1181  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: SINBAD MIXER Bitcoin Price Prediction Challenge on: January 30, 2023, 07:33:13 PM
As per my finding, 10 GMT the price was $23,203.06

I wish you're right  Cheesy
But, as I said from start, most probably only the price Sinbad.io official account will find/write will actually matter.
So let's just learn some patience... (all of us)
1182  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: New Way of Scam: Illegal use of KYC accounts on: January 30, 2023, 04:19:37 PM
1. Please learn how to make your images smaller. Plus, you can put them one next to another if you use spaces instead of new line.
2. This is not a new scam per se. There are now and then "job offers" for people who don't understand that giving out KYC and basically becoming "money mule" can easily end up with high taxes to pay, fines and even jail time.

The forum is full of signs to be careful about the KYC data. Some will read, some will always ignore...
1183  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Thinking of separating my holdings into two physical locations. on: January 30, 2023, 01:59:52 PM
One drawback I see is that if the house burns down I would lose everything I manage with one HW, but well, that risk I also had now, having 100% of the management of my holdings in one site.

That can be addressed too. Instead of saving your backup seed(s) only onto paper, if the amount of funds worth it you can also save onto steel - from CryptoSteel Capsule to Willi's steel plate or, if you want it cheaper or in a way that doesn't draw attention, then onto washers.
1184  Economy / Economics / Re: Misconception of selling at premium in Nigeria on: January 30, 2023, 12:09:05 PM
I've been reading those news for some time now and was a bit puzzled because the things didn't seem to add up.
So thank you for clearing this up, now it makes sense  Smiley
1185  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: SINBAD MIXER Bitcoin Price Prediction Challenge on: January 30, 2023, 12:00:24 PM
Bitcoin now have a price on coinmarketcap at 10:00 GMT to be $23,566.37..

By my knowledge the price at 10.00 GMT was much lower than what you're telling.
So let's just wait for the game organizer (sinbad.io) come and tell more.

If there are still free spots, here I am. If there aren't, no biggie. I was not sure I'll have time to try this out, that's why I didn't post earlier.
Hi NeuroticFish, we still have slots left and we're happy to let you review the Utopia. I'll send you a personal message once the team send the 5 CRP.

Thank you. Meanwhile I'll (slowly) start checking this and that, basically the things that don't require CRPs.
1187  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [Tutorial] BlueWallet - Bitcoin Wallet Discussion on: January 30, 2023, 10:49:17 AM
Did anybody use BlueWallet with LN? I've been just researching these days on it and I've seen today a pretty ugly post about it on Reddit (claiming that very often he cannot send out transactions).
So, is anybody around here using BlueWallet for LN often enough to say a few words on it?
1188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-ready linux distro on: January 30, 2023, 10:26:30 AM
I know Tails has Electrum but it doesn't have Bitcoin Core. It also has a ton of stuff I don't need and Electrum is always outdated.

I'm not sure I understand your point. Installing a new Bitcoin Core is usually not enough. And I'm not sure you'll want to download the whole blockchain via the hotel's network (or WiFi).
And getting and installing Electrum and Kleopatra takes, what, 1-2 minutes?

I'll extrapolate what you said about Tails: any iso you'd have, it's more work than usefulness, since the things will soon get outdated. Plus there will be a trust issue.

Get with yourself a HW, maybe some paper notes spread here and there with the seed backup and you'll be fine. If you need more, just get your laptop with you, with everything already installed.
1189  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [ASK] Why can't i claim the faucet at Bestchange? on: January 30, 2023, 09:45:36 AM
Sorry if my question is a dumb question, but i'm trying to earn my first few satoshis. I have created my first wallet on Electrum and LoyceV has verified it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.msg61679453#msg61679453

I tried to get my first few satoshis on the Bestchange site from the faucet they offer, but after i completed the captcha, the following words appeared "The entered Bitcoin address is invalid". The question is, why did this happen? do they not provide faucet anymore? if so, why is the faucet feature still available there? i've searched for their announcement topic, but i can't find it to ask this issue in a more appropriate place.

I've remembered something the days I've wearing BestChange signature and I've tried out.
Your wallet is most probably a modern, SegWit (bech32) wallet with bc1* addresses. Well, BestChange faucet doesn't accept those.
However, I've made a test and it works just fine with legacy (1*) addresses. Probably it'll also work with SegWit compatible addresses (3*).

So if you want to use that faucet you'll need to learn to make yourself one more wallet, which this time will need to be either Legacy, either SegWit compatible.

Edit: if you want to create a Legacy wallet's seed for Electrum, you go into console and type

Code:
make_seed(128, "", "standard")

Then you'll make a new wallet off this seed.

No-coiners: Strike

Bitcoin newbies: BlueWallet

Regular users: Phoenix Wallet, Breez Wallet, Blixt Wallet

Advanced users: run your own node Smiley

1191  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tether and BUSD and usd inflation for long term savings? on: January 29, 2023, 10:08:07 AM
Actually my spot is like half btc and half usdt/busd . So I already invested btc. What i meant is that currently the btc price is went up. So I dont want to purchase btc from higher prices. What Im trying to do is making a balance between volatile and stable coins to protect my assets. But I scare of the usd inflation bcz of long term. Maybe I have to wait BTC to goes down again and buy or withdraw my tether to bank account and purchase gold or stocks etc...

Your expectations and my expectations on (short term) bitcoin price are completely different. Clearly one of us is wrong, time will tell which one of us.
Imho the price didn't go up that much.

I understand that you are scared of inflation. But you're also afraid to take risks in investing. This being said, you're in a deadlock/no-go situation. I mean that there are 2 possible directions and you don't want neither of them. So.. I am not sure what you are expecting to find out...
Do you want us tell you "buy bitcoin, it will certainly go up from now on"? We cannot do that, we don't have crystal globes. Our expectations is one thing, reality may or may not go accordingly.

1194  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tether and BUSD and usd inflation for long term savings? on: January 29, 2023, 08:43:05 AM
Hi
I am newbie about saving investments on my private wallets and some market wallets (binance etc.).
I have BTC, Tether and BUSD in my wallets. I dont want to risk it with buying btc and any other coins. Sometimes I withdraw usdt and busd by converting to my own domestic currency.
But holding money with usdt and busd is also has risks and plus usd inflation devalues the money over long term.
So, what do you suggest for me?

I don't like coins like USDT or BUSD. Such coins have 2 problems:
1. They are just as much eroded by inflation like the normal USD
2. They are issued by private companies and this sector is not properly regulated; so you have to trust those companies they'll keep their word. As bitcoiner I was taught to not trust individuals / companies (plus the fact you keep your coins in centralized exchanges' pockets poses another risk).

So you are under even higher risk than holding USD and also have your money eroded by (USD's) inflation. Not a good deal imho.

What I suggest? Especially since you don't want to invest into Bitcoin I have no suggestion for you. But no matter, I don't like to tell people where to spend their money, they have to decide for themselves.
If the money you're talking about is a lot, then usually a mixed bucket of investment vehicles is the key - bitcoin, real estate, gold, stocks, bonds - to allow your money grow (what you lose from one going down you may gain from another one going up). But if you have that much money you better hire somebody handle all this instead of asking from random people over the internet.

1196  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: invest in bitcoin or altcoin? on: January 28, 2023, 09:34:14 PM
I'm confused, should I invest in bitcoin or other coins?

In my experience the number of altcoins that worth it on long and very long term is almost 0 (compared to bitcoin!).
Also, especially as you are newbie and bitcoin is also not easy to master, I think that you better start with bitcoin alone and, in some 2-4 years you can maybe think on altcoins this the gathered experience.
With Bitcoin too you have to pay attention where you buy the coins from and how you keep them safely (if you are not technically inclined, then investing into a hardware wallet should be one early step).

Keep in mind that you should not invest money you don't afford to lose.
1197  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Looking for Help with transaction that never showed. on: January 28, 2023, 09:25:00 PM
Your skills in hiding the address are not great. You could have been simply paste your address to make our task a little easier.

You've received 0.00662557 with transaction a20d98e9e5d0a83bca00de0995b790dfc15b07ef1a9577f1f6496825fab92d89
The whole amount was sent away with transaction 83cda9ade4d168840d4cd4101debb7027e621d15df2d43c72513b5faa89238e4

The following things are strange:
* you don't know what has happened with your money
* the send away tx has a quite large fee (106 sat/vByte, 4.60$ in fees!)
* the send away tx was confirmed in the same block as the input tx

My conclusion is that your wallet is compromised, somebody else has scripts watching your wallet and steals your money.
I don't know if your device is also compromised, it can also be the case.

Make sure you stop using this wallet (you have no other funds on it, right?) and the new one you generate you do it safely on a clean device.
Also you should consider buying a hardware wallet...

In case it helps, I've found that one reason for removing builder keys from main branch is because they are (or should be) available on key servers:

1199  Economy / Services / Re: Cloud storage Space accepting bitcoin on: January 28, 2023, 02:21:44 PM
Can you mention the name of those sites where you have those free accounts for over 10 GB ? That might be helpful for me.

As I said, one is Dropbox (after the newbie steps and referrals). Also I said that the other had an early days offer; afaik is no longer for free, although I've found it very reliable over years and I have over 50 GB there: it's called Tresorit.

So unless you want to abuse Dropbox to get to at least 7.5-8 GB, you will have to look for new cloud services emerging and offering promotions.
Edit: a quick google search gave me this list, maybe it's not a bad idea to try out some of those (just make sure you read the minuses first).

Somewhat on this same topic I was eyeing the option for long term backups done on AWS Glacier systems (backups I hope I will never have to retrieve), but I didn't manage to fully understand what are the complete costs, so I didn't try that for now.
1200  Other / Off-topic / Re: My story and where it is now..... on: January 28, 2023, 11:24:36 AM
After the previous news I was so angry ... I am overly surprised by these news.

Good news/Bad news type update IMO. Great news that I no longer have to get a heart for now, but bad news or I should say mixed feelings because I had to sit in this hospital for nearly a month and semi wasted my time. I have so many questions. How was I so sick they needed to get me to status 2 and try to get me a heart? How did my heart suddenly decide to work? What does this mean if I get worse? Will I have to go through the work up process again? Will I stay on the list now? Just all kinds of stuff running through my head.

It's good that you have such questions. This means that you'll be more careful - with everything - and also hopefully make you ask a second (maybe also third) opinion, preferably from doctors that will give you their opinion instead of just reading what you've got here.
Medicine is not as evolved as we like to think and also not all doctors are equally qualified (or think the same). You'll most probably have to research a little more on this...

Like the saying, hope for the best, but prepare for the worse. I really hope that the worse has miraculously passed, but let's make sure it's so.
