1041  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WANT TO SELL BITMAIN COUPONS on: April 15, 2023, 02:24:20 AM
Escrow needed.  Please write here.

I can escrow the transaction, I have an account on Bitmain ready to receive the coupons, I am an established member in this forum, and I am an admin in the bitmain coupon group on telegram https://t.me/bitmaincoupons

I will need to read the terms of the deal, and the following must be provided.

- The BTC address of the seller and the agreed amount
- The Bitmain account email address for the receiving party

The process goes this way

1- Escrow fees sent to my address.
2- The seller sends the coupons to me, ones received, I will inform the buyer to send the funds to the seller.
2- When funds arrive (by checking on-chain data) I will transfer the coupons to the buyers account.

I bought and sold thousands of Bitmain coupons in the past, things can go wrong, and it's a sort of a hassle escrowing that, so fees will be set based on the transacted amount.

If you agree with my terms, reach out via a PM.
1042  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 273 blocks solved! on: April 15, 2023, 01:47:11 AM
will tack 9 hours on to 31 day rental.

Just in case this P2P hashrate renting becomes a thing in the future, I think there should be better ways to measure that to avoid any troubles between both parties, maybe something like the number of shares (assuming the pool's diff never changes), or maybe by looking at the 7-day average even for 1-month rental, the two parties can check the hashrate on 7 days intervals and if it's within +-2-3% then everything is good.

Some pools keep track of the average monthly hashrate, and some even provide between two dates hashrate, not sure if CK is willing to add something like that, so maybe we should figure something out, I just wouldn't want to see fellow miners starting new accusation topics claiming the other party didn't stick to the contract, I think many things can go wrong with the manual tracking like the one you did.

1043  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin can be made efficient and less energy consuming? on: April 15, 2023, 01:29:44 AM
Critics who oppose Bitcoin always attack the "Large Energy Consumption" part when they do not fully understand Bitcoin mining.

alas, this is because some people think "less energy consumption is better", if you really think so then you need to be against Bitcoin mining, if less is better then Bitcoin mining should be banned, the moment you surrender to the climate activists who want us to use less of everything, you will be forced to oppose bitcoin, it's funny that some members here support the idea of using less power and yet want BTC to grow, you can't have it both ways.

Good on economy? Well, actually there is no product created, your miner can't generate food or create any usable product

Bitcoin mining generates value, value doesn't have to be a tangible product that you can wear or eat, as of the last 24 hours, Bitcoin miners created a value of $27,000,000, it's up to every individual to think that number is useless but their opinion doesn't matter because there is enough appreciation from the free-market that keeps miners doing what they do.

In the making of that 27 million dollars a day, tens of thousands of jobs were created/improved, it's indeed good for the economy in every aspect.
1044  Economy / Reputation / Re: 5 Years, 5000 Merit and 7000 Posts. on: April 14, 2023, 12:54:34 PM
There is a thread dedicated  ".

Oh snap, I did not see that, I will try to delete this thread and post in the thread you linked. Thanks
1045  Economy / Reputation / 5 Years, 5000 Merit and 7000 Posts. on: April 14, 2023, 05:30:19 AM
I just realized that today is my 5th anniversary as a member of the Bitcointalk community, most of you don't know me and probably have not seen any of my posts, but I can assure you that I had a wild journey which I never saw coming, form a random newbie with a silly user name asking some stupid questions, to top 10 most merited user at some point, I don't even recall how all these events played out, not even sure how I managed to write 7000 posts despite being busy most of the time, but shit happens.  Cheesy

My story is probably isn't new, many members built better profiles than mine in a short time, but the thing you need to understand is that it isn't difficult AT ALL to have a good place in this forum, you don't need coding skills or to be able to speak multiple languages, you don't even need to know how Bitcoin actually works, all you have to do is remain consistent and do your best to learn and share knowledge.

I would like to thank everyone who is contributing something to the forum, keep up the good work.

Now a new journey begins, and hopefully, 5 years later I would be able to write another boring story like this one.

1046  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Technical Questions on: April 14, 2023, 05:02:16 AM
In general my ASICs need 5-10 minutes to mine at their full potential after I've power them on but it depends of the firmware.

Ya, it's different from one model to another, in fact, I have several miners that take longer than the others despite having bought them in a single batch, stock firmware is always slower than most custom firmware.

But Braiinos is stealing 2% (not sure about this number but it's the one I think I remember) of your shares as a dev fee...

It's 2% for Antminer S9 and 2.5% for everything that comes after that (S17 and S19 series), but I think the word "stealing" is wrong! They aren't stealing anything, it's the fees they take for their efforts, it could only be called "stealing" if they did not inform you about it beforehand, however, it's clearly stated in multiple places that they do indeed take x% as firmware fee.
1047  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hypothetic question regarding network security after last halving on: April 14, 2023, 04:16:54 AM
Bitcoin's security is directly related to its value, the more value it has, the more people can afford to mine it, and the number of satoshis mined is irrelevant, less block rewards = less supply which in theory should result in more value to be extracted by mining BTC since it's value has increased, in other words:

100k BTC 30k BTC and a block reward of 3.125 BTC is better than 30k BTC and block reward of 6.25 BTC, in other words, if you want BTC to be as secured as it's today with only block fees that amount of fees needs to 6.25 BTC at 30k BTC, if the fees are only 0.25 BTCinstead, then the price of BTC has to be $750,000.

So no block rewards and BTC worth $750,000 is exactly the same as 6.25 BTC block rewards and BTC worth $30,000.

Something else to keep in mind is that if BTC keeps growing the same way, those who have value at stake will be willing to mine it at a loss just to protect their BTC.

With that said it would be best if we make sure that blocks are always full or near full, we don't know how is that going to be achieved or how will people view and use Bitcoin in 70 years, the good thing about this is the fact that it will unfold slowly, so no urgent measures have to be taken, when the time comes, the next generation could be reading our comments and laugh at how we got everything wrong.
1048  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Technical Questions on: April 14, 2023, 03:42:18 AM
If you shutdown your mining rig that consists of 1000 s19 miners

how long will it take since you decide to turn them on until the hash rate is stable on the pool and running?

First, the hashrate needs to become stable locally on the miner itself, most miners go through a warm-up/tune cycle before reaching full hashrate, depending on the miner's model and firmware, this could take anywhere between 1 to 60 minutes, it depends on a lot of factors.

For the hashrate to become stable on the pool, it's a matter of luck and pool difficulty, and whether or not the miners run behind a proxy, but usually 5-10 mins, depends on the pool of course, some of them have 5m hashrate display, some have no less than 15 mins so you can only tell when 15 mins had passed, but rest assured, every share you submit counts even if the chart on the pool page doesn't catch up fast enough.

open the machines > mine 10 minutes > close all the machines

once every 1 hour

what will happen to the machines?

This will probably reduce their lifespan.

Quote
how much will it save in electricity if you shut them down completely and if you just stop mining for 50 minutes

When you shut your gears down, you save 100% of the electricity they use, but then you gain nothing, in fact, you spend more energy by doing so, the warming up, fan check and the rest will consume power for no gain in pool shares, so there is no gain at all, what are you up to anyway?

1049  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin can be made efficient and less energy consuming? on: April 14, 2023, 02:49:04 AM
If you stand on the point of view that "renewable energies are evil"

I don't, enegery is enegery, there is no evil enegery.

Quote
This hypothesis can be debunked actually very easily: take the energy consumption of major industrialized countries over the past decades and their economy's growth:

- The US reached the maximum energy consumption per capita in 1979. It's only going downhill from there.
- The UK and Germany had a double peak in the late seventies and in the early 80s, then it's also going downhill.
- France and Italy had later peaks in the early 2000s, but then also significantly reduced their per capita consumption.

(Source: Our World in Data)

You are looking at the wrong data that fits your narrative, your chart shows "energy usage per person", in the same website you quoted, there is a chart that shows the general energy consumption

demand for energy went from 40,000  TWh to  165,000  TWh in the past 50 years, actually, this is common sense I don't even know why you had to go dig for such information, does the world today use less energy than it did 50 years ago? did we have more factories in the 1950s than we do now?

Quote
The conclusion is: all countries are becoming more efficient in energy use, and it seems to affect the economy positively. Thus the equation is wrong. EOD.

Alas, this is not true, only a few countries managed to grow their economy without increasing their energy usage, mostly those rich countries that discovered national resources where the energy needed for production was less than the economical gain, aside from that, the general trend of power consumption for the whole world is in an uptrend

These are some hard facts, and you don't need to like them, Bitcoin mining increases the demand for energy, and demand for energy is good for the economy, you could argue that it's bad for the climate but that's a different topic, it's is why I asked  (why do you think "less energy usage is better"?), which you still did not answer by the way.
1050  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAN T17 JUST REPAIRED ! on: April 14, 2023, 02:23:27 AM
alas, you still ignored my previous post and failed to post the kernel log in the code tag.

Anyway, do the following

1- Disconnect hashboard 1 and 2 and let the miner run with just board 3.

If it doesn't start hashing

2- Disconnect hashboard 1,3 and leave only hashboard 2.

if it doesn't work

3- Disconnect hashboard 2,3 and leave only hashboard 1.

by performing the test you will get a few answers which we can discuss later on.

How do you know he will not scam you? You should at least use some escrow to secure your money.

Nice offer by the way, for me this is too much hassle , not worth it unless I can make something like 0.0033 btc per petahash / day, If you end up not finding better offers you can reach out to me.

Did you check or replace the control board and PSU? I found the same error from this thread

The kernel log posted here is most likely incomplete, the ECC error is misleading, not sure why the link you posted says they changed PSU and Control board to fix that issue, it can't be both of them, it's likely a bad firmware or a mismatched hash board sitting in the miner, the complete log will reveal more info.

@op, please post the complete kernel log and use the code tag when posting it.

1053  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Luxor Technologies releases LuxOS, the first new custom mining firmware in years on: April 13, 2023, 03:08:20 AM
If I had firmware that made a 100th j pro go from 100th and 2900 watts to 111th and 1149 watts I would be looking to do a private sale for a few million dollars.

So I simple do not  think they are good.

note I disabled links

I read the docs, it could be another distribution of Vnish and not something made from scratch?, they also charge 2.8% fees which is the exact same fee charged by Vnish on the S19 models, let us see how things unfold for them and whether or not they are going to comply with GPL license given that Luxor is pretty much a large company that sits on a ton of hashrate.

1055  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin can be made efficient and less energy consuming? on: April 13, 2023, 01:32:41 AM
Of course "less energy consumption" is better. Smiley

This is what you think, it isn't necessarily correct.

Quote
Your argument makes not really sense, because avoidable energy consumption is not correlated with "job creation" or "economy strength". Jobs can be created even with technology that leads to a lower energy consumption (i.e. creating more efficient automobiles and housing with less heating requirements).

The only way there is a correlation is the other way around: you can of course create jobs which lead to a consumption of energy. But in Bitcoin mining this is not the case: mining farms are mostly automated.

Let me explain myself again, demand for energy increases the value of the economy and has many benefits including more jobs, it doesn't matter what that enegery is used for, the making of that energy itself does that, when you consume a certain amount of energy, someone has to extract that energy, when you fire a gas plant to use for mining or anything else, you are adding value to the economy, the power plant is going to make money and hire people, the company that extracts gas is going to have more jobs, the pipes company is going to prosper, all the way to the chefs who make food for everyone involved, and every piece of value that was extracted in the process of making that engery is going to recirculate back into the economy,  the barbershop next door is going to start making more money because the guy who works as a personal driver for one of the engineers that maintaine the main turbine in that power plant is now making more money and can afford to have a weekly haircut.

I don't know how less energy consumption is better, it's against the basics of a simple economy, this theory of yours only existed when climate activists got the means to talk about how we should ration power demand.

Quote
I'm convinced the strongest economies will be those with the most sustainable and efficient energy consumption habits.

More energy = better economy,  energy consumption is directly related to how much the country makes, poor countries use less energy and the opposite is correct, if your demand for energy is decreasing it means your economy is losing strength and value.

Quote
They have less dependencies on other countries (see the problematic relation between Russia and Europe), less needs for subsidies in the case of high energy price bubbles, less import costs, etc.

And now what? they import the same stuff from Norway and the U.S. at 2-3x the price, and not buying gas from Russia did not solve any issues for Europe, Europe has a large economy that needs a ton of power which is only possible through means of traditional power generation.

Quote
There is one positive effect of Bitcoin mining which can be beneficial and has been cited: if they use mostly renewable sources, then that can help to upscale renewables equipment production, e.g. the solar cells and wind turbines industry.

So you do agree that demand on energy upscales production, why is that true for wind turbines that kill nearly a million birds yearly in the U.S. alone, and it's not true for gas, oil, and coal?

Excuse me? Shoot me a private message and i will show you. I almost suspect you must be american judging by how ignorant you are.

You are the one offering an extraordinary cheap service, it is on you to prove it, I do not think it is my job to do so.

And as for me being both American and ignorant, there is at least one wrong assumption in those two.

.02 ? Where is your facility located?

I'm real curious how you could manage to strike a deal like that , because I haven't heard anything like that in a long long time.

I highly doubt he is telling the truth, 2 cents per kWh is most likely a lie, with all due respect I'd be very cautious.

As for your S19 pro, it will be pretty hard to find that model, most models that are floating for sale nowadays are S19j pro which is pretty much the same anyway, I don't sell Antminers but I think the price for S19j pro delivered to the TX including tax would be in the $2000 range, if you can't find any reliable source, reach out to me I'll try to recommend someone trusted.

1059  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin can be made efficient and less energy consuming? on: April 12, 2023, 01:45:45 AM
deliver a better security/energy consumption equation.

You are going to need to define what "better energy consumption equation" actually means!  is "less" better? I could argue that more is better, economies grow and prosper due to demand and not lack thereof, Bitcoin's need for energy creates demand, creates jobs, and overall strengthens the economy in a lot of ways, so the more energy Bitcoin uses the better for everyone.

can you also tell me how to bid correctly? and what's the difference between limit and speed? because sometimes I see the ehs speed lower than the limit does that mean this miner have some hard or software failures?

It seems like most of your recent questions are related to "how to use Nicehash", it would be great if Willi or someone else who uses the platform very often can write a topic explaining how to use the service, it's pretty simple but the fact that you have to ask all these questions suggests that many people struggle to use it but are afraid to ask.
