1241  Economy / Economics / Re: Is renting an inevitable waste of money? on: January 24, 2023, 06:32:05 PM

There are pluses and minuses in absolutely all cases.
If you want to buy a place:
* you will most probably buy it a bit farther from where you'd work (so you can afford to buy it), meaning you lose a lot of time in commute (no matter if it's car, bus, train or whatever)
* taking a loan is, as you said, something not too easy to take and may need certain advance planning
* even if you buy a place, it won't be like you have no other costs than just paying it back, maintenance and utilities are to be paid
* if you lose your job you may be forced to quick-sell your place, possibly even at a (great) loss
* you may end up - sooner or later - with neighbors you simply don't want to live near them (stinky, noisy, whatever)

On the other hand:
* even if the place is bought with a loan, you can still sell it if your relation doesn't work out or you want to go working in another city or country; though it may worth it selling only after at least 3 years
* the prices for houses/flats tends to go up - actually it's a sinusoidal with higher and higher ups - but it doesn't hurt watching the market and don't buy at top and sell at bottom; still it's usually a good long term investment.

Staying in rented place:
* no need for commitment
* it can be near (or at least not too far from) the work and the fun places
* you have the flexibility to easily go rent somewhere else if you change work or you don't like your neighbors

It's up to you to weight the pluses and the minuses; I' might have even missed some. In theory buying your own place is a great investment; in reality, not all cases/situations are that nice.
However, my analysis is valid for my country. Some points may differ in yours.
1242  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please Help, Am Running low on ideas. on: January 24, 2023, 04:26:44 PM
Where can I get good quality materials and topic sources from?

You are missing the point. I have only 85 topics started and I'm here since 2014. If one doesn't have new/important/very explanatory things to say, maybe he has to focus on something else.
Maybe you should not be so keen to create topics. Read, learn, answer questions, give advises. Be careful to not repeat what others said, where possible.
And some day you will know what to write for new topics when it's the case. Why rush it?

Oh, creating new topics make it easier for your campaign's quota? That's a more unpleasant story. If you don't know what to write, you better don't write, else you'll end up - sooner or later - spamming. And I think that it's better if you leave a campaign for not meeting a quota now, as Full Member, then learn more and someday start joining campaigns again, maybe even as a higher ranks, but surely with more experience and more information to tell/share. How about this?
1243  Economy / Reputation / Re: Remove negative feedback on: January 24, 2023, 04:11:29 PM
Is JollyGood allegation true? I mean this:

Quote
"MrBrightside1" is a newbie claiming 1xbit sent him 10 BTC winnings but failed to provide evidence therefore is treated as a sock-puppet used to spread propaganda to promote the 1xbit scammers.

Well, I've looked up the story for you via ninjastic.space.
OP has claimed here that there's a problem with an 1xbit withdrawal, and a big one, about 10 BTC.
And after some discussions in all the directions, OP has claimed that his withdrawal (an even bigger one, since he has won some more) was processed. You can look up the discussion in between the two linked posts.

Of course, these can be legit or not, the tx Id doesn't really prove anything. And since we know 1xbit reputation and some of us also know that 1xbit did orchestrate fake testimonials on the forum too, I am not surprised at all by that trust feedback.

Sorry, OP, I don't say you're lying or not, I don't have any proof, but for my knowledge, the chances you lied there are bigger than the chances you were honest. Simple, cold math.
Plus, as said, only JollyGood can remove his trust feedback; that's how trust feedback works.

LE. Sorry @examplens if you feel I'm duplicating your finding, we were in paralel and I've added my thoughts too.
Even later edit: @MrBrightside1: calling JollyGood an idiot certainly doesn't look good for your case  Cheesy Cheesy

Din pacate, nu am avut noroc niciunul... Sper sa mai reitereze acest concurs in viitor...

Wink Multa bafta!

1247  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: The Collectibles Issue on: January 24, 2023, 10:24:46 AM
The device could e.g. sign messages to show that the (correct) key is there. As well as signing transactions, of course, to spend the funds from that key.
That's a neat solution. Until of course someone finds a vulnerability and tricks it in to signing a transaction when it isn't supposed to. Tongue

I don't like to be the devil's advocate, however, a signed TX can be easily broadcasted anytime later. So no matter how smart the embedded device is, a previous owner can create and sign the transaction of spending the collectible's coins and... broadcast it years later. Or am I missing something?
Because if I'm right it's no use to embed smarter and more expensive devices into collectibles, this kind of stealing problems can still happen.
1248  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] Betnomi.com Review Campaign | 0.001 BTC/Review on: January 24, 2023, 09:56:16 AM
I see the 50 spots are still not filled, I'll add my review too. I clearly didn't cover everything, hence if it doesn't meet the conditions of this campaign, no biggie.

Betnomi review

I've spent some (quality!) time at Betnomi.com and I'll write a couple of words about my experience there.

Sign up and sign in

The sign up is very simple, only e-mail, username and password have to be entered (plus, obviously, confirmation about being over 18 and agreement on T&C).
The sign in is pretty much as expected, including keeping you logged in. But here I have a note: at least on my PC/browser there’s somehow interesting that after every couple of logins, no matter I click or not the “remember me” checkbox, I am asked again to enter my credentials. I don’t know if it’s a security measure, or it’s related to something odd in my browser cookie settings, but this is what we have. (May worth checking?)

Games and bets

There is a huge variety of games and things to bet on, and they are grouped so one doesn’t gets lost in that impressive “world”.

The first group is casino games, which contains over 5000 slot machine-like games.

The second group is live casino games, with over 250 games, from roulette to blackjack, keno, macao, baccarat, poker and many other games and flavors I didn’t even know they exist.

Next group is games. It’s a bit smaller, only 13 games here. There’s dice, plinko and some others, the one I’ve liked the most and spent most of time playing (albeit without real money) was blast. I recommend you spend at least a couple of minutes on it if you go for Betnomi.

The next 3 groups (live sport, sports, e-sport) are all related to sport betting. There are a lot of sports there to bet on, interestingly, one can already bet even on World Cup 2026! Premier League even made me a small win, yay!

Poker. Like every proper casino, Betnomi also has poker well covered, from a quick seat to trying to get into one of the tournaments. However, poker is not my game, so I can’t tell more.

Coins

Betnomi accepts 11 cryptocurrencies, from Bitcoin and Ethereum to Litecoin, Tron, BNB or USDT.
Even more, most of its games can be played for free, with its “FUN” coins.

Trying out games

As I said, Betnomi allows playing most of the games as “fun play”, where (unlike in “real play”) the loses and wins happen with 0-value money, FUN coins.
I can tell though that (again, it may be my browser…) the games sometimes didn’t start (under various errors or simply not responding), but at a later try most of them did start and allowed me have fun. (However, it may worth checking?)

Chat

Betnomi has chat, but it’s not that livey. I think that this is the only (somewhat) minus for some, but I don't think it's a big deal, since the games are great!

Withdrawal and KYC

I’ve had a small win hence I had the opportunity to also try out the withdrawal. It was processed very fast and, most probably since the amount was rather small, no KYC was asked either (which is very nice from their side!); of course, I cannot guarantee that this will also happen in your case, hence reading the T&C is a must.

Conclusion

It’s a pleasant casino with a huge variety of games to choose from. Even more, you can test most of them for free. If you prefer sports betting, that’s also covered. So I can’t think of anything that would be missing at Betnomi, hence it clearly worth giving it a chance.

1249  Economy / Reputation / Re: My apology to all. And please read the whole post before you do anything. on: January 24, 2023, 09:27:07 AM
Without the merit exchange, I have never done anything wrong here.

Giving merits is a "gray area"; you can give merits based on how you feel. There is some sort of etiquette, you should merit only posts that are good, but you will find also seasoned members sometimes meriting a meme or a nicely done entry in a Christmas contest.
However, exchanging merits can also be seen as shady and some may even tag you for it. It's softer than banning, but your account will no longer look good.
Plus, this "the other account belongs to sister/brother/best friend/colleague from same office" and so on are stories we've heard far too much and many won't believe it/buy it.

So, the current actions pose a risk. Some may give you a second chance, some may not. No matter you get tagged or not, you will have to learn something from this and stop doing shenanigans, since they can only drag you down.
1250  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bye Bye Bear Market :) on: January 24, 2023, 09:17:57 AM
3. End of Bear Market, bottom is in.

I hope you're right (obviously), but I still don't feel like we are 100% safe. The price looks good, however, I'd wait for a correction (or at least plateau) and then the next pump; then I'd also be convinced we're good (I tend to be "slow" in this, but don't worry about me).
On the other hand, I was expecting the bear market end in Q4 2022 and, based on these new charts, it has basically ended in 2 of January 2023. So, based on my original math, you indeed may be right on this.

PS. Thanks for the new charts, I've been awaiting for them Wink
1251  Local / Altcoins (Monede Alternative) / Re: Discutie despre PI network on: January 24, 2023, 09:05:41 AM

1252  Local / Altcoins (Monede Alternative) / Re: Discutie despre PI network on: January 23, 2023, 09:21:17 PM

Total legit shitcoin lol

Macar pe jumatate ai nimerit-o. Shitcoin. Dar, nu, nu e legit.
1253  Economy / Reputation / Re: A theory, DT in/exclusion and eventually the DT network on: January 23, 2023, 08:48:40 PM
Laziness : I am guilty of it too. I do not update my trust page very often. Don't know if updating it often will do any difference too. Well obviously when something happen like Yogg did then you remember that you have something to do or when you notice someone is highly abusive and it's an obvious without any doubt.

Fear of offending: I never felt that way. I think none should do. When anyone cares about the other then instead of only ~ him/her, have a discussion with him. Let him know that you are doing the ~ and when you will see he is improving in the matter then you will remove the ~. The receiver should not be offended if the attitude is correct.

I was not talking about you, I was talking in general. I am, at least partly, guilty of both of these.
I've done changes in my trust list a couple of times in 2022, but I still feel I could do better. And I've removed in 2022 somebody from my trust list and I still have a felling he may have felt offended by my move back then.

The hopes for inclusion: This is evil and I think these are the ones who have plans like I said in the OP. We need to be careful from them who has good plans to have a place in the DT system. Unfortunately many if not all (of course not all) who were effected by the merit introduction and then found a way from the Default trust change, started to use the system in hope for inclusion. The theory.

Your own DT status may suffer: Once we will not think about what we are gaining from it, I think that time we will enjoy the best benefit from the current system.

The theory is not bad. But I also feel that the hope for inclusion is wider. I think that DT is seen by many like a "club". And who doesn't want to see how is it in there at least once?
I am not DT for that long and I remember I've seen this or that becoming at least DT2 and sometimes thinking "how comes they're more trusted than me?". Now it's somewhat the opposite: I get notified when the new elections are posted (since my name is written) and I'm surprised I'm still DT1; I feel like DT2 or lower is not a problem.

So... we may have an incorrect/short view on who is hoping for inclusion and why. I don't think that all have clear plans.

May be the whole trust and ignore list should not be accessible even by the member himself. Have button like ignore. Trust/Distrust. When you feel you want to add someone then press the Trust button, when you feel you want to ~ someone then press distrust button. But don't give the list like right now we have trust list and ignore list. Unfortunately we all know Theymos is not going to do anything sooner so let's leave it out from the discussion.

Actually there are at least 3 cases: Trust, Distrust, neutral (or remove, if you wish).
This "hiding" of the list may be a good idea in the case of ignores actually Cheesy so that page doesn't get timeout for some users.
For trust, I don't know, the list being not visible will make user X look for another user's profile and see what options he has available (maybe Trust is no longer there if it's already trusted). The list being visible can help. I think that, although it's extremely useful, Loyce's trust viewer can also be a tool for evil - from planning to checking and whatever - since everybody can see how the others' trust list looks like; so the list being editable is imho much less "harmful" (not the best term, I know) as long as it's private compared to it being public. On the other hand, the evil ones can easily group together (there are actually such groups imho) and share the info between themselves.
So, all in all, restricting this or that won't stop somebody determined. (what a long turn around my own tail, isn't it?)

Oeleo (i can't really type his name on mobile) gave a nice summary: DT is a mess! I try to do my share in educating people, and once in a while point out the worst use of inclusions, but it doesn't change the bigger picture because the system itself is flawed. If too many people use it in the wrong way, the few users who use it correctly don't matter anymore. Maybe that's just how democracy works....

That's correct. Democracy has the same flaw: it can too easily be used for evil.
DT is a mess. Is it a bigger mess than the previous DT system? I don't know, I don't think so, but it's hard to tell. And even harder to make it better.
1254  Local / Altcoins (Monede Alternative) / Re: Discutie despre PI network on: January 23, 2023, 06:09:52 PM
Se creează o falsă impresie cum că are deja o valoare.

1255  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A crypto fixed-deposit wallet. on: January 23, 2023, 06:03:20 PM
If a person has no basic discipline to resist panic selling, maybe they shouldn't get involved with Bitcoin at all.

Exactly. Even the banks allow you cancel a deposit, just you'll lose some money. So... OP's actual use case it.. only for those who don't understand the products they're using.
Timelock is an option, as already said. I don't like it. In my experience a paper wallet has done the job. Why? Because one is less prone to spend money he doesn't have at hand.
Of course, generating a paper wallet correctly and safely can be challenge for some. But imho it's a good option for saving. And if one gets into big real life problems (and it can happen, unfortunately), that money is not so difficult to access and spend.

1257  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: January 23, 2023, 05:37:34 PM
* since members come and go the spreadsheet can become sooner or later almost public again if it isn't that everybody can see only his records
* this means that neither the CM nor the participants cannot be properly checked; and humans are inclined to cheat, you know...
As I mentioned above, I can see the argument for a public spreadsheet in short lived campaigns, those which have a high turn over of users, or those with untrusted managers. But in a stable campaign such as ChipMixer, which adds or removes users only a couple of times a year and is managed by a highly trusted manager, then I see no benefit. Whereas the benefit to privacy of not having one is significant.

Well, another use case is users sharing the link to others from outside. I would add that I was there on the use case of having a spreadsheet. The direction of not having any at all is... intriguing.
And I agree 100% that not having one at all significantly benefit on privacy. Just then there won't be any choice for scrutiny (of course, it can be debatable whether we need that or not).
Interestingly we may get from 2 spreadsheets (as now, although temporarily) to none (at least not publicly).

What if Chip Mixer members gave Dark Star a list of 10 Addresses and Dark Star paid them weekly in a random Address from a Chip Mixer chip.  Just an idea.

Not a bad idea, just it can be prone to mistakes, since as we stand now OP will have to handle correctly 540 addresses.
I would clearly not mid to get the coins sent to a private list of addresses.

---
However, private spreadsheet and private list of addresses... this can probably work at ChipMixer and maybe a handful of other campaigns, but in most cases (campaigns and campaign managers) it can become - sooner or later - the recipe for disaster.
1258  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: January 23, 2023, 02:10:21 PM
I see no reason for there to be a public record linking usernames to addresses.

This is correct. But then probably the whole procedure of joining to a campaign should be changed, from privately giving out addresses (by participants and possibly by campaign manager too) to private access to the spreadsheet for the participants.

However:
* this would be a huge hassle for CMs
* since members come and go the spreadsheet can become sooner or later almost public again if it isn't that everybody can see only his records
* this means that neither the CM nor the participants cannot be properly checked; and humans are inclined to cheat, you know...

So.. this half-solution is imho more hassle for not much of use/improvement, and.. I don't know how can this be done really good.
Don't take me wrong, I'd like to see a better solution. But for now, we don't have one.

Plus ca Franky may scria "you've got Franked". Englezii "ed"-uiesc cam orice  Cheesy

I also don't know how to say that or symbols doesn't always mean that this is something good or bad  :/
Having less options is sometimes better, to reduce risk of attacks.

Maybe then add some sort of points as some sort of conclusion; the more the better. Of course, this may become somewhat biased.
Also price range can be a factor, since people tend to go for good (or good enough) and cheap (where possible).

Since the table starts to be kinda wide, maybe somehow the camera/qr and microUSB/USBC columns can be shortened ie. maybe shorter or two-column headers (just as advises, making it also this nice may not be easy).
