So, I am slowly back into the mining game, mostly for the fun with 2 Antminer S9's

However, I am pointing some old hardware for some solo mining Lottery Style.

8 delayedarrow Prospero X1's at solomining.
so... about 800Ghash worth.

What do you guys think my odds are of getting a block within the year ?
1 on 1000 ?

A big FAT 0 chance to hit a solo block withing a year,  unless you are extremely lucky

Yes, if you leave them running they will eventually go down, potentially as low as diff 1. Alternatively it supports the --suggest-diff command line option in cgminer.

Shares don't mean anything when solo mining, just don't worry about it.

Are you sure? I mean (Lord welling) i did happen to find a solution, wouldn't i have to wait to and submit all 4000 shares before it could be verified?

All shares are is a way for you to communicate with the server that you are doing work, and the result of that work is greater than a specific difficulty level.

In a collective pool, your shares submitted are also used to help tally how much work you did in order to sub-divide the block reward among everyone (you did "your fair share").

Since there is no division in a solo pool, the only share that will ever matter is on that contains a solution with a difficulty that is equal to, or higher, than the network difficulty (you only get paid for that share).

The 4000 diff means you need to find a share that meets or exceeds a difficulty of 4000 before the pool accepts it.  To find a block you need to find a share that meets or exceeds current network difficulty which is WAY higher than 4000.  So if you find a share that high the pool will definitely accept it and submit it to the network as a block.

i know the chances are pretty slim, but its not like it will do any better sitting in the attic, gathering dust ...

could you recommend which utility should i use for cpu mining ?
as your cgminer app does not support cpu mining anymore, as far as i've read ...

reading the concepts of ckpool and solo mining, just for trying my luck, got me here.

so you mean to tell me it is impossible for me to discover a block by chance, using CPU mining and solo.ckpool.org ?
knowing there is a teeeeeeny tiny difference between totally impossible and very improbable ?

The chance of finding a block CPU mining is less than one in the number of total particles in the known universe, but more than that, CPU miners are not welcome on my pools as they use up as much pool resource as multi-PH miners for nothing.
