1761  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How do you get free power? on: December 22, 2015, 11:17:54 PM
I don't imagine you will find much free power around... How is your search going for free bitcoins?

I know that in Australia, you can now lease solar panels,  perhaps this could be the sort of solution you are looking for.  I have also seen offers like 60 months interest free, on solar panels.  Would 5 years be enough free energy to pay off the panels?
Despite all that, i doubt whether it would be worth it $wise (even with free power), I mean there are now mining companies listed on the ASX, who do nothing but mine.  Unless you're planning on playing for real money, probs best not to bother!

If you have free electricity, ROI is extremely easy and pretty much guaranteed. You can't lose money mining BTC with free electricity, so its kind of a life hack that make it so you always earn BTC.

Unless you do stupid things like buy a USB miner for 3000USD.
1762  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Beginning of mining and hardware investment. on: December 22, 2015, 11:09:02 PM
I just looked closely at my electric bill and my kwh charge is actually .07257 and a .03194 delivery charge with a few other little taxes here and there. The .14kwh rate I just got from a local Google search. So my rate is .10 per kwh.
Even starting out I just don't want to use something with a smaller hash rate, just like you wouldn't go NASCAR racing in a golf cart.

Thats not really how it works. Its about how much you pay $/gh. And how much you pay for your electricity.

So with your .10 per kWh on a S7, you would profit for 6 months, having paid 40% back of the unit + PSU, then spend as much as you earn for the next few, and then the halving halve your BTC return and you're left with units worth little and 600 USD loss per unit.  8% Diff raise, stable BTC price.

Much appreciated!
Yep new user spotted on the tube nonce 'proxy' an hour or so ago
There's only a few so it's easy to see Smiley

The (my) tubes have been running fully stable since i put them on the "nonce 'proxy'", no problem whatsoever. At this point i'd say anyone that has tubes or prisma, as in anyone that use those BE Controller dump Ghash/whatever and move them to Kano.

No upside not to that i can see now. Kano has the best performance.

Kudos.

Got a bunch of these. Is there any interest out there? Located in Central WA, USA. Will not ship and no guarantees that they work. Thanks

They might have good values in the Sidehack's trade in program if that ever take off. There was talk of making pods using stripped BM1384 and the solid state caps on the S1's boards are apparently worth salvaging them.

The thread is here;
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1203190.msg13231681#msg13231681

I recommend you keep an eye on it. Smiley

RichBC the thing is that the problem is not only S5+ related, but it's more like "Bitmain related", that's why I did post it in multiple threads where I saw discussion about  their products.

Thank you for offering to troubleshoot the problem, I really do appreciate it, but I just don't want to go over it again...I've spent like 3 months trying to resolve that issue and I'll leave it that way, don't give a sh*t about it anymore ....

I'm so pissed off with those morons that I will never EVER buy a single piece of crap they sell!!! You can't treat customers like that!

OK have it your way, it's your money. Just a pity that you chose over the last 4 Months to rely on Bitmain for support & not use this Forum and the wealth of experience that exists here to perhaps find a solution to your reduced Hash Rate....

Dont bother, not dealing with a Rational adult here. Already asked him to tone it down and already offered to help and he has pretty much just spat in my face. Not quite sure him getting banned for spamming is going to help his issue either.

We are not Bitmain, so i don't see why we're getting the hate.

@VirosaGITS
Not cool man ! Nobody spat at anyone's face as far as I understand English (although not my mother language)
I said I can't deal with it right now , I don't have time for it since I work for 12+ hrs every day! Maybe if things change a little bit - I will give it a try again!
I also politely said "thank you" to the people that offered their knowledge&experience to help me out, so I really don't see the need for such a comment .

You did spam the forum across several boards, copy pasted your wall of rage all over, and then reply with rage-induced words at a couple of replies you got to them, while replying stuff like "Its not about troubleshooting anymore, its about Bitmain sucking!!!1111".

You're posting your rant all over, to people who want to help you, when your rant has nothing to do with these people, nor are any of us related to Bitmain, this is not Bitmain's forum.

You seem to have plenty of time to reply to posts, to complain further, for someone who does not have time to reply to the inquiries of people who wish to help you.

I just don't see why you keep posting over and over, wasting your time and some other's, since you dont actually seem to want to get anything constructive done. That is why my latest replies to you has been harsh.

If you want help with the S5+, i and other's all are available to help you as time allow and i'm listening right now. But if you don't want any kind of help from users, i just don't get why you keep posting about it.
1766  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Beginning of mining and hardware investment. on: December 22, 2015, 10:08:20 PM
The hardware portion I understand. I already have 240 volt at my house, 50mbit line and live in a cold climate most of the year so thats not an issue. I want to know where to start reading as far as the software portion goes.

There's no reading to do, you just plug your ethernet cable into the miner, use any networked device with a web browser to enter the miner's IP and input the pool you want it to mine at and you're done.

Pretty sure the documentation on the miner covers everything, if using a web browser and filling some fields is alien to you. But, being here and typing on this forum is harder than configuring your miner.
1767  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: December 22, 2015, 10:05:54 PM
My miners arrived, and got stuck at the customs Sad. They are asking for the invoice (proof of payment) but i still havent heard from Bitmain. I opened a ticket on Friday. I called in USA support, talked about 10min and no help from that guy!!! What should i do guys?

You should have received an email with proof of payment that shows bitcoin converted into USD shortly after you purchased them.  Simply print it and show it to them.

EDIT:  I have noticed my most recent invoice from BITMAIN only shows BTC for payment and no USD conversion.  Maybe the BTC will be sufficient.
I cant give them the BTC invoice, they need the dollar invoice. Fuuuu im screwed

They could care less what the invoice looks like. Make your own invoice, slap the Bitmain logo on it and print it. Obviously throw a little common sense in the mix. Send them all back to CHINA!

Just take the Bitmain invoice and translate the BTC value by adding an USD value next to them, and give them the exchange rate somewhere on the page. But i don't think this is something you can do at the door. At least it is not over here. You have to fill forms and crap and request a re-evaluation and ask for a refund. Heh.

People get mad when were talking about spending good money on  products.  I got lucky my S5+ is still running good today no issues.   So he got a dud... which is not fun for anyone.  At this point I'm guessing it's out of warranty so doubt they do much.

They have moved on to S7's I would be surprised if they had many S5+ parts still with it being so limited production.

It is possible he did, but i see a lot of people complaining about low hashrate and high error rate and then they reveal they run the thing on a crap PSU. I might of missed one of his messages since he posted/spammed all over the forum, but he never replied to the post where i asked him that information, afaik.

Instead of building up rage for months, he should of came to us a long time ago.
1769  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Beginning of mining and hardware investment. on: December 22, 2015, 09:59:43 PM
is there a read a.k.a guide on what this bare minimum is?
Ive played with the calculators and with my local kilowatt hour at .14 its calculating a $2800 profit annually per S7. Of course thats a "perfect world" scenario and in no way guarantees anything, but still keeps me interested and wanting to join the "rat race" for bitcoins.
But before spending actually $ on hardware, what do I need to know?

You need to use this calculator.
https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

The mining earning changes every 2 ish weeks, because the network re target the difficulty to finding blocks depending on if the network hashrate increased. If you look here;
https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

You will see that the difficulty has increased dramatically, so if you input the difficulty increase at an average of 8%, you will see that you stand to lose a lot with your very high electricity rate.

You'd be better off using hosting services that does 0.08-0.09 and those are still expensive as they run at that cost to make money off you.
1770  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Usb miners that pay more than they consume in power on: December 22, 2015, 08:05:14 PM
the question if it pays electricity

Others questions are:
How much do you pay for electricity?
How much do you pay the usb miners?

It pays for electricity, unless you have crazy high electricity costs. But if you're trying to ROI, this is more or less a good pick. Its a great USB miner, but profiting in mining Bitcoin lies elsewhere.

I'm betting another double digit raise and then probably high single digit for a while, maybe until spring.
1772  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Enermax TwisterStorm on: December 22, 2015, 07:48:43 PM
The damned Sleeve bearing crap I've had to deal with wasn't "my pick" - they're FAR too common on video cards, and in power supplies, and I've had to replace WAY too many of the MANY DIFFERENT BRANDS of that sort of crap over the decades.

The fact that they NEED "cleaned" so damned often should be a bad sign in and of itself - I don't remember the last time I had to "clean" ANY ball-bearing design fan out, they just keep running and running and running and they don't DIE AND TAKE VALUABLE COMPUTER GEAR WITH THEM WHEN IT OVERHEATS BECAUSE THEY DIED VERY YOUNG.

YOU are the one that said "suddenly" - I realise quite well that the gear will usually survive a short while after the fan dies and lets the gear start overheating.

You also ASSUME that I only have 1 or 2 fans running - I can just look behind me and see at least 20, ONE fan going out is not going to change the noise level in my computer/miner gear room noticeable at all.

If a sleeve bearing fan actually LASTED a year reliably, it wouldn't be so bad - but I've had WAY too many of the cheap pieces of junk die on me in a few MONTHS of use, sometimes *A* month of use. They are NOT reliable. They do NOT last. They are shit by design. There is a REASON they are cheap.

Like i said, i clean a few of them over a period of a year, and since i have software monitoring my temps, its very obvious when something has been 10c over the rest for months, its time to clean it.

They make a distinct rattling noise, just like the delta you favor so much when they get dirty. I have such fans at a different location too.

When one fail its not like its going to damage the miner either, every single miner app has temp protection, and it should not get that far anyways considering you have months to clean it when it start under performing. Also the fact i have 2 to 4 fans on every different miner and RPM is tracked on all of them.

If you want to use noisy fan, thats all up to you, but that does not make my choice of keeping my mine in the 30-40dB range a shit choice.
1773  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain Technologies ,- very slow refund on: December 22, 2015, 03:41:04 AM
If they paid you in Bitcoin, they wouldn't need to find a bank that is open.

I have accounts with 3 different conventional banks, any one of them will allow me to make payments at any hour of the day or night.

I haven't really heard of Bitmain giving refunds either. Typically when someone say "I'm going to go tell them to give me my money back." they usually get answers like "Good luck with that."

I'm not sure whats up with Bitmain lately, i didnt have a problem with them earlier this year.
1774  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5+ is available to order, 7.722TH/S 0.445J/GH on: December 22, 2015, 03:38:30 AM

1775  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain shipping policy on: December 22, 2015, 03:07:54 AM
Batch 9 has even lower price.. 1180.47$ I suppose they want to get rid of all the chips because 16nm is on the way..

More like they realise that by the time the Batch 9 units ship, they'll have serious competition AND they're going to be impossible to RoI at the older overcharge price even with VERY VERY cheap electric.

It does appear that the "28nm full custom" generation is going to have a rather short profitable lifetime - the units of that generation came out WAY too close to the halfing, and it looks like the first 14/16nm "available to the public" gear should be out before the halfing as well.

I'm thinking of waiting and just pick off some S7's for 600-800$ in a month or two. The difficulty is still climbing and the latest S7 batches are inferior in efficiency to the latest, so i don't really see the S7's being worth all that much before long. I hope those who bought at 2k+ got their 1k+ return already.
1776  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: buy coupon per batch 8 urgent on: December 22, 2015, 03:05:42 AM
buy coupons for S7,
Payment only with commitment, or send the coupons before and after you pay,
just last night I received a scam diodio1 user, and I'm not going to fall back into the trap.

These are my terms.

sorry for my clarity.

You've been scammed several times, now. Why not start using Escrow? Why ask people to fill their ends of the bargain, first?
1777  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: December 21, 2015, 08:03:35 PM
Do not buy.

High custom tax (in europe).

Very short warranty (3 months).

Very poor customer care.

Miners may break after a few months.

Couldn't agree more.

They actually pump the invoice more so you pay even higher custom taxes

They don't care about customers at all, all they care is they make profits

The build quality of the miners is awfull, it's a machine worth 100-200$ not 1500 $

Bitmain's support SUCKS big time !!!

I received the S5+ (7.7T SUPPOSEDLY) at the beginning of September and I immediately opened a support ticket (5th of Sep.) because the results I got with the miner were AWFUL !
I was waiting for 10+ days for a single reply, and each time their reply was asking me "did you do this, did you do that" although I explained in details what I've done, so they were obviously just stalling.
This took like 3 months of Q & A , going into circle with the same questions over and over , to finally notice that beginning December they CLOSED the ticket like it's been solved!!! I re-opened the ticket 10 days ago - and guess what - NO reply yet !!!

They didn't offer ANY solution for the whole time !!!
They tried to put the blame on the PSU's, so I bought 3 new 1600w PSU's  !!! For nothing !!!
I'm still getting like more than 70.000 HW errors per day showing 6.5T at the max Angry

THE WORST COMPANY WITH THE WORST SUPPORT !!! *E*V*E*R* ! ! !

Hw's are caused for a lot of reasons's if you were to lower your freq they should reduce.

What is your current freq setting?

To be honest, a new PSU does not make it a good PSU. Are you talking about the ones Bitmain sell? The 240v 1600w server PSU?
1778  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Enermax TwisterStorm on: December 21, 2015, 07:47:08 PM
I've had too many Deltas last 10+ years without NEEDING "cleaning".
Can't say if they'll last longer than that, I've still never had a Delta die and the oldest of them I've got would be around 12 years old.

I've had WAY too many shit "sleeve bearing" fans that didn't even make it to ONE year before they jammed up and died - and caused the gear they were on to overheat and die as well.

You're ASSUMING I have only used Deltas on miner gear - I was using them years before Bitcoin EXISTED.
Does "Alpha 8045" mean anything to you?
No, I didn't use the 80cfm screamers, but I do still have some of the one-step down 68CFM Deltas, currently in use in 2u rack-mount cases.

I do miss the days of Rotron metal-frame fans - I've got a couple of those that I bought used back in the 1980s THAT ARE STILL RUNNING.
 THOSE were good, reliable fans.

Also, not all Deltas are super-noisy, just the ones that move massive amounts of air - as are ANY of the few 120mm fan models in the 200CFM+ range from ANY manufacturer.

Clearly, the fact you picked a poor quality ones make all of them crap. Its not like i've had some running silent for 3 years now or anything.(?)

Whenever i clean them (about 3 of them out of 18 each year) they then perform as quiet as ever. I never had a problem with one of them "suddenly stopping and killing whatever it was cooling" They get visibly slow, spin slower, stop faster, make noise and the temp of whatever is cooling will raise. When they start showing tell tale of needing to be cleaned, i have 1-2 months to clean them before they stop.

Its pretty easy to tell, since they are right next to me and i can't ear them. Also if you have 2 on a miner, its not like having 1 slow down is going to kill your miner.
1779  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3+ Discussion and Support Thread on: December 21, 2015, 05:04:01 AM
Ok, here's one for the group.  Has anyone run into issues with the S3+ interfering with over the air TV reception (channels 11 thru 13)?

Wife just made me put a timer on the units so that she can watch the news @ night.

Umm, thats weird, you could probably disable the Wifi, but its so weak, it should not affect anything anyways and if they're not setup, they should not broadcast anyways. Are you using S3 over Wifi?

Then i guess anything could interefere with the weak air TV. Maybe get her real TV?
1780  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bad for Bitcoin scenario question on: December 21, 2015, 04:21:51 AM
they can  buy at a premium price.

then sell low on a second exchange to their own shill.

so price would move to 750 then drop to 180 all in about a week.

They would have to go through all the other people offering Bitcoin in between. Buying out all Bitcoins is possible, but it would be pretty expensive. Though it might more sense as kind of brute attack than attacking the hashrate.

I'm not just sure what would happen when they control most of the Bitcoin since they will just have created rarity.
