You have a W limit for each of the 4 chains so just limit them. for example if the front ones (1 and 3) are limited to 180 and the rear ones (2 and 4) are set at 145 or so, you should get the about 700W at wall usage depending on your PSU rating

I'd like to limit the SP20 to run at 700W at the wall (so that 2 can run on a single 120V/15A circuit); any tips on how best to achieve that? I'm thinking that reducing the starting/max voltages will be sufficient, but I'd like to hear what others here are doing to run these at lower powers and higher efficiencies.

Ambient/intake temperature will be 25C or a few degrees higher. Noise is not an issue. I have a kill-a-watt meter so that power draw can be easily measured. Thanks in advance.

Also set your starting voltage low, (must be lower than max) once it levels out go back and adjust starting voltage to where you are .005 from the stable voltage for each chain.

Which parameter is the stable voltage? I see vlt1, vlt2, DCL, TL and UL on ASIC page.

So if I would of just waited a few days before ordering I would of saved $405. basically a whole month of ROI

That is almost always true in this game, at any time, with any product.
In fact, products go from coveted to worthless in a blink of an eye.

With product usable lifetimes so short, who wants to pay the extra cost for an over-engineered product ?

If "over-engineered" means it "just works", count me in.

M

''Just Works" is useful. But if it means a metal case instead of a plastic case, I say save the money. Anything that can be done design wise to reduce the manufacturing cost of a product with an expected useful lifetime of less than a year is worth doing.

Plastic doesn't dissipate heat very well.  It also doesn't take too well to mishaps like accidental drops.

hey, you played with settings a bit.
which parameter asic settings page refers to as a stable voltage (I see up to five parameters-vlt1, vlt2, DCL TL and UL-all presumably in millivolts)?
thanks

After the miner runs for about an hour or so I go back and set the starting v under what the lowest displayed on the particular chain. If I limited my psu to say on chain 4 to 180 and v1 and v2 displays .669 - .672 and I am happy with the temps for that chain I would go back and set the starting voltage at .667 just under the lowest displayed for that chain.

Anyone know if there's a port setting to change in CryptoGlance to get the SP20 info to show up? I'm guessing something is not correct as other manufacturer's machines show up and I've seen screen shots on here of someone having it working.

Have you opened the API port by changing cgminer.conf? if not-

SSH into the SP20, /etc/cgminer.conf, change the W:127.0.0.1 to W:0/0 and you should be all set.

Thanks a bunch.  Worked like a charm.

OK, thanks, however, when I do this and save, vlt1 and vlt2 change, so my setting on the settings page becomes either higher OR lower in comparison with lowest between vlt1 and vlt 2. In fact, my starting voltage typically tends to be higher after a while-even when i adjust it lower than stable voltage (lowest of vlt1 and vlt 2 in your description) initially.

If you are trying to limit the hash speed, power draw, or temps then you also have to limit the psu watts for that chain. On all 4 of my SP20's chains 2 and 4 run hottest.

I leave chains 1 and 3 set for 275w on the psu and set my max volt to around 73 - 76. I then use the lower psu setting to limit the power to chains 2 and 4. Once I have them lowered to where I want them and they seem stable I then go back and adjust the starting v for those chains.

When will be the next SP20 price drop ?

I hate to say it, but

3 x ANTMINER S5 BATCH 5  with shipping in my country is   1083.448 USD

3 x SP20 + free shipping is still 1495 USD

I have to agree with the following commentary:"The best way to make money on SP20 was by waiting."

The best way to make money on SP20 was by waiting.

I got one for $814 a week ago (paid maybe 10 days ago), then there was a "christmas" deal few days later for $633 and a couple of days later-a new deal for $500
I expected just to breakeven at best all things considered, but these movements were nothing short of astonishing in speed.
Besides, miner did NOT make $314 in those 7-10 days-barely $100 (even with four days of extra profit due to paycoin rush)
Nevertheless, $500 looks like a good price now, so I am not complaining, maybe will even participate.

My point is this: I am OK with declining prices based on what usually happens (difficulty, product aging, etc), I am less OK with an extraordinary profit margin when as a miner I expect just to breakeven at best-but it is up to Spondoolies, of course, how to market their admittedly good device.

I bought my first SP20 fof 1350 USD (with shipping)+20%VAT  on September 26, 2014 Shipped  Nov 02
I bought my second SP20 fof 875 USD (with shipping)+20%VAT  on November 11  2014 Shipped Nov 27
I bought some SP20 fof 617 USD (with shipping)+20%VAT  on December 17, 2014 Shipped Dec 21
I bought the last two SP20 for 500 USD (with shipping)+20%VAT Shipped Det 27

I have ordered and paid total of 11 pieces SP20

Almost every time the price will drop even before, when I get my miners.
I do not like to buy things, the value of which will fall so fast.

So I ask again .When will be the next SP20 price drop ?
Do Batch 1 buyers have any coupons ?

It is not pleasant, when the seller lowers the price with two months, from 1350 USD to 500 USD

Bitmain gave me 12 S5 coupons, I am still waiting to making decision what to buy.

Would you feel better if ASIC manufacturers increased the prices of their miners?

No offence but that's a bit naive, if a company knew and published when the next price drop would be then no-one would buy they would just wait. Plus the fact they wouldn't be doing price drops unless market conditions required it, they would be maintaining the highest price they could for as long as the market would bear it.

I am so naive, if SP20 buyer must be. All buy, but no one sees that SP20 is still underperformed 1.7 TH/s ± 10%

I only see 11 x  1.7 TH/s - 5%

Only my very first SP20 was 1720TH/s of normal room temperature. Even that only have one day to the first software updates.
I look forward to  software that would allow me back 1.7 TH/s +
