1381  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: LargeCoin Pricing Announced; Taking Pre-Orders on: March 06, 2012, 11:07:13 PM

I think this product would need to be in the $10,000-$15,000 range to garner any real interest.

Would you buy one if it was $15K?
yes

Why do that when you can get the Rig Box Huh

Rig Box

30k 50 ghash/s reputation so MH/$ ratio is 1.6

LargeCon

15k 20 ghash/s no reputation so MH/$ ratio is 1.3

Maybe less power but it still does not amortize over the long run enough to matter so what is the point even at 15k ?

1382  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs - Bitforce Single and Rig Box on: March 06, 2012, 10:37:20 PM
I find it incredible to believe that BFL is making so little that they are enhancing their margin using shipping costs.

They must be since they are selling 4k chips for 0.6k or at least that was what some of the educated people were guessing about the chips used Roll Eyes
1383  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: nVidia GeForce GTX 680 Specs leaked on: March 06, 2012, 08:45:07 PM
So it sounds like they're going the many stream processors route too huh?

Again AFAIK this is supposed to be the mid-range card, right?

Yes. That is what it seems like.

I REALLY am hoping they come out with the 4608 shader monster.

Screw 7990. If I can boycott AMD for their crap drivers I will do it.

Really praying here that Nvidia is a decent miner !
1384  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Press Release - TradeHill, Inc. Files Suit Against Dwolla, Inc. on: March 06, 2012, 07:30:59 PM
Besides these direct damages, TradeHill is also claiming damages resulting from Dwolla's actions, including the harm to TradeHill's reputation and the loss of bitcoin.com, a very valuable domain.
WTF how does this happen? Didn't have enough cash on hand to pay a $10 renewal fee to the registrar? Please enlighten me, and correct me if I am wrong.

No, that wouldn't be forgivable. We acquired the domain and as part of the deal we were contractually obligated to keep the exchange running. When we decided to shut the exchange down we returned the domain to the original owner who I believe is going to do good things with it. It will revert over in a few days most likely.

-Jered

Who is this so-called "owner" ?

Satoshi maybe Shocked
1385  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: I think one of my GPUs has the the dreaded electromigration. on: March 06, 2012, 07:28:09 PM
On one of my rigs I kept noticing the same GPU (#4 grr) going DEAD.  I lowered the clock, dead, lowered clock, dead. Finally put it at only 750 Mhz it was fine for a couple days and then I noticed it dead again.

I verified it now is no longer stable @ even 750.   Three "dead"s in 24 hours.  I dropped it to 725 (stock) and it has been stable for almost a day now (will update post for longer periods of testing).  So far just that one core on one rig (1 of 48 gpus) dislikes even moderate overclock.  The other GPU on the same card is fine @ 800 MHz.  At higher overclocks the "bad core" dies almost instantly.  Those two facts and a 1200W single rail PSU design make me think it isn't a power issue.

This is a very old card (over a year old need to lookup sales date).  It was one of the first 5970s I bought, and it is what convinced me to replace all my other GPUs with 5970s to consolidate my growing farm.  It has never been overvolted but last summer it did run "hot" for about a month before I bought a mini-split system to supplement the house main AC.  It has run overclocked but nothing crazy.  I ran it (guestimates) 835 early on.  I dropped all the clocks to 820 and then 800 once I got up to 6 rigs because micro managing them became a hassle.   I can't try overvolting at this point (which can "restore" performance on circuits suffer electromigration) because it is in a Linux rig.

Other than 3 fan failures (and me dropping a motherboard down the stairs) this is the first casualty of mining I have had.   As our GPUs get older I wonder if anyone else has noticed something similar.

Does it happen at different mem clocks too?
How high were the temperatures (vrms too)?

That is the important bit here : Linux does not properly support overvolting ( discard effects of EM aftewards ) / undervolting ( prevent EM in first place ) and reading VRM temps for 5870 / 5970.

That sucks and needs to be fixed. Sad
1386  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: nVidia GeForce GTX 680 Specs leaked on: March 06, 2012, 07:27:01 PM
So will this mine ?

If it does mine properly then I hit NIRVANA !

That remains to be seen.  But yeah I've always been an nVidia fan first and foremost, so if it can mine, I'll be all up ons.

It is not even about being a fan or not.

People that are fanboying for a specific brand are tools.

I buy whatever is best for my needs, regardless of the brand.

I am sick of having to choose only AMD GPUs for mining.

So many troubles etc.

Quote
As previous rumours suggested, GTX 680 will feature 1536 SP and 256-bit memory. However, contrary to rumours, NVIDIA has retained the shader hotclock, although the Kepler shaders could be significantly different from its Fermi counterparts which makes it difficult to predict performance. The core will be clocked at 705 MHz and the shaders at 1411 MHz, retaining the 2x shader hotclock from Fermi. GK104 significantly improves upon GF110/GF114's memory controller, setting a new record for reference memory clock at 6 GHz. This equates to a memory bandwidth of 192 GB/s - exactly the same as GTX 580 despite the narrower memory bus.

As we have witnessed from previously leaked PCB pictures, the GTX 680 will sport 4 display outputs - stacked dual DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort. GK104's die appears to be slightly smaller than Tahiti but significantly larger than Pitcairn. Two SLI connectors will enable upto 3-way SLI. However, the experimental stacked PCI-e power inputs may not make it to the final production graphics cards. GTX 680 will be 10 inches long, which is longer than GTX 560 Ti or HD 7870 but shorter than HD 7950 or GTX 570. The general visual appearance will be reminiscent of GTX 570, albeit more compact with a repositioned fan. The rear end will be similar to HD 5800 or HD 6900, with identical outputs and a blocked exhaust.

NVIDIA will reveal details about GTX 680 in an event on 12th March, with a hard launch rumoured for 23rd March - days after HD 7800's release.

No more CPU bug BS, AMD SDK performance drop, need to have xserver active, 8 limit hardcoded ... ( WTF where they thinking over at FailMD ) !?
1388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Whats your litecoin hash rate on: March 06, 2012, 06:12:45 PM
About 550 khash/s on a 5970 using the Reaper V13 demo:)

550 kH/s gets you around 270 LTC/day.

That same 5970 could be mining at 820 MH/s for nearly .6 BTC/day ... which you can turn around and just buy 450 LTC.

Hmm, 270 LTC or 450 LTC.  Hard choice Tongue

Yeah.  I'm not following the LTC-GPU logic train.

I think a lot of bitcoiners are pathological liars who actually trick themselves to believe that they're profiting.

They will be when LTC hits the 0.25 BTC price target in a couple of months !

We have those racks at my workplace (US).  So yeah, suppose it's a worldwide phenomenon.  Tongue

OK. Maybe a coincidence.

I still am looking for that Rig Box. Grin

Maybe some pictures of just the case so we can establish a scale or imagine how big it will be etc. Huh

Don't worry, I'll post some pics when they arrive.  Grin

You ordered more than 1 Shocked

1391  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 25 Computers to use for mining on: March 06, 2012, 05:17:35 PM
I have 25 computers that i can use to mine coins, i think most of them are running  ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro's. Do you think its worth it to mine using them, free electricity too. It's in my school, how could i set it up without disturbing the people using the computer's.

Thanks Smiley

Hope you get permanent exclusion.

I bet the taxpayers that are paying your school's electricity are not going to be very happy ...
1392  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series Specs Revealed in Leak on: March 06, 2012, 05:15:04 PM
Legit Reviews and Anandtech were able to reach 1050MHz on the reference 7850 with stock volts (max OC in CCC), and techpowerup got to 1140MHz core on the 7850. If you're not overclocking the ram like these site do, I would guess 1GHz is possible on all but the worst cards. Given it's low power draw, it might be a pretty good card.

I think you know they get special picked chips to make a good impression for the reviewer / public Roll Eyes
1393  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL Single in the wild (BOUNTY RECEIVED!!!) on: March 06, 2012, 05:13:37 PM
I'll just leave this here as eye candy for you guys Wink

(was just sent this by BFL via email, pic of their burn-in/testing rack right now)

Real strange.

I have exactly the same type of rack ( only different polish on surface ).

Is this in the UK / EU or they have exactly the same racks in the US Huh

1394  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: LargeCoin Pricing Announced; Taking Pre-Orders on: March 05, 2012, 11:34:38 PM
WTH, I swear I read it as 200 GHash/s performance Huh 20 ghash/s from ASIC seems low as hell.

So the Rig Box would own this POS !?

The Rig Box does 2.5 times more hashes, but at 10 times the electricity per hash. It comes down to what you value more, hash/$ performance or hash/watt performance.

Lets be honest, neither of these exist on the market and until there is an actual unit available for either of them we are all just throwing numbers around Wink

Exactly.

They mentioned all the data is based upon simulations ...

We all remember BFL claiming 1 ghash/s at 20 W and it turns out to be 800 mhash/s at 80 W

Simulations are not worth jack.
1395  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: LargeCoin Pricing Announced; Taking Pre-Orders on: March 05, 2012, 11:29:55 PM
200 Mhash per watt? If you can deliver the hardware at that spec, you will obliterate the competition.

Don't forget that you are paying $1500/Ghash. Also, ttul why are the units "tied" to your hosting?

Anyway, it's great to see something like this coming up. Congratulations and thanks for all the hard work.

Price is $30 000 not 300 000.

They are only paying $150 for a GH/s performance.

Blows everything out of the water if real IMHO.

Mathematics.com , its $1500 per GH ie. $1500 x 20 = 20GH or $30 000 Tongue

WTH, I swear I read it as 200 GHash/s performance Huh Only 20 ghash/s from ASIC ( $1500/GHash ) seems low as hell when BFL supposedly does 50 ghash/s at same price using FPGA technology which is worse than a fully custom ASIC that LargeCoin claims to be using.

So the Rig Box would own this POS !?

Is this the second unicorn project Roll Eyes

Even BFL appears to be WAY more legit than this cheap PR trick.

Who is ordering Grin ?

20 GHash/s at 100W only possible with dedicated ASIC.

You think they have the $$$ millions needed for that ?

I doubt it ... Roll Eyes

What's the latest Matthew?

Just about 4-6 weeks left ... Cheesy

Is the BFL single reviewed in the magazine March Edition or not by Vladimir ?

Thanks !
1399  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs - Bitforce Single and Rig Box on: March 05, 2012, 08:05:02 PM
Rig box is months (12+ weeks) away based on PM from BFL  Angry
Actually, since so much of the rig box is based off the Single, this makes sense.  I kind of assumed that the rig box would need a virtual architectural overhaul based on the experience gained on the Single.  BFL or BFL-Engineer please correct if not accurate, don't mean to spread FUD.

Yeah that still does not explain how 32 singles are able to get 50 GHash/s ... Roll Eyes

Any other guys from the UK got their order Huh

Thanks !
