1341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin developer @lukedashjr's wallet was hacked on: January 13, 2023, 10:47:59 AM
What lessons to learn from the Luke Dashjr private keys (data) breach? How to prevent, counter-measure and cope with that kind of attacks?

Get a hardware wallet and write your backups onto paper with your own hand.
1342  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcon in CB on: January 13, 2023, 10:35:20 AM
I am buying btc at www.coinbase.com ,do anything need to know about buying BTC at www.coinbase.com?

I didn't use Coinbase, but based on how centralized exchanges work, some things that come into my mind are:

* afaik Coinbase asks for KYC, make sure you pass that and don't get surprises when you want to withdraw
(as alternative you can look for non-KYC exchanges, usually decentralized ones, but those need a different learning curve)

* depending on the amount you'll be buying the withdrawal fee from Coinbase to your own wallet may or may not hurt (it's a fixed fee and on small amounts to withdraw it can be seen as significant fee)
(again, there's the already mentioned decentralized exchanges, but also the OTC exchanges which have worse exchange rates, but together with the withdrawal fees it may get less expensive for small amounts)

Sorry if I'm confusing you more than I help you. If you want to keep it simple: pass KYC first, don't withdraw very small amounts, instead withdraw after more smaller buys if it's the case.
1343  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets that work with Smartphones? on: January 13, 2023, 10:22:58 AM
2. I suggest making a new column and mentioning if the devices can be connected to Android and iPhone, or just one of the models. I think Ledger only works with Android phones and not with iPhones. There are surely similar examples with other manufacturers as well.

I think that even for PC there could be a need for a special column (because of the NFC wallets, for example).
But overall, yes, after gathering all the info I am sure that OP can make a better looking table that can be read easier by all who are interested.
1344  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trust no one in Bitcoin (Coldkey story) on: January 13, 2023, 10:19:55 AM
Taking a quick look at Coldkey, isn't this pretty much something like the Ballet Wallet? Pretty much like trusting a person/manufacturer to generate a paper wallet for you? Yikes.

It is. But the manufacturers pretty much try to sell them like art (imho). There are unloaded and DYI ones which imho they make much more sense, but the loaded ones bear much higher premium, plus the owner will think twice before redeeming the "paper wallet" because it decreases its value more than just with those bitcoins it was holding.

But yes, at the end of the day, they're just nicer paper wallets made by somebody else.
Even more, while 95% of the cases the manufacturers can be trusted (at least until now), the more hands the collectible pass on, the bigger the chance somebody has found a way to unseal it and copy the private key for "future use".

As minerjones said it very good:

Our "hobby" of loaded coins is inherently a bad idea and against everything bitcoin stands for!!!
1345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would someone send 4 BTC to Satoshi (Genesis block) on: January 13, 2023, 09:51:34 AM
I agree with @pooya87 on this.
I see no good reason to send 4 BTC to Satoshi and some 100$ to a change address. I think that whoever did that wanted to send the 100$ to Satoshi and 4 BTC to self.

Of course, making a donation to everybody is another not-too-bad scenario, i.e. somebody with lots of money wanted to make every bitcoiner a bit richer with this, or at least Satoshi if he ever comes back.
Still, the scenario with the error makes more sense to me...

1347  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 50% Down Move Incoming? on: January 13, 2023, 08:05:27 AM
Yup.  This prediction failed and I was also quite unsure that's the only reason this thread title ended with a ?
Hope you didn't missed this thread where I analyzed 50% down move too and it got executed -> Bitcoin Hash Ribbons Capitulation Alert!

All good though! Smiley

Just read again, what I was asking for was new charts and predictions, not old proofs.  Wink
I am aware that this kind of predictions, no matter how good are they documented, may or may not come true, don't worry.
1348  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 50% Down Move Incoming? on: January 12, 2023, 09:44:52 PM
@ImThour, I've admitted that my crystal globe is broken, but it looks like yours is no better...
It's not only that the 9th of January doomsday was avoided, but the crypto winter seems to be ending too; or am I rushed with my conclusions?

So let's move on and bring us another chart, what you think? Any new prediction?
1349  Local / Offtopic / Re: Offtopic - Română on: January 12, 2023, 09:34:16 PM

Nu-ti bate capul. Nu m-ar mira sa fi si tradus cu cine stie ce, deci si daca ar fi avut sens in limba originala, nu mai are.

1350  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin transaction format and byte sizes on: January 12, 2023, 09:04:26 PM
Is there any better website/image that shows the elements of a bitcoin transaction in a byte level?

Maybe this is what you're looking for? https://learnmeabitcoin.com/technical/transaction-data
That website is afaik one of the best sources for learning.
1351  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets that work with Smartphones? on: January 12, 2023, 08:54:00 PM
With the proper cable or an adapter into the original cable Ledger Nano S (and S Plus) can also easily get connected to smartphone. Tested/used by me with Android phones.
I've even posted sometime in the past the adapter I'm using (for microUSB, but there also exist such adapted for USB-C too)

And before Tibu sees you  Cheesy you can also add SatoChip since it's NFC, but I don't really know more details on that one. For PC they sell a reader too.

What else is there?

Another rather popular random seed is system uptime (as opposed to current date/time).

If you insist, I guess that you can even try to start up the mic, record some noise and add that too to the randomness. Just of course, the recording level has to be big enough to catch anything and there's a chance the OS may tell the user what you're doing.
1354  Economy / Economics / Re: Twitter could launch in-app ‘coins’ to help creators make money on: January 12, 2023, 05:26:49 PM

The easiest way to get rich is to make money out of thin air. Whether Elon will try to make only some "game coins" inside Twitter or something else, we'll see. Depending on the path he's taking he may have to pass various licensing steps or not. After Facebook experiment I'm sure the politicians will keep a close eye on it.
If he will make a new coin, then the success of that may happen only together with Twitter's.
1355  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Bitcoin – o revoluție fără vărsare de sânge on: January 12, 2023, 05:21:21 PM

1356  Economy / Exchanges / Re: 90% of India's largest crypto exchange funds are in Binance wallet on: January 12, 2023, 04:47:22 PM
If binance falls, there will be something like a Domino effect for sure!

I am actually surprised that people still need this kind of news to understand all these (bad) relationships.
Of course, people will prefer some rich exchange owners' posts on Twitter than the plain and simple "not your keys, not your coins".

Really? Really? 1/5 of the coins on Wazirx are Shiba Inu?

Welcome to the world of altcoins  Grin
..And yeah, if this is true then there are reasonable chances that WazirX could fall before Binance does.

I'd suggest refraining from inviting users to participate in campaigns unless you are completely sure that they're fine with it.
That's what I will do to practice the safe side.

With the risk of stating the obvious... you know that quite a number of members of the forum already use the existing notification bots.
So in many cases posting an invitation (of course, unless it's meant to be very private) directly in a post can already do the job with much less risks.
.. just my 2 sats...
1358  Other / Meta / Re: Request to add delete post feature on Archival on: January 12, 2023, 03:43:49 PM
What's wrong if it remains in the post history? Any special reason that you are finding weird?

Even more, one can easily ignore the Archival board and he will not see those posts in his history.
I've done that and not only for Archival; I've also ignored most local boards, for example...

@Coin_trader, wouldn't this be a reasonable solution for you?

1359  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Bitcoin – o revoluție fără vărsare de sânge on: January 12, 2023, 03:38:15 PM

1. Are radacini in lumea IT + internet.

Clar.
Revolutia s-a incheiat? Nici pe departe.
Vom prinde sfarsitul acestei revolutii? Greu de spus! Dar ma bucur ca traiesc in acesta perioada.
1360  Economy / Reputation / Re: My ignore list and my feedbacks and is Poker Player acceptable? on: January 12, 2023, 03:17:20 PM
Can anyone answer why Poker Player is such aggressive to me?

That's something not many can answer. Maybe only PP...
It may be you've done (willingly or not, in that nefarious business or not, I can't tell) something that either offended him badly, either spoiled some business for him or somebody he knows.
Or it may be just a bad impression he got on you, which got worse with that mistake from last year and then also because of his "initial" view on you and the fact you didn't stop engaging into businesses involving money. Plus, if we're brutally honest, your next business idea had its own communication and misinterpretation related issues, which, because of misunderstanding the reasons, was for him another proof he is doing the right thing (I don't think I could've done it much different or better, don't take me wrong, I'm just stating the perceived result).
Then, the fact so many people still consider you trustworthy may be angering him even more. ...Or not; he may be even doing it for some odd sense of fun (who knows?).

However, these are wild guesses. I can't tell what's going on PP mind, only he can. Human mind is... complicated...

As said, grow a thicker skin, you have no other choice for it. From what I know aggressiveness and (cyber) bullying are not against the rules.

but he is picking up my clients and telling them not to hire me because he thinks I will scam them. Do you think this is acceptable behavior?

This is unfortunate and can get him easily from distrust to negative tag.
Just you have to properly and publicly prove / document this, else it's just your word against his and that pretty much means nothing for a more or less impartial viewer.

Life is too short to waste it on negativity.

That's correct. But since Royse777 has paid some consistent amounts of money from his pocket to handle the mishap from last year, I expect he wants to recover that by working for it. And PP negativity has the potential to harm. If it would not be that, Royse777 could just go on, but as it is ... it can be a problem. And most probably PP knows this and may be also doing it on purpose.
