1241  Economy / Speculation / Re: BECOME A MILLIONAIRE OPEN PROJECT: Turn 100$ into a true life. on: January 15, 2015, 07:37:06 AM
Hi everyone. Last week I decided to remove my buy order at 220$. The reason was the controled violence of the first drop below 300$. I got a bad feeling and decided to remove the order. To be sincere, I didn't expect this that's happening, Bitcoin was clearly determinated to get at actual levels, but not THIS WAY:

<img>

Forget about those sheeps of the forum. These drops are COORDINATED drops. It's not a panic drop. Someone in the industry wants to pull down the price, and this is what "scares" right now to me. In a normal situation, we would be very close to the bottom, but with this new variable, I seriously doubt it. Nothing is done for nothing, and this drop has been created for SOMETHING.

My plan has changed a little. I have already decided the 1st round trade altcoin, but right now the price is too high. Once it gets to my level, I will buy the bitcoins at any price and then trade the first round. I keep saying, don't worry about the actual situation, bitcoin will go to 10,000 in two or three years.

Regards, Askenaz.

I was seriously waiting for you to respond on your $220 buy order. Glad to hear you didn't buy.

So how would you know the 'real bottom'?
How low do you think the price can go to be 'good for buying'?

CRYPTODOUBLE run??

YES. They ran out with all YOUR hard-earned Bitcoins (at least 2233 BTC).
And apparently they also cashed them out on BTC-E.

CryptoDouble, a website founded on the promise of doubling its users’ deposits within 100 hours, ceased all its operations. At least 2233 BTC (about $500,000) have been cashed out on BTC-E, leaving thousands of customers out of pocket.

In view of the coin-swap exchange being taken over by known scammer group GAW, many alt-coin developer teams are requesting de-listing of their alt-coins from that exchange. And I think that's great.

Has DOGED team thought of doing something similar? There are several exchanges out there and we can sure afford to lose just one.
1244  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is there anything worth buying? on: January 13, 2015, 11:23:28 AM
So I'll have about $1K that I want to put towards bitcoin investment or generation of bitcoins somehow.  I've parted out my gpu rigs but am still interested in a mining aspect.  I've looked into cloud mining and some rigs that are coming out.

Mostly, the advice I've gotten is to just buy bitcoin.  But I want to do something that would be more enduring.

Is there any gear that would be just as enticing as buying bitcoin right now?

You can split your investment 50% - 50% between Bitcoin and alt-coins.
Keep 50% in Bitcoin to be safe since alt-coins are comparatively risky.

Have a look at this, it gives some idea of promising alt-coins to invest in 2015:
http://fuk.io/january-2015-report-best-altcoins-and-cryptos-to-mine-and-invest-in-for-high-profits/

This is really a good guide, thanks.

You're welcome, but remember to not fall in love with any currency. If you read the title of the article carefully, you'll know what it says: "cryptos-to-mine-and-invest-in-for-high-profits" - it means you should never forget to sell when you think it has reached its peak value. Or better yet, don't wait for the peak value (nobody knows the peak value anyway) but set your own profit target and sell when this target is achieved.

After getting burned with a ponzi surely many ppl will go to an other one to get burned again :/

Just like the gambler who lost the round and keeps playing to win back what he lost.

His facebook profile is no longer accessible.

I think he is closing down his accounts one by one. Soon the Google profile will also be removed I guess.
1247  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just a friendly advice for the new guys on: January 12, 2015, 12:27:15 PM
I assume that, when all of us first heard of bitcoins and started reading about it, all of us made our first few satoshis on some faucet like freebitco.in or any other, and everything was like "I'm gonna make so much bitcoins with this!". But when you use if for some time and get a little bit more into bitcoin, you'll see that that amount you've collected over a week or so, is barely worth a penny.
So here's the advice, when you first come here and read all about them faucets, don't get your hopes up (like I did) thinking you will make something out of it. Owners of those faucets are the only ones who will profit. Faucets are there just in the beginning to help you see what it's like to receive, own, send bitcoins and how to use your wallet.

Use the faucets, see how it feels to have bitcoins but don't expect anything more than that.

Well said.

I have said many times that there are only 2 types of Bitcoin faucets:
1. Bad Faucets
2. Worse Faucets

There are no good faucets.
All faucets pay you just pennies for filling out CAPTCHAS. The amount of time you spend doing that is not worth it. Even if you do some laborious day job that pays you minimum wage, you will earn more in your real job than those faucets.
1248  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Computer Security Basics.... on: January 12, 2015, 12:23:14 PM
Get a good antivirus and malware protection.  This is one of the biggest protections.

Correct. Usually when you become tech-savvy over internet use of several years, common sense is the best protection. But for less technical people, a good antivirus is highly recommended.

Also since there have been several cases of keylogging, I highly recommend using virtual keyboard for entering your password. (Virtual keyboard is a standard component in most operating systems, also it is included with many reputed AV programs, like Kaspersky).

I have 50$ in bitcoins , where to invest to get more?

There's a way but it takes some research and patience. And don't think you'll get rich overnight.

Many people earn decent profits by trading promising alt-coins, but you have to be very careful which coins you choose and when to buy/sell.

Have a look at this thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=918607

And have a look at this coin for an example:
http://crypto-prices.com/DOGED
People who invested in DOGED early @ 1 satoshi price are now selling it @ 5 satoshi, earning 4x profit.

I'm not telling you to invest in DOGED, I'm just saying if you make careful decisions, alt-coin trading can surprise you.

I did not invest anything, so I am losing out on my 100% profit !!!

FML !!  Grin
1251  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy now or cry later on: January 12, 2015, 10:58:53 AM
LOL. No it will defeinetly drop to $200 sometime for sure in the next 3 months.

Hopefully it will rise from there.

We all were *hoping* it will rise up from 800...  then 650...   then 420....   then 350.... then 280....  and now 200?

Let's accept the fact that nobody really knows how low this can go. I have some fiat waiting to buy BTC, but I'm not buying just now yet. I'll wait and see. Thanks.

Couldn't read the full article (reading the article online requires registration and free registration can only let you read 3 articles per month; how lame is that?)
Search the title of the article on google, and click from it.
In this case "A bitcoin believer on its perils and its potential", you will be able to read it.

Thank you, I was able to read it fully following your advice.

Few quotes from the article for ready reference:

Quote
Though Mr Andresen concedes bitcoin remains in the early days of its development, he is confident it will mature, noting that more than $300m of venture money had been invested in bitcoin start-ups in 2014.

Quote
Mr Andresen is also at the forefront of efforts to ready the virtual currency for wider use. As it is currently designed, the bitcoin network can process just seven transactions a second. By comparison, Visa is capable of handling close to 50,000 transaction a second at peak times.

Quote
While Mr Andresen tries to prepare bitcoin for mass usage, he advises caution to investors. He holds thousands of bitcoins, enough to retire comfortably. But he has been cashing them in slowly, investing in stock market funds instead.

Couldn't read the full article (reading the article online requires registration and free registration can only let you read 3 articles per month; how lame is that?) but it is possible that he also talked about Bitcoin's strength and potential, but the newspaper chose to quote the other part.

We have seen such media attempts in past and this one is no different.

Really hope the Doge/LTC communities catch on to this alt.  Price has remained low...but the last couple days it's bounced above 1/2 sat for the first time.  This could be the beginning to an awakening...oh snap!

What just happened yesterday? Price just shot up 400%.

I guess all DOGE fans are also joining hands with DOGED to form strong community?

1257  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy now or cry later on: January 12, 2015, 05:06:13 AM
I think the OP actually meant was "Buy Now AND Cry Later".

He posted a graph when the price was above $315 and he said it could only go up from there.
And here we are, looking at $267 and still the downward trend continues.

I am willing to buy, but I hope for still lower prices.

Have the user balances restored?

I had nothing there on hot wallet, so I wouldn't know. For everyone else, did BitStamp restored the stolen coins or everyone's balances are zero now?

Another great example of spike. In fact this was just my recent investment. I got out after second spike because news got released right before it and dump! Made good profit with this one too.
