Keep an eye on the growth of the Monero reddit community: http://redditmetrics.com/r/Monero

It is accelerating and a good price predictor.

Good for them!

I can't wait to hear the butthurt on this one.  Everyone and his little cousin spend a day's school lunch money so they can spamtroll - that's well over half the crowd in there.

It's going to be like listening to Frankenstein's camel stubbing his toe

As noted previously I'm not a day-trader (aka gambler, except for blackjack when I can find a game with a deck cut deep enough to make card counting worth the effort... but I digress LOL) and for the most part I'm strictly just a HODL'er (Aminorex's point re: giving up attempts to TIME the market, word, +1000)

So take my observations here for what they're worth (probably little) but -- it seems to me that XMR has *yet again* done one of these "dollar-based rachet-up by TEN BUCKS" moves... hasn't it?

This has happened now multiple times, from like $10-ish where we were stuck around seven bucks for-frikkin-ever...

then went to $20... sat awhile and we got used to twenty... then to the mid-$30's...

then FluffyGate happened and we went 40-60 but then fall back to stable around $35-$45...

settled down around $45 and boring again for a little while...

and NOW from "steady forty" yesterday we do a big bounce (for no known reason?) to high 50's briefly touching $60 and...

NOW?  Seems to be settling down for a while in middle $50-bucks range.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining ("This Is Fine" LOL) but isn't this just... weird?

Why do you guys think XMR seem to be just racheting-up, based on only ten-buck dollar value and not really correlated anymore with bitcoin or anything going on with crypto in general, or even not really with XMR's own progress in general?  Just seems ODD to me...

IMO all alts are pumping due to no scaling solution in sight on BTC.  With one entity against SEGWIT that owns at least 40% of the hash.  There being enough stress over UASF that it's not happening on Aug 1st and transactions being slow and expensive - it's driving use & speculation to other markets.

The cynical (and simultaneously optimistic) side of me identifies how a well organized market manipulation group potentially operates.

This is happening all the time. And in all coins.
Actually a week ago. There was so many taking about how Monero will raise. That was about same time as BTC crashed to $2000. TO me all looked normal i had no ideas where they had that optimism.
I think it's gonna go UP!

Monero Monero Monero ! Got to love it Cheesy. As this is speculation thread, how big is the chance tot we see 100 this year, 2017?

LOL. price was steady at $42 next 3 days.

Then 2 days latter was so many talking about doom.

Withdrawals have been disabled since what??? Like a week now?

Anyone have any good info on this? (Trollbox told me polo got hacked and all the Monero is gone, but I'm assuming that is just FUD)

Usually is just about opposite what people say.

Problem happens when one group wants to shill and other group wants to FUD. Those are fun to read.

I failed to mention that the interview with Charlie Lee was conducted just prior to LTC being added to Coinbase (it was already listed on GDAX at the time). There was a lot of speculation at the time of that interview around whether or not LTC was going to be added to Coinbase. And Charlie Lee (Coinbase employee and LTC creator) was telling the interviewer essentially what he thought needed to happen before Coinbase would consider adding LTC - mainly they wanted to see good consistent high trading volume on GDAX.

I was simply trying to make the point (probably poorly) that if those are / were the conditions that got LTC listed on Coinbase (according to Charlie Lee). Then Monero will likely need to do the same. Which is get listed on GDAX first, and have good consistent high trade volume on GDAX.

Full disclosure, I've never owned LTC, and except for a few Aeon I mined, XMR is the only coin I hold. I don't even hold BTC anymore. I've been a (happy) XMR bag holder for 3 years now  Smiley

Sure but wasn`t LTCs volume rather shitty in the west after the great downfall of 2013/2014, compared to most other Top10 Coins in average? Afaik the big volume always was from the asian regions eg. China.

Likewise (apart from the Aeon). Real Mustangs don't day trade.

I have made sales in 2016 and 2017, but the bag is still pretty heavy. Latest sale (first in a year) went through in the last 36 hours at my target price point of 52 USD. What a day - Drank Champagne last night in celebration and I'm still smiling. That's me done for a while. Next tentative sale point  - 150 USD.  Cool

Q

Quicken, I remember you from the ole trollbox (may it RIP).

I'm still accumulating but doesn't look like I'll ever hit that dolphin status man. I'm out of BTC and at $55 USD per coin, XMR its getting hard / expensive to accumulate.  Cry

P.S. You should do us lesser fish a favour by distributing more of your stack  Wink

Likewise antw081. Ah yes, the good ole days. Let's see, my first purchase was the sub 0.002 dip in early June 2014. It went ballistic up to 0.01 in 2 weeks after that, and then crashed back down before I'd decided to sell any. NOT a trader (though I did manage that sneaky 1:3 Boolberry trade). Then there was the memorable 'defend 0.004' campaign in July 2014 after the brief spike to 0.01. That didn't last long, LOL. Then two long, long years of grind. I was underwater but kept buying to improve my average buy price. Put in over half my life savings, which worked out eventually (phew). Called myself a Dolphin because I never reached six figures of XMR (damn those 2014 prices! ;-)).

Sold (in hindsight) an annoyingly large chuck of the stack on the up slope of late August 2016. Break even followed very quickly by healthy gain. Sigh of relief.

Cashed out over 15k yesterday (is that not enough?!) but still keeping a healthy five figures for the long haul.  Grin

Interesting.  I tried this and it seems to be working fine.  When I press deposit for XMR it instantly displays the deposit address.

Poloniex withdrawals are working again. Now it will take a lot longer to get my XMR out. Oh well, one could have worse problems.
How long were they down? How frequently do they do this?

Edit: It went through.

IMO all alts are pumping due to no scaling solution in sight on BTC.

Surely you noticed this a long time ago.

The difference is that xmr is almost fit for use.  I can't name a single alternative which meets my criteria (mostly Aristotle's actually) of fitness for use as money.

And if you have held them until today, you have been extremely well rewarded for your foresight and consistency.

So so true but what would be the fun in that? I'd have nothing to bitch about! Cheesy

I think it took another year to get there again and I held for alot longer than that.

Took me 2 days last week and I paid a high fee. Bitcoin is crashing and burning right before our eyes. They better address this issue before all these newcomers decide to actually start using it or moving it off an exchange!
