When will GUI ready (finally)? And I am not accepting "Soon" as an answear...
Soon-ish...? The GUI release is imminent, which means it's closer than "soon": "the difference between soon and imminent is that soon is occurring within a short time, or quickly while imminent is about to happen, occur, or take place very soon"I tested it today on Win10 64-bit and it works fine. Some are still having issues running it. It's a beta release, functional, but not finished.

With regards to the GUI...
The official one *may* get a beta this week. As noted in the dev meeting yesterday. Jaxx is 2-3 weeks away. Athan(?) is also working on one. I think there are screenshots on Reddit. During the dev meeting yesterday, a name I've not seen before mentioned that they were interested in creating another.
So we're about to be awash in GUI's.
Just about every single day someone new pops up on Reddit or IRC with an integration idea. Wallets, games, payment processor, new DNM, etc. So keep that in mind. The DNM pumps exposed Monero to a much larger audience - and they're sticking around and working with us.

Tested the GUI earlier today. I see only one very minor issue, where the password prompt window doesn't size correctly. Apart from that, it looks nice. I think a beta will be out sometime this week.

How high do you guys think the price will go when the GUI is out? Sure bugs there are but I am sure they will be fixed as well when discovered. The best way to simply use and give feedback so that the bugs can be fixed IMO.
I mean, when the GUI is out, it is ready for non-ponies and non-fairies (read: normal people) unlike we are apparently. The potential markets are huge and the price potential is even higher because the wealthy bagholders will not bother to sell too cheap if ever.

One question, since you've been testing it how has the windows compatibility been so far... I know that most graphically oriented users will be running some version of windows so, how far back do you go? Like Win 7 or God forbid Vista or XP ? Will it run on Windows Server versions? I'm not advocating for anything in particular at this point but just interested to know. I wish I were a C++ dev so I could have helped but unfortunately you work with what you got... and I'm feeling too OLD to take it on at my age. Maybe when I can retire from my day job when Monero hit's $100, I'd have time!

With all the moaning about GUI we have seen in the last months price should easily sky-rocket beyond ATH... but i 100% doubt that this will happen... as the GUI is not that big of an issue "shorters" like to make it.

What do you think is bigger issue with XMR? Lack of investments perhaps? I mean, Monero's market capitalization is merely around 100 million (give or take. The shorter is just one guy with multiple accounts so it should be easy to overcome if there is someone investing real paper money into it.

Another nice side effect of a GUI is that it encourages people to stop using Poloniex as a wallet.

I don´t even think there is a big issue at all, fundamentals like acceptance, fiat exchanges will come over the coming months and spread further... this will bring marketing without the need of a marketing executive like Dash. Also in hindsight now ( im not experienced in trading ) price has to go up and come down, difference in the coins is just the timescale and event´s or non-events. If Zcash does not take all of the sun ( i doubt it will besides some early hype at the launch ) we will likely rise soon again... maybe beyond ATH when the GUI is stable and shiny, RingCT hit maybe even Multi-Sig works... There is so much to come for XMR : Trezor, Jaxx, paybee out of beta some day all we need to do is be patient

This was discussed in the dev meeting yesterday. It was alluded to that XP would work...but there may be an issue with Windows Server. Some bits of the GUI library that's being used (QT), require hardware acceleration. Most machines built in the last 10 years or so should have no problem with that. But there are occurrences where acceleration is disabled or not available. This is pretty rare though - and I think it may even be possible to work around the QT libraries dependence on it. So it's possible that the first beta's may only work on 98% of all machines. And if you're part of that 2%, the Jaxx wallet may be an option.

Good thing I read this thread regularly, because out of context this is very strange.

Can someone post me a link to the windows GUI build instructions again? I know someone posted it in the past few days, but Ilya's github Readme.md is still missing the Windows instructions/dependencies. Thanks, I tried trawling back pages, but between this and the main thread, I can't find it!

The bigger issue is the killer app portion of XMR but even more specifically it is the XMR killer utility (use case) that seeps into the consciousness of the average bitcoin user. Once that happens and users see that bitcoin is in no way private, that is when the scale tips.
