bad news for Monero and Livecoin
https://www.livecoin.net/en/news/view/304

who is right?

So they are delisting xmr without opening withdrawals? Does this means that they are simply cancelling everyone's xmr balance there without any compensation?

They claim they were hacked. Maybe this happened, we really have no way to know. If it did happen, then your XMR balance isn't there, the hackers took it.

They want the Monero developers to cover what they claim to have lost to a hacker, which isn't going to happen even if the hack actually happened and even if it was partially due to a bug in the software, which again we really have no way to know. 1. See above link/discussion about the license terms explicitly ruling this out. 2. If the developers covered claimed losses by exchanges this would open up a vulnerability where any shady exchange could claim to have been 'hacked' and start making claims against the developers. Again, this isn't going to happen.

When it comes to crypto exchanges, follow the ABC rule: Always Be Careful. Do not leave coins on an exchange any longer than necessary for trading. Use only exchanges that you trust not only to not steal your coins themselves but to have the technical competence, experience and processes in place to guard against hacks. Etc.

For those who have lost coins to livecoin, cryptsy, cryptopia, MtGox, etc., etc. you have my condolences but also my suggestion to learn from these experiences and protect yourself better in the future. I very much doubt we have seen the last exchange hacks, 'hacks', and exit scams.

What is really disconcerting about the news item is that Livecoin is insinuating that a Monero developer was probably involved in the exploit. I think their allegations teeter on the edge of of libel. What makes it more grievous is that Livecoin has a policy to freeze a users account if the user posts their allegations on the web. They will demand the user remove any "false statements" from the internet before giving them access to their funds.

To be honest this makes their story less believable.  It's too much information and a bad move theoretically.  They have no reason to come out guns blazing at the devs outside of making their story sound better.

bad news for Monero and Livecoin
https://www.livecoin.net/en/news/view/304

who is right?
My opinion on this story - is not the right exchange. Even if it was really hacked, it was the exchange that should cover losses due to operating profit. Another thing is that things seem to go wrong with Livecoin, I would not trust my funds to this exchange.

From the news on Livecoin.net, they claimed that they cover losses for their customers a few times, and ask for updates to avoid future hacks. They emphasized that they already paid for losses, and they don't have mistakes by delisting coin that might result in future hack and losses for both Livecoin and customers on their platform. However, I still don't know the truth of that news. In fact, which side has mistakes here, Livecoin.net or Monero team?

I like that point on ABC rule.  Cool

They are obviously posting this so they can close the pair without making good on it and hope it will not effect the volume on their other pairs. They are just trying to prolong their scam exchange and steal what xmr they can, i don't doubt they stole it themselfs.

If anyone is displease with how Livecoin is handling the vulnerability exploited of XMR, and believe they are scammers, Please support the flags against them.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;flag=308
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;flag=475

These particular flags were raised by a user who experienced loss due to Livecoin's handling of the Mona 51% attack. However, the thread mentioned also discusses their handling of the Monero matter.

I was making a joke of what would be added to recompiled binaries. Wink

Yes i know, if it looks too good to be true it probably is, but a Monero based privacy tool for other alts like ETH would be awesome,  and maybe one day xmr.to adds a few other coins, like ETH.

Edit, I use xmr.to all the time, anytime I send btc, but for ETH it's hard to remove your history
