All my XCR were on BTER.

So....  I'm totally F'd right?

To be completely transparent, we honestly have no idea. We don't know the status of Lin or if BTER will rebound and allow withdrawals again. But the fact that they didn't enable XCR withdrawals for months, even with a new and completely badass client out, makes me wonder if they didn't care because they knew they were going to be running away soon anyways...

With Lins background and wishy washy attitude as of late (he has been completely different in his communications with us in the last 2-3 months) makes me wonder if he didn't just make a money grab.

Only time will tell and we will hope for the best. This is one of the liabilities and risks you take when keeping money in an exchange and sometimes is the cost of doing business in a market like this. From our perspective, I don't know that there is a whole lot we can do to help as we cannot attribute money to accounts at this point to try to fix it. We have actually requested from BTER internal documentation of email addresses and account balances before (during the last BTER fiasco) and they refused to give us the data to allow us to distribute funds.

We are open to ideas and are here to discuss thoughts or ideas, but right now we are at a loss. I mean 65% of our currency was held at BTER so this may be a huge hit for us in general.

WOW!!! 65%
With so much missing the price is bound to go up. Just my luck  Cheesy

What if you were able to acquire the Crypti balances from BTER from before the hack?
Would that be any help?

I once heard about a blockchain rollback (I think)... Is that an option?

Sorry, I am not a very technical man Smiley

Maybe, by some miracle, BTER actually gives back all the other coins!

Roll back not possible here, because the genesis block was started at Bter for the IPO.  A rollback would be a complete replacement of the genesis block and a fresh restart from block #1.

The reason so much XCR is at Bter, is that people were not removing their XCR from Bter to private wallets.  It seems that people did not like the 1% withdrawal fee that Bter charged for withdrawing XCR.  There was a lot of complaining here about that 1% fee, which is really the escrow fee that Bter charges.  Bter had decided to collect it as the XCR was withdrawn rather than charging it when we converted the XCR tokens to coins in Sept.

There was also the problem that the two other exchanges, Cryptsy and Polo could not keep the wallets running properly and thus were unable to accept or send XCR.

I did get 2500 XCR from Bter to Cryptsy, but soon after that Cryptsy disabled transfers.  I have 1200 of that locked in a  fork from Cryptsy that I was sending to my private wallet for use as a forging node.  After more than 3 months, it si still unavailable, as Cryptsy has not updated to the newest wallet and blockchain.

We are discussing several options, and waiting to see what happens with Bter.  We are not the only coin affected by this.  NODE had almost all their coins and BTC at Bter.

The other exchanges that listed Crypti had problems, right?

What happens when there is a mass Exodus from BTER... Where will people be able to take their Crypti?

Into their own Crypti wallets. We are actively searching for other exchanges, but it seems like there isn't one professional and really secure altcoin exchange on the market.

The exchanges are nothing more than uninsured banks.  They operate on trust.  Depositors beware that your money can disappear at any time.  Dont leave any more money on the exchange than you can afford to lose.  Withdraw all to private wallets in cold storage.

This is the third exchange that has screwed me......... AllCrypt, Mintpal, now Bter.

I think that most volume would likely end up going to Poloniex.

I know, that almost everyone is concerned at the moment about BTER, but what progress has been made on 0.2.0? It's been quite a while now since 0.1.9 has released and we haven't received any updates recently.

v0.2.0 is in testing right now. Last week I made mockups for the client, that means this week our frontend developer can start working. This doesn't take long.

So it all depends (like always) on how long the testing takes and how many bugs will be found. Smiley

There is a clear answer here  Grin
We make a multicoin exchange! Who wants their coins more safe than the coin developers themselves.

Of course I am joking though, the exchange business seems to be one plagued with bad luck.
But you guys are hella good designers. I would use anything you people make  Wink

New website launched: Crypti.me

Many of you already saw it, now it's official. We launched our new website we worked on for so long. It was quite a process, but we think it was worth it.

The beginning made Christine, she made the design of the front, foundation and blog page and delivered it to us around new year. I took over to create the other pages. Vera then proceed to transition them into valid websites, which can be viewed in the web browser. After that Matthew delivered us the texts and Boris made a few changes here and there.

There are still many things missing and will be added from time to time. You guys were desperately waiting for it. Therefore we thought it's better to release it now, instead to wait 2 more weeks. We hope you like it and that you will visit it very often. Thank you very much. Smiley

Faucet goes live again, freshly funded

Litoshi announced it above already, I just want to make it official now as well. The faucet re-launched! Boris did great work, like always. Smiley

There are over 100,000 XCR available (unbelievable!) and you can receive 50 XCR every 12h. We hope you like it.

To the faucet

It just shows the new delegates section in the wallet. As with v0.2.0 we are introducing DPOS and this requires this page (show all active delegates, show all delegates in standby, show your votes). There is not really much to see, we are creating the mockups with balsamiq. Smiley

Make sure you all pay attention to the change in the faucet! It's something we have been pushing for and are happy to be able to offer more availability than what was originally pushed.

The faucet is now 50 XCR every 12 Hours.

We are also hoping to open source it and get a few more rolling so that people can get XCR more ways than just all of the scammy exchanges!

Also keep in mind that if BTER does enable withdrawals, we need to get our funds out ASAP. Not only because they are untrustworthy at this point, but also because voting weight will be assigned in 0.2.0 based on stake in the coin. So you will have greater power voting for delegates by keeping funds in your wallet address. Also, we need to limit the power that the BTER account would have by leaving them high and dry at this point.

No.

Me neither

Doing  little research reveals this:

1) when you send BTC to Bter to your assigned Bter BTC wallet, it is then transferred to the hot wallet: 17o5zDFGNvP5H2iWd7aWbhacwS1HKDE4i9.

2) From the hot wallet, BTC is sent in blocks of 10BTC to the cold wallet: 1M2bv6sypZSp6uAEC9U4Gzvgp6jd29F87e

3) BTC is sent from the cold wallet to the hot wallet in batches of 15 BTC as well, except on 02-14-15 when a transaction of 90 BTC and another of 105 BTC was withdrawn to the hot wallet.  04:23 and 04:24 AM time stamps.

4) 8 minutes later, which is the next BTC block, 7190 BTC were withdrawn  from the COLD wallet.
 https://blockchain.info/address/1M2bv6sypZSp6uAEC9U4Gzvgp6jd29F87e

This could only have happened IF the thief had access to the actual wallet, either on a laptop, SD card, or Memory stick.  Knowing the password to the wallet is useless without physical access.

Current balance information had to be obtained from actually looking at the open wallet, as the theft was accomplished in the next BTC block.  Checking the Blockchain for current balance would have shown the balance before the 90 and 105 BTC withdrawl.

Physical access could only be accomplished two ways:
a) by actual presence at the computer inside Bter's offices.
b) Real-time malware connection to the affected computer.

For method "a", all that is required to complete the theft is a dishonest employee or owner and failure to close and remove the wallet from the computer after the transaction was initiated.

For method "b", it would be necessary for the computer and wallet to have remained powered up, the wallet still open; the computer still online; and for the computer operator not to have noticed that there was mouse and text activity happening on the monitor.

Occams Razor says that the simplest explanation with the least number of assumptions is most often the correct one.

You be the judge.

BTW, check the blockchain and you will see that there is still activity on the Bter HOT WALLET, with a balance of 140 BTC at last check.
