format, they will not be able to perform as expected in ODI and Test matches. I think they should be mentally stronger. Because they are physically fit, I think the problem is mental.

His ODI record is not that bad, BTW. He has more than 2,500 runs to his name, although the average of 26.43 may be a bit low if compared to the other all rounders. He makes that up with his high strike rate (>95 in ODI format). And he has 3 hundreds to his name, so we can't really say that Pollard doesn't have the patience to play big innings. Perhaps he should bat a bit higher up. Maybe at no.4?

But Pollard is one of the first class allrounder in the world of T20 format. He is not that much successful in ODI format like T20. I think maybe Pollard should bat at number 3, otherwise the current position is perfect for him. He is a very good finisher.

In latest news from South Africa, Heinrich Klaasen has been awarded a contract by Cricket South Africa and he will be replacing Faf du Plessis. It makes easier for du Plessis to participate in various T20 leagues, as he no longer requires the prior approval from CSA (he had retired from test cricket last month). Also, Ross Taylor is out of the first two ODIs against Bangladesh due to injury. Indications are that Devon Conway will take his spot.

Is New Zealand touring Bangladesh or its other way around? I thought Kiwis skipped all away tours after the Covid outbreak or they already rescheduling new series.

Bangladesh is touring New Zealand and the first ODI will be played at Dunedin this Saturday. New Zealand has cancelled all the away tours and they are playing only at home. Now Bangladeshi players need to be careful here, because when last time Pakistan toured New Zealand some of the Pakistani players breached the bio-bubble protocols and the NZC threatened to call off the tour.

Pollard is a hard hitter if he stays in pitch for just a couple of overs he can destroy the opponent team. With captainship on his shoulders, he is not playing any risky shot. That is why you are seeing a different pollard on the field. He did play very well in the last IPL and I do not think he will have any issues in the upcoming T20 world cup.

With players such as Pollard and Russell, West Indies should be the favorites for this year's T20 World Cup. Also, many of the West Indies players have good experience of playing in India, as they are participating in the IPL. They are the defensing champions as well, and therefore a lot of people expect them to perform well during this edition. However, as per the ICC T20 ranking, West Indies is ranked 9th.

The reason for West Indies in the lower side of rankings is that they never play with their best team due to multiple reasons and if they come together they will be a huge challenge for the rest of the teams.

IMO, West Indies and England are the favorites, with New Zealand being another team with strong chances to win the world cup. I would have added India to the list, but their performance during the ICC tournaments is not that good, even with the presence of star players. Australia is not in good form right now and the remaining teams can't even compete properly against the top sides.

I am yet to see a strong performance from New Zealand outside their home ground advantage and India does have a strong team but they are not playing with their strongest team in recent times, they might be experimenting to get the right combination or whatever but i said what i said with the established team they will be playing during the World cup.

India do have a very strong lineup, but they are struggling against England in the ongoing T20 series, although they are having the home advantage. Everything else is working for India - spin/pace bowling, middle order batting.etc. But the openers are not in good form. KL Rahul had yet another pathetic outing yesterday, and Kohli wants to stick with him instead of giving opportunity to some of the younger players such as Shubman, Devdutt, Ishan Kishan or Prithvi Shaw.

Just because KL Rahul is not able to bat does not mean Indian team is struggling. Every team has home advantage but it still does not mean home team will dominate the series. A lot of new players are being tested in this T20 series before the T20 worldcup which I think is a good idea before Indian selectors sit and choose the final worldcup squad.

Sometime home advantage become as a disadvantage because there is also a lot of home pressure. If your openers are not performing well consistently, this will impact a lot of pressure on the middle order and can impact their performance also. Sometimes shuffling in the batting line up also works good for the team.
