1361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - a bloodless revolution on: January 12, 2023, 10:52:51 AM
industrial revolution

This is what I was also thinking. OP got a bit carried away, I'd say, and missed some points. Calling something to be first in something it's always risky and it needs (at least) double checked.

Romania was the only one that had a violent revolution at the fall of the Warsaw pact! Don't know why you hated that guy that much compared to our own commies but you're the only ones that executed somebody then and that had the army firing on its own fellow countrymen.

That was manipulation and cover up.
That guy was shot before he understood what's happening to him and before he could start telling that we're changing one commie for other commie(s).
And the shooting and blood bath was even more manipulation, together with the stupidity and the incompetence we also see these days at military forces in another ongoing war.
1362  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can Dns Servers leak data? Just want to be very careful on: January 12, 2023, 09:33:25 AM
The last is, how possible of leaking your recovery seed through the DNS server? Never heard of this but gotta be very careful.

As said, a DNS transforms the nice name of a website into an IP address.
At least in theory a malicious DNS can send you, instead of website A you know and want to use, to website B, which can even look like website A, just (also) steal your data.

This being said, entering the wallet seed into online services / web wallets / apps built around web wallets was never great for your coins' security.
On the other hand, with a normal stand-alone wallet, there's a higher risk coming from the auto-completion features of your phone's keyboard program than from the rare DNS hacks.
1363  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Guys, what electrum server you run on: January 11, 2023, 08:49:27 PM
Holy sh!t, even I don't have anywhere near those specs.

So what are the resource requirements for vanilla electrs? Hopefully not anything more than Bitcoin Core (minus all that storage and bandwidth).

The original electrs is meant to have kinda same requirements as the bitcoin node:

The motivation behind this project is to enable a user to self host an Electrum server, with required hardware resources not much beyond those of a full node.

But the page doesn't tell much else than

Low CPU & memory usage (after initial indexing)

1364  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Do and Don't for Electrum Wallet on: January 11, 2023, 02:44:53 PM
I would like people to tell and discuss that after installing Electrum wallet on the computer, what additional steps they should take so that there are minimal chances of their funds being hacked by the intruders and hackers.

This is very simple:
* if you have the skills and willingness to correctly set up and use a cold storage, start with that and use your live Electrum watch only, built only from the cold one's master public key.
* if you don't have those skills or just want more convenience, acquire a hardware wallet.

In both cases the backup seed doesn't have to touch any online device (and need to be backed up in multiple places).
I also recommend restoring at least once the cold storage or hardware wallet from the seed you're backing up, to make sure you indeed work with the wallet you think you're working with.
(Before using any electrum you should verify its signature, you know that, right?)

If you also really care about your privacy and you have the skills and hardware for that, you can consider setting up for yourself a bitcoin node, an electrum server and maybe a block explorer too.
1365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: im searching for a tool to scan btc private key WIF format on: January 11, 2023, 01:45:34 PM
thank you., but im using windows ... that cant help me.
i didint buy it, i found it, and the adress have a btc balance.

FinderOuter also works under Windows.
You can look up the way it works, I think that this is the relevant part.
And you can get it from here, just look for Windows files.

As already said, the more import problem for you is to reduce that number of missing characters, 10 is too many.

1367  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why the Bitcoin.Org has Deleted the Bitcoin White Paper ? on: January 11, 2023, 12:15:49 PM
I don't think he mean that.

Just looks like a Satoshi fan.

He has in his personal text "I am Satoshi Nakamoto". See also the archive.
His post history, and also this very topic is just trolling in that direction.

Even in this very topic, just read this again:

Is Craig Wright causing problems for Bitcoin.Org to publish the Bitcoin White Paper ?  If that is the case then why have'nt you ask me for legal help ?
1368  Local / Altcoins (Monede Alternative) / Re: [Discutie] Portofele ca extensie de browser on: January 11, 2023, 11:09:25 AM

1369  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: ✅💳Get A Anonymous Crypto Debit Card | KYC-FREE - CoinPayCard.net 💳✅ on: January 11, 2023, 10:26:52 AM
We are definitely going nowhere, we are here to stay, it took us a long time to create our platform and convincing card issuers to work together.

You've said this before, and not long afterwards you gave some... strange answers to actually not too difficult questions, making me (and not only me) doubt you.
That's why I prefer answers from more established (and more technical) people.

Also, there is a lot more coming, more cryptocurrencies, better platforms and our own iOS/android apps.

Maybe, after you also gain more trust and the business gets more traction too, you get to offer plastic cards too.
If the prices also don't get much higher (than/for the basic plan), that could become very interesting.
But no rush. One step at a time.
1370  Other / Serious discussion / Re: How my MetaMask was hacked and how to protect your crypto on: January 11, 2023, 08:16:46 AM
*they are also being hacked - LastPass data was leaked not so long ago. I chose the Keepr manager based on a combination of iOS and Chrome app reviews.

1. This is a very informative story, but imho it would have been better to post it to Beginners & Help.
2. I use Bitwarden. It may worth a look.
3. Although I use a good/reputable password manager, I do use 2FA on the websites where I have more than 1 cent worth of coins, I keep my BTC on hardware wallet and I don't keep any seed data stored on places connected to the internet. This "setup" may also worth a thought.

1373  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Guys, what electrum server you run on: January 11, 2023, 07:38:07 AM
took me half a minute to see all the transactions, fulctrum with mempool.

With Electrum on default settings?! Or you have a special build (or setting??!) for Electrum?
I would like to try the same, but when trying with Fulcrum I've seen those messages in the log and I thought that Electrum has failed me (I've waited with Electrum on Fulcrum more than 30 minutes before giving up).

nothing particular.
I put this address in my self-hosted mempool explorer which fetches data from Fulcrum. Normally with electrs, it throws me an error saying over the limit. But with fulcrum, it is a 30-second job.

Well, this is what PawGo said he doesn't want (after I made a similar test at first).
He was aiming with a test with Electrum; i.e. with a wallet made from that address in Electrum.
Thanks though.
You've scared me, I thought I was missing something obvious with Electrum Smiley
1374  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.3.3 Relased on: January 10, 2023, 08:07:48 PM
This is for others who use Cold wallets such as Electrum and for the safety of their assets.

Are you sure you know what you're talking about? Because Electrum can be used as hot wallet, as cold wallet, or with a hardware wallet...

I just remembered from a member here on the forum that he also used Electrum but he didn't immediately update to its latest version, that's why the hacker suddenly came to drain the contents of his wallet on Electrum because of the old version he was using.

Again, are you sure you know what you're talking about? The hack everybody is talking about is more likely due of some malware installed on his computer than any problem of the older Electrum. If Electrum itself would be affected we would have been hearing already of much more hacks...
1375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Oh boy, I've got wallet.dat on: January 10, 2023, 07:21:26 PM
The coins are still there. I guess I can try some dates

I would start with
2009-01-09 (Bitcoin's first transaction date)
2016-05-05 (the date that wallet got funded at)

Make sure you do tests offline, or if you are knowledgeable enough, on a live OS, still offline. Hacks are really a thing and 10BTC is an overly good looking amount.
Make sure you know how your father was writing the dates (mm/dd/yyyy. dd.mm.yyyy, yyyy-mm-dd or other ways)
Beware of people that may offer you help in private, some may be scammers.
Good luck.

In primul rand multumesc pentru raspuns.

My review of this service can be found on this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5425886.msg61567577#msg61567577

This is an impressive move and thank you NotATether for trying it out. After the way OP was answering in the first days of January I thought that this will be another project to end before actually starting.
Can you please confirm whether the limit of the 99$ card is 200$ or 2000$? I know the OP has said it was a typo and it's 2000$, but I am sure everybody will find the information more ressuring if it comes from you. (No offense, OP).
1378  Economy / Economics / Re: Good economic news from the US, EU and China! on: January 10, 2023, 12:04:40 PM
There is also good news coming from China, where the restrictive COVID measures have been eased suddenly, which means that their economy could begin to grow rapidly with the news that the Chinese central bank is announcing support for the domestic economy.

While I do read more and more news that are trying to imply that the world may have avoided a recession for now, the news from China are still overly concerning.
The number of people infected is very high and keeps rising rapidly, the death toll is overly big too, so this is far from good news. I don't know how is the economy going, but this may not end well. And what happens in China, doesn't stay/remain in China, we all know that.

1380  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Guys, what electrum server you run on: January 10, 2023, 10:19:18 AM
I wanted to know if Electrum connected to that server is able to generate a wallet (or maybe I am completely wrong and my problem is somewhere else, maybe it is Electrum problem).

Here there are imho two problems, and the server is the smallest one.

According to the documentation, in order to allow this kind of addresses, Fulcrum may need in config something like:
max_history = 25000000

Also according to what I've read, Electrs may also offer a similar option in config or command line, but I don't know if it's
index-lookup-limit = 1000 (is it enough?)
or
txid_limit = 1000 (or more?)

However, I could not get any success, I've got in logs the nefarious
WARNING | NotificationSession | MemoryError('dropping message over 1,000,000 bytes and re-synchronizing')

And from what I've read here, in order to fix this, Electrum itself needs a change in the code MAX_INCOMING_MSG_SIZE in interface.py, and then recompiled.

So my few tests are irrelevant, it seems. I've done more reading than testing.

PS. I start hating Fulcrum. It starts up too slow from my external HDD, while Electrs is lightning fast on that.
