1821  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-03-23 yahoo! - BTC Transfer Worth $806M Might Reveal Institutional Purchase on: March 24, 2021, 11:35:52 AM
Two months back, when Tesla purchased Bitcoin from the open market, they had used Coinbase. And in February, Tesla had made it clear that they will purchase Bitcoin at frequent intervals. So I am 80% sure that this was another purchase being made by Tesla. I know that a few other corporations have expressed their interest in accumulating BTC. But I don't think they are ready for Bitcoin yet.
1822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: he pays 5000 € for a bitcoin transfer on: March 24, 2021, 11:19:31 AM
I don't know what is wrong with these people. Check the last block that was mined (#676087). Transactions with a fee of 10 Sat/Byte got confirmed instantly. What is the need to pay a higher transaction fee, when it is not required? It is very rare to see someone paying BTC0.100 as fee for a single transaction. I just hope that he didn't accidentally put the fee as BTC0.100 instead of BTC0.010. Anyway, the large size and huge number of inputs mean that the sender had accumulated coins over a long period of time.
1823  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 24, 2021, 09:43:04 AM
From tomorrow games I don't see any particular interesting game to watch on Tv.The stronger teams are playing against weaker ones so in theory they should win.I am not going to bet though as surprises have happened all the time in the qualifiers.

That's not true. There are a number of matches which can be very close. Check these:

Turkey vs Netherlands
Wales v Belgium
Ukraine v France
Rep of Ireland v Serbia
Croatia v Slovenia

Obviously there are a few one-sided matches, such as Russia v Malta and Norway v Gibraltar. But this is a qualifying tournament, and therefore you can expect a certain number of such matches. The lineup for tomorrow also looks exciting, with these matches:

Greece v Spain
Switzerland v Bulgaria
Iceland v Germany
Austria v Scotland
1824  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Another insane win!! $ 1B mega million jackpot on: March 24, 2021, 05:45:43 AM
He’s one lucky person if he won that huge amount of money and I’d invest them in cryptocurrencies if it was me. That’s what I consider fate, and I’m also sure he’d been in the lottery game for long and may also have spend a lot of money on that. Hopefully he keeps his wealth or maybe invest it in something that’ll make him earn moremoney for his future too although the amount he won is huge already; but you know the mortgages and taxes could be big too.

These sort of jackpots (>$1 billion) only happen once in 4-5 years. Obviously the trick here is not to invest all of that money in any one asset. Because even low-risk assets such as treasury bonds are not 100% safe. It would be better to diversify the investment into several sectors, including real estate, bullion, equity, bank deposits.etc. It will reduce the risk of any of these sectors getting affected my market events.
1825  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 23, 2021, 07:31:28 PM
I wouldn't bet against Turkey that easily, I mean they managed to beat last champion France in the groups, and they managed to get out for euro cup as well, that seems like a thing that could still happen for Netherlands as well. Don't get me wrong I think Netherlands is the better team here, but I also assumed Turkey would lose to France as well but they didn't.

So that is why I think it will definitely be the most exciting game of tomorrow, because we do not know which Turkey will show up, the one that missed world cup, or the one that beat France? Both of them are different ones and that is why I think it is going to be a bit different this year. Slovenia and Croatia will be a close one as well if you ask me and Serbia Ireland game could be close as well, I just do not know what will happen with those three games, they look closer than anything else.

Bet365 has Turkey at 10/3, and Netherlands at 3/4. It is really surprising. I would not agree with these odds. The gambling sites are under-estimating Turkey. A good strategy would be to place two bets on this match. One for a win by Turkey (10/3, i.e 4.33) and the second one for draw (14/5 or 3.80). I believe that there is a very high chance for either of these two outcomes. BTW, France vs Ukraine also looks interesting.

1826  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 23, 2021, 07:22:31 PM
@Vishnu.Reang this match proves the proverb right i.e. slow and steady wins the race, here team India posted only 65 runs in 15 overs but made sure they understood the pitch well before accelerating their innings, however England decided to fire right from the start and then started to play in overconfidence. Furthermore do you’ll believe that dew is no longer a factor, because even with India bowling second they managed to pick 10 wickets for the victory?.

There is nothing wrong with the England strategy of going all guns blazing in the initial overs. The Indian bowlers were hit left right and the center and made in to pulp. Both the pacers and spinners looked demoralized at that point. But then none of the middle order or lower order batsmen could continue the good work which was done by Roy and Bairstow. They started defending and the Indian bowlers made a grand comeback.
1827  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-03-16][ET]What’s India’s beef with Bitcoin, really? on: March 23, 2021, 10:56:15 AM
May I comment too? I think is all about historical heritage here  Grin Indians love gold and they can't understand that now there is a better form of gold that is not physical and that is called bitcoin. I know is intangible and you can't make jewels or spray your knobs with it but this is it.
I agree with others, let them remain behind the times.

From what I have heard, the government has been quite hostile to gold. One of the first policies after after the ruling party came to power in 2014 was to rise the excise duty of gold to 10% (and they increased it later to 12%). But this proved to be a short-sighted approach and there was a huge spike in gold smuggling from Gulf nations and the neighboring countries. Eventually they were forced to reduce the duty to 7.5%.
1828  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 23, 2021, 10:46:31 AM
As for the upcoming matches - we'll see a lot of interesting games with unpredictable results... For example Turkey-Netherlands - bookmakers prefer the Dutch, although in my opinion, the Turks are not any worse!
In general, I'm looking forward to the tournament!

Turkey vs Netherlands is going to be the most exciting match in this round. Netherlands is one of the strongest European sides and in normal circumstances this should be a cakewalk for them. But they will have to put in a lot of effort this time, because Turkey is also in excellent form. Recently, Turley held Germany and Croatia to draws. However, in their last match they were defeated by Hungary.
1829  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 23, 2021, 10:06:28 AM
A few more failures and they will be out of the team forever unless they come out with some outstanding performance in the domestic circuit.
Nonsense. Dhawan and Rahul are two of the biggest assets in the Indian team currently. They won't be dismissed just because of a couple of failures in my opinion.

The so called assets (especially Dhawan) are rather turning out to be a burden to team India. The question is not whether Dhawan is an asset or not. The question here is why he is being given so many opportunities, when the younger players are dropped after just one bad match. Kohli has made the Indian team his personal fiefdom with his selection bias and nepotism. The younger players are being treated very harshly.
1830  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 23, 2021, 08:20:53 AM
Even during the T20 series, England won the toss 4 out of 5 times. And here also, England captain won the toss. I don't know why Virat Kohli is so unlucky when it comes to winning the toss. Back in Australia also he lost the toss most of the times. Anyway, India has started "cautiously", with Dhawan and Rohit. The England pace attack looks a bit blunt, in the absence of Jofra Archer. Mark Wood performs best, when Archer is bowling from the other end.
1831  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: March 23, 2021, 07:56:32 AM
Poverty cannot be erased from the world at least not this one. There will always be rich and poor people like prey and predator relationship. It gives balance to the ecosystem. If you try to upset this system by pumping in money to the "poor people", a high percentage would still come back to square one.

Poverty may exist. But it is possible to eradicate extreme poverty. China has done that. They have managed to completely eliminate extreme poverty. There are still poor people in China, but these people can afford good food and basic amenities. But that is not the case in most of the third world nations. Take India for example. Extreme poverty has actually increased there, as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic. The same can be said about most of the Sub-Saharan nations.
1832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.K. Bitcoin trader to Pay $572 Million Penalty for perpetrating a Ponzi Scheme on: March 23, 2021, 07:31:01 AM
Another example of classical crypto-based PONZI scheme, which was very frequent during the 2013-17 period. I myself fell victim to a few of such schemes during 2013 and lost huge amounts of my hard earned money in them. These people always think that the law enforcement authorities can't touch them. After perpetrating scams, they simply migrate to some other country, where they will again do the same thing. It is heartening to know that the law has caught up to at least one among the tens of thousands of scammers.
1833  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 23, 2021, 07:20:58 AM
Although I love to watch football tournaments, I don't like to watch this current world cup because this event is founded in blood of the slaves in Qatar that died during the creation of the stadium that is going to be used in the tournament, I am shocked that there are still slaves in this modern era, I guess Middle East doesn't really surprise me considering that they have the bloodiest conquest in history back in Medieval times.

I am not a fan of working conditions in various GCC nations, but it would be wrong to call the workers as slaves. They went there on their own, without any compulsion. For someone from Nepal or India, earning 5 times their average salary sounds very attractive. And many would happily opt for it, despite the known risk factors. Thousands of workers lost their lives, and tens of thousands suffered life threatening injuries. It is up to FIFA to make sure that these people are properly compensated.
1834  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19, Lockdown and repercussions on: March 23, 2021, 07:10:13 AM
Limiting all activities is of course very detrimental for the middle and lower class here, the government requires working from home that only applies to those who have their own businesses who can use an internet connection or office workers who can complete their tasks on a computer screen
For middle class workers such as daily workers, entrepreneurs, small traders, of course, will be greatly affected by the restrictions caused by this pandemic

For blue collar workers, working from home is not available. Unless the COVID 19 spread is extremely high, the government needs to allow these people to work in their respective facilities. Ideally, they should be vaccinated before this. But right now none of the countries are having enough doses to vaccinate the non-priority groups. However, if they wear masks properly and maintain social distancing, then the chance of getting infected can be reduced.
1835  Economy / Economics / Re: Biden planning first tax hike(major) since 1993 on: March 23, 2021, 06:59:27 AM
Those numbers are always talking about as household income, if you thought otherwise that's on you for not understanding since that's the common way taxes are always talked about.  Biden always said households making more than $400,000.

For someone who earns $400,000 per year, the applicable state income tax in California comes to 11.3%. With the latest increase in federal income tax, California residents will be paying more than 50% of their income as tax and the net take away will be less than $200,000. And for cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, given the high cost of living, the tax increase will have a large negative impact on the quality of life.
1836  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An Indian casino in New York? on: March 23, 2021, 06:22:42 AM
I thought the Indians that you were talking about are those that are in India, I hope that you will change that to Native Americans because there is some confusion. Hopefully, they are going to become a successful casino but considering that Americans have a prejudice towards these people, I think that they are going to have a problem but if they persevere, they might be able to becoming an established casino. By the way aren't there a limit as to how many casinos there is in a city?

There are some legal issues, and it has nothing to do with prejudice. First of all, the tribe needs license from the state government to operate a casino. And the state government has refused to give permission, because the tribe in question (Shinnecock Indian Nation) is not recognized by the state government, although it is federally recognized. The state government believe that they are faking the indigenous identity, just to get permission to operate the casino (in the state of New York, casinos are not permitted outside Indian reservations).

Bangladesh has given a target of 272 runs to New Zealand. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl. They may have thought that Bangladesh would have a batting disaster like in the first math. But that did not happen. Bangladesh has played well enough. If Bangladesh bowlers are able to perform their duties properly, maybe Bangladesh will be able to win the match.

Bangladesh was in trouble initially. When Mushfiqur Rahim got out, they were 184/4 after 40.3 overs. But in the remaining 9.3 overs, they managed to score at a rate of 10 runs per over, as a result of power hitting from Mohammad Mithun. The New Zealand bowlers conceded too many runs in the end. James Neesham in particular was very expensive. Anyway, New Zealand is struggling now. They are at 57/3.
1838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Can Dogecoin reach 1$ soon? on: March 22, 2021, 07:16:45 PM
DOGE is currently going up and everyone is excited about it. As we have seen numerous times in the past, when a particular cryptocurrency goes up, most of the users ignore the fundamentals and keep holding on to their coins believing that it will go up even further. And when the crash comes, they will be completely unprepared. If DOGE can go up 5x as a result of a single tweet, then it can also crash by 90% from a single tweet. Always remember this before investing in DOGE.
1839  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: insane fees on eth (uniswap) on: March 22, 2021, 07:06:51 PM
It is killing the small time traders and bounty hunters. If you were paid in a bounty having a 100$ worth and the eth gas is in 20$ or so + after exchange the withdrawal fee is much likely to be that high. Lucky are those who have big trading portfolios.

As such there is no solution for this. The fee has remained at extremely high level for more than four months now, and the indications are that it will remain like that for for the remainder of this year. I feel bad about the bounty hunters. But they need to look for alternatives. They can contact the bounty manager and request a single ERC-20 recipient address for a large number of hunters. This would make it more affordable to convert the tokens to ETH. Once the tokens are converted to ETH, they can split up the ETH among themselves.
1840  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 22, 2021, 06:52:43 PM
Same story every year, Indian team is cash cow for BCCI and other boards so their schedule is heavily packed no matter what. I think we're are going to see rotation policy soon for all 3 format. Majority of premiere player might get fair amount of rest during SL/Zim and Asia cup if it happens.

Ideally India should not be playing against Zimbabwe, as the latter doesn't even have a stable team now. But since the tour is finalized, I would like the BCCI to send a young team led by Shreyas Iyer. The top players (Kohli, Rohit, Bumrah.etc) should be limited to matches against Big 3 plus New Zealand. For the remaining tours, they can have a rotational policy for the top players and younger players can fill some of the slots.
