XMR is currently like to have a base of foundation at about 50-55 usd,
I think there is chance to crawl,
I dont think we will see a big jump until somewhere end of year.
Overall of XMR performance is this coin promising,... it is a good bet to jump here,... I guess.

I started buying the same time as you but I have a problem, I only like to see my Monero balance go UP.

I hear that. Exactly my approach through 2014 and 2015. I'm trying this new thing called balance now. Still over 50 percent of wealth in monero, but not 95!

Any other old timers from 2014 celebrating?

I'm in from somewhere beginning of 2015, i am cheering but not yet celebrating. Party starts when we reach 100 USD. Don't think we will see it anytime soon yet.

I'm from way back too. I used to write the whirlwind missives summary at one point, its since moved on to the dev meetings.

Held from early on brought coins before they went down far enough. Smiley

I joined the fun in 2015.
It's also the same year I registered in this forum.
I still remember the time I get 500 XMR for 1 BTC thru Shapeshift.
I'm also mining (with R 290) that time and get several XMR a day.

Not that much in my bag, though I plan to retire when XMR reach $1000++.  Cool

I am confident it will get there. A lot probably depends on bitcoin short term, but a big Monero adoption story could see $100 overnight. MHODL

Very good timing in hindsight. I expect many will be in position to retire when we reach $1000++  Smiley

Pegasus is probably preparing his spaceship order already.

Definitely, I've seen he's videos.  Shocked
But I seldom see him here nowadays.

And, I observed that we experience price volatility when the duck is posting more often. Cool

XMR price is like dynamite, according to the charts when it is set on fire it will explode, everybody is watching XMR now and waiting for the start of the explosion to enter a position. I think we will have a very nice rally in front of us.

What's the total of this coin?

About 18.1 million before the <1% inflation kicks in (keeping a miner incentive = network security / dynamic block size)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monero_(cryptocurrency)

Currently there are a bit more than 14.5 million already in circulation.

Then there was the memorable 'defend 0.004' campaign in July 2014 after the brief spike to 0.01. That didn't last long, LOL. Then two long, long years of grind. I was underwater but kept buying to improve my average buy price. Put in over half my life savings, which worked out eventually (phew). Called myself a Dolphin because I never reached six figures of XMR (damn those 2014 prices! ;-)).

Sold (in hindsight) an annoyingly large chuck of the stack on the up slope of late August 2016. Break even followed very quickly by healthy gain. Sigh of relief.

Cashed out over 15k yesterday (is that not enough?!) but still keeping a healthy five figures for the long haul.  Grin
Q

Yeah, I remember trying to "defend 0.004" a few times (with the modest few BTC I had), but every time I would get my hands burnt (although its has worked out nicely for me now cause we are not likely to ever see 0.004 again).

0.004 use to seem like a ceiling we could never quite keep our heads above before the August 2016 AlphaBay pump. I think a combination of high inflation and the fact that big traders like Warz would profit take around 0.004 meant we inevitably always crashed back down.

I, (like you) was underwater for most of 2014 to 2016, but kept buying to improve my average. I think the lowest point for me (on paper) was in late 2014(?) where XMR had dropped down to around $0.3 USD which represented something like a 80% lost for me (in terms of fiat) if I had sold then. It wasn't until the AlphaBay pump that I was in the green against fiat and BTC.

I know I should probably divest a bit into other assets classes as I am very crypto heavy right now. But like saddambitcoin, I just want to buy more XMR.

To me, XMR is the spiritual successor to BTC. And at $55 USD per coin, that is still a steal. If only I had more fiat to convert...

I used to have over 4k XMR accumulated since 2014 but now my stash is halved, started celebrating while it was still below 20USD  Tongue
Still can't be happier cos I made all my coins out of thin air, never bought any crypto with fiat, it was just a hobby - lil bit of mining, lil bit of trading, now when I look back 3 years behind I still can't believe what I did  Grin
This year XMR has been so volatile and bullish, just like BTC back in 2012, next year Monero could live trough BTC experience of 2013, it looks kinda same - only better  Wink

Well, when BTC has its peak and starts losing ground, XMR will probably do the same, but i kind of predict an explosion of XMR in Q3 2018  Grin Wink

Come on out old time crew. Quicken is fishing.

LOL I guess maybe I count as "old time crew" even though I was never very 'involved' in XMR much beyond just buying some early on and always planning to HODL as long as necessary...

My first posts on bitcointalk were actually in a MaidSafe thread (I still HODL all my MAID from their crowdsale too) but looking back at post history it seems my first Monero-related thread post was Mid-August 2013: what was XMR price around then?  I believe my initial basis-price for the first few Moneroj I socked away was something like $0.70 cents?  Although it's probably much higher now (probably 10X higher, over $7 by now, I'd guess) as I've added more as XMR has become more successful and stronger... kind of a reverse-dollar-cost-average I guess LOL but at least overall current price is higher than my unit cost by now Cheesy

Anyway, initial buy-in under a buck counts as old-school doesn't it?  Who here has the absolute *lowest* first-buy basis price??

Nice time machine! Those with the lowest first buy price were not the early 2014 Polo buyers, but pre-polo buyers may have got some cheaper than they ever were on exchanges in 2014-2015. My first post here was the day I registered, June 05, 2014, on the Monero announcement thread naturally. Started out mining, but quickly decided I could only get a significant quantity by buying...

Quote
I am not currently a member of an exchange, but have started mining Monero and I'm keen to invest some fiat savings (GBP) too. Ideally, I'd buy from somewhere like coin-hub.co.uk but they don't sell Monero yet (I have sent a request). Can anyone suggest the easiest way to exchange GBP for XMR? Any help appreciated.

Many bought at same time that was June 2014.
My problem was i did not add much in 2015 and early 2016. If i would skip 2014 altogether and buy in 2015 i might celebrate now. But I am sure times for my celebration are still to come. Smiley

Dreaming of a 6 figure XMR number and not calling yourself a Whale is not that realistic. Having 50000 XMR and even less you are considered as a strong Whale.

Ah, had to correct you - Mid-August 2104, in 2013 Monero didn't exist yet - anyway, just noticed there's quite a bunch of us that maybe never contributed anything to this project, yet we're all doing good now, even bragging about how many Moneros we've grabbed for under a dollar and celebrating bit too early  Embarrassed

I  would chip in 50XMR for a special fund - Monero exit scam fund for year 2022 - donations for Monero core dev members and contributors which would be used for them to enjoy life instead of just donating for development (work work ...). Those that made Monero project go this far (and beyond) could also use some donations for crates of finest Barolo wine, wasting everything on roulette table etc ...
I already did something similar for some close friends of mine - over past 6 months I gave away around 200XMR with a time capsule recipe - 50XMR per newborn baby for them to open when it grows up, 5 XMR for birthday but do not open till next birthday ...
Now just imagine how big Monero Exit Scam Fund (MESF 2022) could be by the year 2022 if measured in USD  Shocked
Would be nice to hear from others about this idea, also it would be nice if those funds are managed by a respected member of Monero community or the core Members themselves, I'm just a silly newbie troll after all  Smiley
