1221  Economy / Speculation / Re: What happens next if Bitcoin drops to zero? on: January 26, 2023, 09:17:37 AM
1. Will Bitcoin ever fall to zero someday?
2. What happens if it ever falls to zero?

Your logic is faulty imho, sorry. And I will tell you how I see it.
If ever (yes, the chances are less than slim, but still) Bitcoin falls to 0, that will be the result of something, not the trigger to something. It would be the result of people losing interest, maybe because of some error we cannot foresee, maybe because something much better was created.
So the answers would be:
1. Most probably no.
2. Nothing special. The relevant things have already happened by then.
1222  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Be careful with saxydev; he is a possible scammer on: January 26, 2023, 09:11:50 AM
I am going to donate % of Bitcoin I receive from saxydev to randomly selected members who wrote in this topic before this post, so we can have nice party time  Cool

Come on, you didn't realistically expected him to pay, didn't you?
And, as Loyce said, is somewhat a gray area there. So imho it make more sense you just tag him properly instead of pursuing a flag, since a tag is clearly your opinion.

I don't want to be one of his customers, clearly, since whatever he tells today may not stand tomorrow, but, again, that's not the material for a flag.
1223  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need help updating 11yrs old wallet on: January 26, 2023, 08:58:19 AM
I will only add to what o_e_l_e_o already said that imho best would be if you make a separate/safe backup of the wallet file and store it safely before doing anything else (including upgrading Bitcoin Core).
1224  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The one thing I still don't get about crypto and Tax on: January 25, 2023, 03:42:00 PM
Why the hell are they using the word " its unregulated " as an excuse but still take money from people?

Grin next time a politician comes asking you to vote for him, as him exactly this.
You will most probably get a non-answer consisting in 1000-words of utter bullshit, but it should be fun.

My answer is: because politics is one, reality is another and all governments need money, no matter what.
1225  Economy / Services / Re: Gazeta's Escrow Service on: January 25, 2023, 03:34:29 PM
...* Always use messages signed with your address and ask the same from the parties of the deals. Make sure the parts are aware that only such signed messages are meaningful. Impersonation is a big risk in your business. ...

Newbie question: What kind of messages does this refer to exactly, do you mean messages and PMs on this forum? If so, sign how, is there a SMF or forum specific mechanism for that, and how do I prove my public key, if it's going to be safer than my forum login?

Sorry for my ignorance Smiley

I've said it, but it seems that you've ignored the most important part. Bitcoin allows signing a message. If you own a bitcoin wallet you can sign a message with one of the addresses of that wallet (actually, better said, with the private key of such an address).
So best is that all parts of the deal have bitcoin addresses staked (you'll need to learn to sign a message, you'll need to also take a look onto this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.new#new ) and sign their deal related messages from those addresses (maybe also stating "current" date/time).

So no, it's not a SMF mechanism, it's a Bitcoin mechanism we also use for proving ownership of bitcointalk accounts in case of troubles (this topic can be informative too: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5436734)
1226  Other / Meta / Re: [ASK] Does this forum really have its own wallet platform? on: January 25, 2023, 03:10:41 PM
I just banned it. Haven't seen this scam before but I'm sure they will use alts to try do the same.

At least we can hope that maybe the alts won't be so old accounts (unless hacked and/or bought), hence they'll be much less credible.
1227  Other / Meta / Re: How can I prevent my account from being hacked as newbie on: January 25, 2023, 02:24:26 PM
As a newbie in bitcointalk.org what is the best way to prevent membership account from being hacked. Account hacked can be the most painful occurrence any member will experience in this forum. What are the ways to recover an account if eventually it gets hacked. I just want to know to do things right.

1. Learn to securely make yourself a bitcoin wallet.
2. Learn to sing a message with a bitcoin address of yours.
3. Stake your address and message (look for the style, make sure your message contains user name and date) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.new#new
4. Keep that bitcoin wallet safely (offline); in case of problems you'll need to sign another message from that same address.
1228  Other / Meta / Re: Why as a community we are not active on Youtube? on: January 25, 2023, 02:17:05 PM
I think that a more impressive approach is CZ buying a big bunch of shares at Forbes (iirc), hence maybe allowing him watch over what they're publishing....

If you believe in CZ then I have nothing to say.

All I've said that his move is more impressive than what you think a bitcointalk YouTube channel would achieve. I certainly don't understand what you'd expect from putting our work onto Google's servers, where they can censor at will, hence allowing only what suits them best. Do you really think that those truly interested won't find this forum?!?!

And about believing him or not... the fact that you are jumping to conclusions like this tells a lot...
1229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Today my client became the largest Bitcoin ATM company in the world! on: January 25, 2023, 02:12:09 PM
I am not a software developer, I am in sales for a telecom company and we provide internet services via SIM cards and IOT routers for the kiosks. Bitstop was actually my first client

So it's the client of the company you're working for, not actually yours, or the client of a company you own...
Don't take me wrong, still a nice achievement, but much less important than what I first thought... I was even wondering how comes you're still here, instead of enjoying margaritas...
Still, congrats!
1230  Other / Meta / Re: Why as a community we are not active on Youtube? on: January 25, 2023, 02:04:34 PM
We need a mechanism to stop this nonsense from mainstream media. We as a community should come up with an idea to counter the mainstream media and I think an official channel of Bitcointalk which is also active should be on Youtube as a start.

So your solution for countering mainstream media is... to use mainstream media channels.
Well, for your surprise, bitcointalk does have a YouTube channel, see discussion in this topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5351302.0
It's a fun channel though, hence probably not what you'd expect.

I think that a more impressive approach is CZ buying a big bunch of shares at Forbes (iirc), hence maybe allowing him watch over what they're publishing....
1231  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I might be wrong about this but I need to know on: January 25, 2023, 12:42:02 PM
Are people still renting cloud computing Power to mine Bitcoin? A brother from another mother told me this and I said its impossible because I knew they are not profitable anymore, I might be wrong, who knows? That's why I need to ask fellow bitcoiners on this forum.. Is this still possible today? Where not even 20TH is no more profitable, or people are doing it illegally? Because the way he hyped this I am having a second thoughts maybe its illegal.

Mining bitcoin is not possible on CPU or GPU. This being said, one cannot meaningfully mine bitcoin on cloud computing / AWS like machines.
I don't know how is it for altcoins too, some can be mined with CPU/GPU and then converted for bitcoin, but you may want to ask about that on the altcoins area.
I don't think it's legal (the cloud website might kick you out) or it may not worth it (too expensive), but I don't know.

On the other hand, beware of cloud mining websites. Those are plain scams.
1232  Other / Meta / Re: [ASK] Does this forum really have its own wallet platform? on: January 25, 2023, 12:28:53 PM
Thanks for the quick response. Before, i thought that was an important part of this forum. Ok, i will report the PM now. But, why is there no negative trust on the account? it makes it seem as though the message and platform are legit.

If one is not reported and not caught... no way the people would know and tag him.
And after a report like this... I would expect that account gets punished in a way or another, or even banned.

However, as already said, after this topic of yours, that account will most probably become red too. got red too. I've just taken care of that.
1233  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How bitcoin supply can be more than 21 million on: January 25, 2023, 12:22:22 PM
is it can happen can we trade just numbers

On any centralized exchange you're trading just numbers. Those are real coins only at depositing and at withdrawing, when they are visible on the blockchain. All the rest is numbers in the exchange's internal database.
1234  Other / Meta / Re: [ASK] Does this forum really have its own wallet platform? on: January 25, 2023, 12:15:48 PM
Hi everyone, i'm Pandorak and a newbie user in this forum. After registering an account yesterday, i logged in today, and got a private message about an intra-forum wallet. I got this private message from bvalis who claims to be a Moderator for this forum.

Here's the message he sent:

Quote
Welcome to our forum
My name is Mike I am a moderator of bitcointalk site
If you have any questions you can always write to me.
I advise you to read rules for newbies and also install our new intra-forum wallet to receive profits

https://[PHISHING LINK REMOVED]/

Have a nice day and have a nice talk!
______________________________________________________________________________
Regards, forum team

Is this something legit or a scam? Please let me know. If this is a scam then it would be useful for awareness for newbies like me.

No, that's not a legit wallet, most probably somebody has tried to scam you.
The usual way to handle this is to report that message.
As a rule of the thumb, always be wary of unsolicited private conversations. In most cases those are attempts for scam.

...and.... I don't know what else the forum could do about this.
1235  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-11-24] Starling Bank bans Bitcoin transactions on: January 25, 2023, 11:31:57 AM
Is it Starling Bank, according to your spelling or Sterling Bank?

If you would have been paying attention at least to the linked article you would have known that it's an article from UK talking about Starling Bank from UK (and the situation of crypto in UK), not Sterling Bank (Nigeria)...

1236  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ready to learn and solve the world's biggest problems on: January 25, 2023, 09:37:26 AM
I am happy to be here but how can I find able person that will guide me through my stay here.

This is a bad approach. If you look for a person to help you, you can easily stumble on persons that want to scam you or who may (willingly or unwillingly) mislead you.
Since you are an upcoming backend developer you may assimilate more info from pages like https://learnmeabitcoin.com/ or https://electrum.readthedocs.io/ than from watching YouTube movies.
(Same goes to private messages: scammers can pretend to help you privately; avoid.)
The questions are best to be asked publicly. See below.

How do I commence my learning in the most subtle way?
Is there addictional materials available? Like link, videos, PDF

The best is imho to read a little from reputable sources.
I'd start with bitcoin whitepaper: https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-paper (if you're from UK, just ask for a different source)
Then I'd go to through Mastering Bitcoin, which is free here: https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook
Afterwards, the links I've started with can be of help too.

When you have some reading done, you can start asking. People here will be more than happy to help you, as long as you don't ask things already asked 100s of times.
The search feature of the forum can be of help too, or maybe https://ninjastic.space/search would make it even easier.
Make sure you make your topics when asking questions instead of hijacking others' topics.
Enjoy the ride!
1237  Economy / Economics / Re: Is renting an inevitable waste of money? on: January 25, 2023, 08:12:48 AM
However, my analysis is valid for my country.

The country with the largest percentage of homeownership in the world?
I guess nobody listens to the cons there, your first wage comes with a mandatory mortgage or how do things work there?   Cheesy

Actually more and more look for the cons too, plus usually the first wage, by far is not big enough for the bank's liking.
The bank looks for stable job, hence at least 6 months there... the reality is not exactly like the newspapers depict it  Wink

The fact that there are so many homeowners here is (also) caused by the fact that soon after the old regime was abolished, the people was able to buy the flats they were living in, and the prices were extremely low. Else the percentage would look awful, actually.

On the other hand, the prices for the properties are more likely to grow here than in more developed countries, hence it's a better business here to buy.

I am sure that OP can see how my pluses and minuses apply (or not) in his country; I don't feel I was that much biased.

The biggest benefit to taking a loan/mortgage is to be able to pass on the house to sons and daughters.

Well, you can - at least in theory - buy Bitcoin and, at the time the kids are big enough, those Bitcoins may (with some luck) cover the price for a decent house for each and every one of them.
But yes, you do have a valid point; paying a loan for the house is - at least in theory - less risky than bitcoin.
1238  Economy / Reputation / Re: Remove negative feedback on: January 24, 2023, 07:24:30 PM
OP, I guess, Jollygood will withdraw the negative tag if you sign a message on this address.

It can be a start, but I would not be surprised if JG will also ask 1xbit to prove the originating addresses are theirs.
Or is there already a platform or anybody who can certify that those are their addresses?
However, at least OP can indeed do his part, it's not that difficult.

btw. why did you wait this long to start this discussion?

Good point.
1239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have gotten used to using bitcoin for payment but. .. on: January 24, 2023, 07:13:08 PM
I have not seen any middleman services like aliexpress that allow sellers to accept BTC yet. You will understand also they are protecting their sellers from BTC volatility.

This is utter BS. I'm using AliExpress now and then and the currency I'm using with is Euro. Internally, AliExpress is certainly working with something else - I don't know if it's USD or CNY or another - however, when it has happened (not too often, ut still...) that I didn't receive the ordered product and asked for refund, the amount was a bit different (usually a few cents in any direction!!) which is 100% caused by fiat / forex volatility (especially as it takes about 2-3 months from ordering to asking for refund).
They can easily do the same with bitcoin too and nobody will complain // people will understand that their base currency is fiat and the amounts of BTC may differ.

A better explanation is that AliExpress being a Chinese company... is following China's rules on Bitcoin (ie. ban).

1. Coingate
2. Coinsbee
3. Bitrefill
4. eGifter

Source: https://www.makeuseof.com/best-places-buy-gift-cards-with-crypto/

This is pretty much the best list I've got for my country, but for me, only 2 gift cards from there are somewhat useful. Not much.
1240  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Pro Hash si Cryptoland -- ATM-urile fantoma on: January 24, 2023, 06:45:13 PM

Amin!

Aici subscriu si eu: amin!
