1161  Economy / Economics / Re: Recession Highly Likely on: April 09, 2023, 09:58:37 AM
I feel like the more the voices (from government and banks' area) telling we won't have recession the higher the chances we're very close to that.
There are chances to still avoid it, but.. I don't know.. right now the situation looks ugly.

On the other hand Tytanowy Janusz had in February a pretty interesting point we are already in recession. Unfortunately I am not knowledgeable enough to have a smart enough discussion on that.
1162  Other / Meta / Re: AI-generated post discussion thread: how to identify & report on: April 09, 2023, 09:32:27 AM
I do like the idea, but think that in most cases it will not good enough for using beyond doubt.
Of course, there are exceptions:
* sudden change in the quality (and fluence) of the user's posts
* sudden change in how knowledgeable somebody is in various fields

And here there can be a doubt too between use of AI or account changing hands, for example, however both should come at least with red tag.

... Maybe this new development would also trigger equivalating the gravity of plagiarism, use of AI and buying accounts, to make everybody's life easier.

----
I like rat03gopoh logic, but that will probably not work on long term (AI will start writing even more human, the users will learn to edit such keywords, ...) and I'm not sure it could be proven (although I totally agree it's unnatural to talk here like that).
1163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin was founded in the olden days!! on: April 09, 2023, 09:18:59 AM
what if Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies existed In the old days?

That would have been absolutely great because it means in those old days they would have been also having:
* electricity
* advanced (!) computers (including memory, storage), programming languages
* internet

That means absolutely everything would have been evolving much faster, there would have been much less diseases and wars. Plus slavery would have been ended at least 2000 years earlier.
On the other hand, we may be now already suffocated by plastic waste, much worse than we are now.

PS. My answer meant to also show how pointless your question was.
1164  Other / Meta / Re: Who was your April fool Best? on: April 09, 2023, 09:09:20 AM
Imho the clear winner is Royse, although I am sure he has made a few more enemies with that.

The interesting fact is that his prank could be seen also as a lesson, since it contains a few things we keep warning about:
- an offer too good to be true
- a campaign with rather strange requirements // something people keep ignoring although we keep warning people to read before jumping to campaigns
- a warning to not be to serious about earning/making a living off signature payouts

I know, the fact it's about a reputable campaign manager (OK, some may throw stones to me because of this statement) made people ignore the warnings and jump in. But hey, it was April the 1st!!

A worthy mention could go to dkbit98's list of April 1st HW offers thread.

I'll also add Smartvirus' attempt too as a mention. Not too bad.

I was not impressed this year by Theymos' idea, it was far too obvious. Maybe the fact I lacked the free time I used to have "helped" too. Although I didn't know the context on LoyceV statement on leaving; that one was actually cool.

Sadly I've missed satoshi's "I am back" merits. That was pretty cool. Shame it was not advertised more.
1165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WorldCoinIndex.com - Cryptocurrency price index on: April 08, 2023, 08:55:26 PM
I don't know if you guys are handling the ads directly or just use an ad company, but for my (unpleasant) surprise I've seen today on WorlCoinIndex an ad for 1xBit. If you guys don't know what is this about just search for 1xbit scam.

Maybe you consider doing something about this...
(I've seen that OP account is inactive, but maybe you still read this topic)
1166  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: is it necessary to mix Bitcoin that you bought from an exchange? on: April 08, 2023, 08:11:22 AM
I don't see anything biased in your statement and as a matter of truth, you nailed the entire point

While I do know that I'm right (heh Smiley), let's be honest: we both wear advertising for mixers and this means that for anybody looking at this we may be considered biased, no matter how correct are our statements and how valid are our points. That's why I preferred to just say it.

What triggers my question here is because of an incident that happen to someone around my place some time ago, he traded some bitcoin with an unknown scammer on a decentralized exchange got the bitcoin converted into fiat and transferred it to his bank account.

But a few days later his bank account was flagged by the authority and he was ultimately arrested and upon investigation that was when they discovered that the Bitcoin he bought from the exchange in a tented Bitcoin and the proceeds of a scam that have been under investigation.

Now the young trader who is also an undergraduate is forced to face punishment for unknowingly trading with a scammer, we have many of such incidents in the p2p marketplace, so to be at a safe side, one will need to be extra careful by mixing the coins to avoid possible trace and link to your bank account.

Sad story. I think that one safe approach is to use a completely different bank's services when doing crypto. And it's best if that bank is crypto friendly and has a bit of knowledge on the matter.
I guess that the arresting part is overkill and they don't have anything real for pressing charges, still unpleasant.
On the other hand there are services that don't like mixed coins, which one will have to learn to avoid if he has mixed money (or, actually, even if he didn't mix; those services do deserve a boycott).
1167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it wise to spend your Bitcoin on: April 07, 2023, 07:31:04 PM
Most persons purchase  most items using Bitcoin transactions I am of the opinion of hodling instead of spending pls is that a positive mindset?

The important part is to invest money you afford to lose or keep locked for longer than initially planned. The point is that while the price is bound to keep rising on long term, there's no guarantee for it and, even more, on short term it can easily reach the point the price is much lower than you'd like to see.

I've bought sats, earned sats, spent sats. If I look back I would have a good situation by now if I would have kept them all, but I didn't. I go by the "spent some, kept some" policy. Indeed, if I look back maybe it was not the best one. But even if Bitcoin price will be tomorrow absolute 0, I'd be still on profit. And this helped a lot my morale during the past crypto winter.

There are pluses and minuses, as you see, in each approach. You should do as it suits you best.
1168  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: I need advices and support to organize my first contest with 2 nices prizes on: April 07, 2023, 06:56:48 PM
You can let people pick a number (the most common range being 00-99, but there are more options too, it ultimately depend on you) like here, or you can do as it was discussed in this failed giveaway (you can probably start reading from here) and used in this proper giveaway.
1169  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: is it necessary to mix Bitcoin that you bought from an exchange? on: April 07, 2023, 06:40:23 PM
In the quest to remain anonymous and maintain privacy without a trace remain our utmost aim in the cryptocurrency industry, what do you think about coins that you bought from the exchange in this discussion our focus will be on a decentralized exchange.

A proper decentralized exchange doesn't need your ID. Of course, since you had to send fiat in a way or another ... somebody might have enough info to link the coins to your identity.
In most cases it's not a big issue, but the rule is that if you are concerned about privacy issues, whenever you're in doubt, better mix.

My statements may look a bit biased, but I think that you'll see the truth in them.
1170  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Looking for feedback on: April 06, 2023, 05:42:06 PM
By harnessing blockchain protocols we allow our web3 community to fund the development of real-world assets all through our self-serve platform

Far too many buzz-words here. I also tend to believe you are trying to get a yet-another-token project advertised under the appearance of this kind of questions.
If you truly believe in your idea, why don't you try to fund it and develop it, at least until the stage of proof-of-concept? Because if it's that good, I'm sure you'll get proper funding afterwards.
1171  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: April 06, 2023, 05:32:11 PM
The logo has the bitcoin whitepaper included within the kraken emblem:

source: https://twitter.com/krakenfx/status/1641847931467595779

This is truly impressive! Interesting idea on the whitepaper, this will bring them some more advertising too  Wink
Nicely done by Kraken and nice finding guys!

Now.. let's see if Williams will start making again top F1 cars before their brand gets sold and replaced...
1172  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Please be aware, Bibox exchange is scamming people! on: April 06, 2023, 05:07:05 PM
Still I'm ignored and those thieves don't give my money back!

Since all you've got were basically automated answers, I think that the thieves have never actually seen your messages. They simply don't care.
Sorry to say, but I think that unless you're planning to sue them, you better move on and don't look back. At least you'll remain sane. And next time research as much as you can before you send money to various platforms. Now you know for sure that most of them are scam.
1173  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to use google authenticator on bitcoin wallets on: April 05, 2023, 06:39:41 PM
Google authenticator may prevent anyone from accessing your account.

It can happen only if the server where's your account or your phone/device has the time a bit off. Usually syncing the time of your phone with an atomic clock fixes that.

But how can you use a third party software on your bitcoin wallet, op your title doesn't make any sense.

Far too many people still think that the web sites offering them an account with user and password and allowing them access to a wallet are actual wallets (and hence they also call those services "wallets").

Also, if you use google authenticator google has the chance to get access to your software. I don't usually use this, but if I am forced to use the authenticator in some place then I use it.

While it's pretty unlikely to happen, you do have a point: google authenticator is closed source so "there may be dragons" in there.
Still, I don't understand why do people still advertise and use that obsolete piece of software when there are better options - like Aegis (it was already said, but I doesn't hurt to emphasize it) - which would be open source and also offering backup/restore of the data.
1174  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets April 1st Special Devices on: April 05, 2023, 06:30:51 PM

While Trezor staxxx looks like a weak attempt to mock the name of one competitor product, the fridge part is nice.

But the Passport Stun looks much more convincing! Cheesy I do like it Cheesy

The Ledger Nano X is really not that great, especially for that kind of money…

It's No-No X, just go and read again. With the continuous list of problems of those, they are a perpetual April 1 (bad) joke. I think that this was OP's point.
1175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: signed message on: April 05, 2023, 06:22:00 PM
Signed message is something else - it's a simple and plain text plus a signature plus an address it was signed with. This will prove the message's authenticity, you can check in this thread if you're curious.

OP_RETURN is nice, but the length of the data is very limited (80 bytes). Of course, you can add multiple OP_RETURN to one transaction.

Another option I've seen was to create a bunch of burn addresses (addresses that together can build a long sentence and since they're burn addresses they're easy to obtain) and send some (few!!) sats to those addresses in a transaction carefully created to have those outputs in the correct order. Keep in mind that any money sent to burn addresses are lost forever.
