2141  Other / Meta / Re: What if someone want to kill his own account on this forum on: November 08, 2011, 09:43:34 PM
Yup. Go ahead and edit or delete any information you don't want to remain on the forum, then PM theymos when you are ready to have your account deleted.
2142  Other / Meta / Re: No more signature images on: November 08, 2011, 09:34:53 PM
Yes, hosting the images is not worth the trouble. Definitely don't do that.
But there are many ways you can prevent the linking of dynamic images, and thus prevent cookie stuffing.
That is impossible. The only way you can prevent people from linking dynamic images without local hosting is by whitelisting image upload sites where you trust that it is impossible to upload dynamic images.
In my mind, a forum is more useful when people can read through a guide with pictures without having to click on each image to display it individually.  But I guess not everyone can look past the fractions-of-a-second lost when scrolling past an off-topic picture.  Roll Eyes

Agreed.  The cookie stuffing exploit is real enough, though. It would be easy enough to add some Javascript to detect whether or not the resource loaded in the img src url is actually an image, and if not, then all users who have Javascript enabled would get a huge warning (and mods could easily see them and delete).

eg:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3499941/javascript-check-if-img-src-is-valid
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3744266/how-can-i-test-if-a-url-is-a-valid-image-in-javascript

All that does is warn the user after the fact. By then, it's too late.
2143  Other / Meta / Re: No more signature images on: November 08, 2011, 01:53:56 AM
I believe a more false statement cannot be made.  I guarantee as soon as people know the image size rules, you will never see more people ratting on other Bitcoin Forum users than ever.  If no one is ratting, they truly do not mind the image size.   I assure you though, someone will always notice.  Been on forums before that had self regulation of this specific kind that worked.

I know that this is not true, since the policy has always been that the entire signature area can't be much larger than 468px x 60px. Yet almost every time I view a topic I see someone with larger signature images. Usually I don't feel like dealing with it, but I've probably removed fifty or more signatures that were too large.
Oh really?

.signature
{
max-width: 468px;
max-height: 60px;
}

Problem solved.

Aldun, Paldun and Amanda - THE SAME PERSON with THE SAME EMAIL IN PAYPAL.
Thanks, I'll have an administrator review this.
Match verified. The above information provided WILL NOT be removed. In fact, just to be safe, I'll quote it:
Allright, obvious SCAM:

Matador_109@hotmail.com

Qwoiswow@hotmail.com

ARE EMAILS OF SCAMMER

-------------------
You can track him all over the net.
The name of PayPal owner is Thom van de Moosdijk

Never deal with this one!
PayPal transactions are disputed (except the first one which was sent as a gift)
Aldun reported that post, and said the following:
Quote from: Aldun
akropolis disputed the payment after I send him the BTC and he is now revealing my personal info all over the internet. It would be great if you could censor that.. Thanks! (And this is the last time I ever use Paypal for Bitcoins -.-)

"When will you expand to other countries?
To operate within the law, we need a legal company established, an office location, and a bank account in every country that we operate. This will take time and money to expand around the globe and comply with all laws and regulations."

I'd say that's a pretty big barrier to entry.
Huh? That's practically the bare minimum any business would need, regardless of the industry. Sure, it's not something that your average middle-class person could do on their own, but in the business world, that's cheap - almost pocket change.

If you're inferring that a competitor needs to operate in several countries in order to compete with Bit-Pay once they do, that's wrong. That business is one such that each local subsidiary would be pretty much independent. The only things gained in the industry that Bit-Pay is in by serving additional countries is that you don't need to re-write your site's code, and the marketing efforts aren't wasted toward people who live in countries that you don't serve. A good part of the code problem would go away if someone released open-source code that does what they do, and the marketing problem doesn't matter all that much if you're targeting your ads properly.
2148  Other / Meta / Re: Topic title change on: November 05, 2011, 01:53:57 AM
(forgot to add this to my last post)
As for him being disrespectful and making jokes, as long as it doesn't effect his moderating, he is entitled to express his personal opinions on this forum. You'll notice that none of your posts, nor the original thread, were ever deleted.
No moderator should ever change a title to place any blame on a user. Since by definition these threads are opinion-based, placing "thinks" or "says" next a a user's name is stating that the argument is less strong than its reverse. MoonShadow would not have changed a thread to "MoonShadow says piracy is good", so it does not make sense to change Serge's thread in that manner.

Rather, these threads should be named "Piracy is bad", "piracy is good", "piracy is not copying", etc.
I agree completely with you on that. Unless a thread is about someone, they shouldn't be mentioned in the topic's subject line. But again, he tried soliciting new names for the thread, and none were given. You can't blame him for that.
2149  Other / Meta / Re: Topic title change on: November 05, 2011, 01:44:58 AM
MoonShadow failed as a fair Mod after he decided to change another thread topic with statement make sound like coming from me that I haven't said, then failed to recognize what he did was wrong while acting disrespectfully and making jokes about it.
No, the failure wasn't his - it was ours (the other mods). We should have been online to help him out by providing an unbiased view to the topic, as he alludes to here:
I hotlinked this tread into the staff/mod section hours ago, and no one has come to your defense.  I'm not entirely sure why you believe that you have a grievence, nor do I believe that the title that I chose misrepresents this thread.  This has been going on all day now, and you still have not offered an alternative title, nor apparently were willing (or able, perhaps) to get another mod to change/delete anything.
The fact that he asked for this help, and none was quickly provided, shows that he did exactly what a fair mod should do.

Sorry about that.
2150  Other / Meta / Re: Topic title change on: November 05, 2011, 12:33:37 AM
It wasn't very clean, but I think I did a decent job splitting that thread.
2151  Other / Meta / Re: Topic title change on: November 05, 2011, 12:14:49 AM
Uhh... MoonShadow? If the OP matches the title, but the discussion doesn't, you split the discussion. Yes, even if that only leaves the original thread with one post. If you can't figure out a good title for the split, just leave the default. In my opinion, the only time you should should be changing a title, other than the typical administrative reasons, is if the title doesn't even match the OP.

Smart business strategy. By allowing us to take a portion of your profits from your overflow, you keep your customers happy and hooked to you, allowing you to grow your own investment.

Out of curiosity, about how many BTC/day is your demand exceeding your capacity right now?
2153  Other / Off-topic / Re: I.Goldstein's charity ponzi on: November 04, 2011, 04:43:26 AM
Can we get you banned for racism now?
Why are you asking me? I'm not a mod.

Maged: Can I be banned for replying to a blackmail claim with the fact that I'm white?

No, racism isn't against forum policy. Of course, the caveat about that is that significant trolling is bannable, and racism is likely to have a large overlap with trolling.

I'm not sorry, he even insulted me  Roll Eyes

Protip: if instead of finding ways to change my nick to insult me you applied that energy in looking for more info about your questions, you would have already found all the answers  Roll Eyes But omg, that would be a clever thing to do...
Hey, what did I say about insulting newbies? I'd advise you to just let this one go.
2155  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to get out of here on: November 03, 2011, 04:47:43 AM
Ok, that's enough of this.
2156  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: never mind its obvisouly impossible to buy legit paypal with btc on: November 02, 2011, 11:36:25 PM
sorry sceen shots mean nothing these days... you can get one made for $2 from people or make them yourself .... & if you don't any thing hide why black it out?

The stories match, that's all that matters.
2157  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: never mind its obvisouly impossible to buy legit paypal with btc on: November 02, 2011, 04:31:56 PM
There was no "I felt like you were accusing me of being a scammer"... you did call me a scammer.  Its in the text of the email.
Settle down. It looks like the stories match up, now. It's likely that one of you made a typo in the email address. That's an honest mistake. It'd be great if you guys just put this whole thing behind you.
2158  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: never mind its obvisouly impossible to buy legit paypal with btc on: November 02, 2011, 04:27:36 PM
I apologize for not responding sooner.

Here's a screen cap of my paypal.  I've redacted my other transactions as well as the email.  I'm willing to give a forum mod the full emails/transaction ids.
That'd be great. I'm now interested in how the transaction was canceled. Does PayPal give any details about that?

Edit: Ah, I just saw your edit. Sounds like cablepair just never registered the email address.
2159  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Requiring Bit Coin Help urgently! on: November 02, 2011, 04:24:40 PM
Sometimes I love how Bitcoin community cuts its own neck.

People say "we need more transaction volume", and "we need more non speculative demand for BTC".

Then a newbie tries to use Bitcoin and gets told to Fuck Off.  I mean can you imagine if you had a question about your credit card and VISA told you to fuck off.

Meh.  Yeah the questions lacked details and made it tough to help but it is the newbie section.  I know it is a crazy idea but how about we encourage adoption?
No.

A newbie come pretending answers and help without even thinking about doing the homework and read some faq and guides where he would find a better answer than what we can give here on forum.

Adoption? It require people that want to adopt it, not people spamming the forum just cause they have a POST button
Hey, guess what the whole point of this forum is? It's supposed to be a safe place for newbies to do their initial research, and more specifically, learn how to do that research. The proper response to questions here is to politely answer the question and instruct the user where to look for answers in the future. Had I seen kokjo's post before it was replied to, it would have been deleted. Unfortunately, I'm forced to do that more times than you guys might realize.

To those of you who were impolite in this thread: stay away from the newbie forum if you can't learn to hold your tongue in front of the new guys.
2160  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: never mind its obvisouly impossible to buy legit paypal with btc on: November 02, 2011, 04:08:13 PM
Again, I'd like to hear that from him. This needs to get cleared up. If he doesn't answer my question, your story will be assumed to be the true one, so don't worry.
