Well for me, I dont mind not knowing which block I found, just would be cool to have an email that gets sent to me each time I find a block (counter goes +1). This way I can happy happy joy joy dance when I know I got extra coins comin heh

I think you are confused about how POOLED mining works. you do not get anything extra when your workers find a block.
Correc me eif I'm wrong, bu the person who finds the block gets transaction fees which AFAIK is everything after the 25., so joee blow finds a block with value of 25.05308509

So he gets his fair pool share then the .05308509.

Hey Eleuthria,
I know this is probably a slightly stupid request but... would you consider implementing a feature that emails a user is they found a block ?

This is something that may be implemented, but will require backend updates.  BTC Guild does not track which blocks a user has solved, it merely increases a counter when a block solving share is discovered.  ScryptGuild is going to have a lot of changes to the backend in the coming weeks, one of which is including which block was solved instead of just bumping up a counter.

Speaking of ScryptGuild:  The Alpha has launched.  Users can register, but the exact URL is only given out in IRC in order to make sure the people using it are able to report anything that doesn't look right/doesn't work right to me in chat immediately.  You can join #scryptguild in IRC to get information on how to register and start mining.

Bandwidth doesn't matter for mining but Latency does.  High lag can manifest in more rejects.

Ping your Avalon from your computer on the network over wifi.  If your pings come back lower than 5ms (some of my miners on an optimized wifi bridge link get 1ms or less), you should be ok. If it's higher, a wired connection will benefit your setup.

It is worth a shot, yes, but a little late in the day (10pm) to run wire, family gettin ready for bed so I'll do it tomorrow but I am curious as to other peoples thoughts on the matter.

Mining does not use a lot of bandwidth so wired or wireless shouldn't make a difference. (i think)
It's not about the bandwidth, my thought on this is the direct connection vs the time it takes to send and receive on wireless, especially without knowing the kind of NIC in the Avalon and the anywhere from 30-40 signale strength to the machine.

I know this is probably a stupid question but when I first hookd up the avalon it seemed like I was getting waaaay more shares wired. Then I wen to wireless because I couldnt stand the noise of the machine. Well, I do have a 150' Cat5 I can run to the laundry where he machines at so I'm curious on your thoughts, do you think I might get more shares if I wire it back ?

I've been mining for over a day and a half so I hopee I'm still connectd to the backend mining.

Is the timer for scryptguild incorrect or did you add another day to your timeline?

There was an extra day added.  I'm doing some pre-alpha testing via IRC (#scryptguild) to iron out a few of the kinks before doing a public alpha.

In addition to he above which is still a big wow for me right now, how long does it usually take a freshly added miner to even out the 24hr avg earnings ?

32 hours, since your 24-hour earnings doesn't include the 10 open shifts (which is ~8 hours).
So sometime tomorrow after 12pm since that would put it around the 36hr mark, cool.
1611  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can the wifi antennas be replaced on the Avalons ? on: February 07, 2014, 08:04:26 AM
and heres a good example of what i means by male and female ..

my wifi router will accept the 1st one however my antminer will only accept the 2nd one..  you use to be able to find adapters  But depending on where you are it might be a bit of a problem finding a hardcore electronics store.  your current antenna should unscrew off right ? unscrew it and see which end is on there

also depending on who your cable provider is  they may be able to just run you a NIM ( they look like the older cable modems) to your laundry room and then you can run a switch off that and cat 5 from there ( its what i did in my garage)  the best part about that for me at least was that it was treated like a service call and didnt cost my anything.

the downside is the tech guy you'll talk to on the phone wont have an idea what your talking about and you will need to actually talk to the technician when he shows up.. ( i called and told them i needed another cable drop to get them to send someone to my house)
I'm fine with WiFi and would rather not have anything else drilled. As for the current antenna, as I said, there isn't one that is visible unless it's the small wire comin out the back with the LED on it.

Had some off and on issues with an avalon during setup but it's been goin steady now for 5hrs and change as well as four full shifts and I think three to four blocks.

I know it won happen in a matter of minutes or even a few hrs, but I am curious how long it usually takes the 14hr average to settle down.

So far I've seen it do this... no worries or anythin, just woulda figured it would have continued to go up, I know there's a lot of factors that go into earings but all the calcs I've looked at said my 24hr / daily earnings should be around 0.02 - 0.04.

0.00013350
0.00013522 + 0.00000172
0.00013161 - 0.00000361

the other option is hawking

I know the Defcon crowd use to use them for the yearly wardriving contest back in the day  I have not played with their resent stuff but not to long ago they had some pretty decent antennas.

Are you trying to just replace the antenna or get better signal?

I really do miss the old days when you could goto radio shack and simply pick stuff like this up over the counter.. now its all cell phones RC cars and batteries
Little bit of both, I get a good enough signal so it lets me put the noisy basterd downstairs in the laundry area.

Just found these two things, antennas high gain, wont know if the wire bit will work though until I crack her open tomorrow to find out how the current wifi works.

1614  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can the wifi antennas be replaced on the Avalons ? on: February 07, 2014, 07:25:38 AM
I'm not sure about the avalons but i've made a cantenna for the antminer and it still works .. all things being equal i  dont see why you couldnt do the same thing here

if you can find them you can sometimes find "high gain " wifi antennas in electronics stores but i'm not sure if the connector is male for female .. on the antminer it was male and the antenna is female.

That's why I would also buy the port, would just need to drill a hole for it, so I guess you would say I'd be after a complete upgrade kit.
1615  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can the wifi antennas be replaced on the Avalons ? on: February 07, 2014, 06:58:38 AM
.. i dont own one but I really cant see why not .. if you strip it the plastic away you'll see its really just wire.. i dont see why something else can be made rather quickly
I'm just curious to know if I'm right about the existing antenna being the wire with the LED on it.

Will have to crack it open tomorrow and look all the while trying not to burn myself lol.
1616  Bitcoin / Mining support / Can the wifi antennas be replaced on the Avalons ? on: February 07, 2014, 05:59:43 AM
Ok, so I like the fact the machines wifi ready right out of the box but for the life of me cannot find the existing antenna. I can only assume it's part of the wire coming off the back with the LED. Assumin I'm right, I dont need the LED bit so the whole wire could get tossed.

If it is somehow replaceable I'd like to get somethingg way better like whats seen on the below pictured machine (not mine, ebay image).

So ya, anyone ever replace an antenna on an Avalon or at least look in to it out of curiosity ?

I am trying to reach you to try to help you out.
Just go of the phone with the company and they suggested somethin I'm gonna try, will post back.
1620  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: So how do I not blow up the couple grand I just spent ? on: February 06, 2014, 11:18:42 PM
So this things noisy as fuck which I can live with but now I feel like I wasted my god damn money.

Was reading this since it's the link the link the seller gave me. All seemed to be going well, then I got in to the network tab to change the IP stuff. Well, apparently I accidentally hit Unmanaged and saved and now I can't get back in to the damn thing. When I visit the IP address, I get he black screen with the LuCI line of text and then nothing.

So is this thing freakin bricked now ?

Apparently it has some form of an rPi board. If I could somehow factory reset it I might be ok, I did notice next to the ethernet there's a mini USB port w/e it's used for.
