3881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: February 05, 2018, 05:27:59 PM
Quick question here has anyone used Dataland branded GPU's.

I have the chance to get some 580's but being new to GPU's and haven't found much in the way of reviews.

Thanks

Shipping from Sask, within 12 hours of payment (escrow accepted)
I would be asking about 500$ CDN each tho, maybe a bit less
got an MSI Gaming X 580 (8gb) too if you want it, would ask about 400CDN tho as shes pretty new and im in no hurry to sell

Good luck on your hunt! Smiley

Thanks. PM sent
3883  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: February 03, 2018, 01:05:19 AM
Don't the Avalons need one AUC per miner?
If so how is shipping a few of them out with a controller make ANY sense?

Then again, I wish they would just get rid of the whole AUC stupidity.

You need 1 AUC for 5 Avalons. That way with the 1 controller you can set up to 20 machines.

Yeah more parts usually means more thins to go wrong, but I imagine if they designed an internal controller the price would go up; based on a redesign and extra manufacturing costs.

Hey Just thought I'd put this to the community first.

I have a line on a few RX580's already but thought maybe there is a better deal to be had in the forum.

Like the title says, I'm looking for 6 cards, preferably 8GB. If you have these available let me know what you are asking.

Not going to pay anything crazy like current ebay, newegg or amazon pricing.

Thanks in advance.
3886  Other / Meta / Re: Infographic - Activity, Merit & New Rank Requirements on: February 02, 2018, 07:14:01 AM
Thank you for this information but I need more clarity on how to get merit.
Is it a requirement to post in a particular section for one to earn merit?
With this update, does it mean I won't be promoted to a new rank without meeting the minimum merit requirement?

You can post anywhere.

Getting Merit is very subjective. I've seen some random useless posts get 10; I've seen some great ones get 1.

It really just depends on who reads your post and whether it struck the right cord for them.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to guarantee you will get some.

If you feel you have posts that are deserving of Merit here is a thread that reviews it periodically and they may give you some but no guarantee.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2819141.0

My advice is don't worry about it to much, and just try to post something relevant or startup a worthy discussion thread.

That does seem weird, I still can't figure out why you powered them down for the night. Maybe you just din't have them set where you wanted them.

So when running by itself on the PDU it powers up just fine. That tells me it's not an S9 issue. You say when both are connected they won't power on.

I'm not familiar with the Bitmain PSU's but my PSU's have their own power on switch. If you have these are you able to power on the PDU then power on the PSU's one at a time?

Your PDU should have plenty of room for what you are doing, and the fact that you see the PSU power on but not the S9 is peculiar. Have you made sure that in all the switching the PCI-e connectors are all secure and that your Ethernet is also secure?

As for the 1600W PSU you tried, I don't know the model but is that the output on 110V. Just covering my bases as I'm unfamiliar with it.
3888  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Massive drop in global hashrate on: February 02, 2018, 02:40:32 AM
I like all the theories and ideas, I'd have to say that maybe it has to do with some of the gear coming off the test benches and being shipped out. Whether it be Bitmain or Canaan; I don't really follow any of the other suppliers.

It might have just been some movement of gear through the Data center, or like some said mining some random fork for a while. It didn't look like it went to BCH at least not all of it, as I had them on the same graph.

Either way looks like it was fairly shortlived as it has swung back up to nearly where it was. We are also back on track for another Diff increase.

Sorry for the glimmer of hope  Wink

3889  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Massive drop in global hashrate on: February 01, 2018, 10:35:24 AM
Older gear  was turned off?

still looks high on info below

https://btc.com/stats/diff

That's what I figured at first to, but then thought that's highly coordinated unless it was a massive "museum mine" I've been looking at it throughout the night and it does seem to be recovering. It just seemed like a big swing to me for such a short time.

Sorry I can't check your link; work started blocking all pool related sites last week, quoting it as a not private connection.

EDIT: Yeah I saw that we are back on track for an increase, hoping it stays marginal.
3890  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: February 01, 2018, 10:22:16 AM
Here is an update for packaging for the 821; and presumably the entire 8 series.

Miners will now ship with a 5 pin cable; No AUC included.

The controllers will ship out with 4 AUC's.

This is their plan to deal with the supply issues of AUC's; so it will make sense for people to order 1 of the Canaan controllers. This probably also explains the price increase there was on controllers.
3891  Economy / Services / Re: Paypal 21 day hold -NEW RELEASE METHOD- 100% working ! on: February 01, 2018, 08:33:59 AM
This to me is one of the dumbest service offerings I have seen. I use paypal infrequently when I sell something on ebay.

When I started selling items between 100-600$ the hold was there for my new account, and as soon as my tracking information showed it delivered, funds were released within 3 days. I did have to call so that they would release the funds.

After 2 deals my hold was gone, and funds were instantly available for withdrawal.

They did put the hold back on when I sold something for 3000$, but again once delivered, they removed the hold within 3 days, again I called but they told me they take it off 3 days after delivery anyways.

So the only reason anyone would need your service is if they are going to scam someone and want to try and disappear with the money.

I don't know what his magic trick is supposed to be to get your funds released early but I doubt it's worth the 12.50$.

3892  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Massive drop in global hashrate on: February 01, 2018, 04:44:05 AM
I was doing my daily rounds through some of the pages and noticed on my pool info that the global hashrate had dropped.
Then I looked into it and it was significant. It looks like 25% of the network hashrate just up and disappeared.

https://blockchain.info/charts/hash-rate

Not sure where it went, I'm guessing some of it has to do with the price drop and higher difficulty that some of the equipment that became profitable again might have come offline.
Then I thought that's an odd level of everyone being on the same page. It also seems really high for it to just be the next batch of Miners getting ready to be shipped out.

Not that I'm complaining it is nice to see a difficulty adjustment in the red as opposed to +20. At least for now.

3893  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: January 31, 2018, 02:03:13 PM
I see that you are using nice hash. Is there a chance that all the resets are from it switching pools or wherever it is being paid to point?

Have you tried running it to your second pool "slush" for a while to see if it happens with steady work available.

I've never used nicehash so I don't know for sure how that works out.

Also what does it say on the overview tab for uptime?
3894  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BLOKFORGE- Official Canaan Distributor on: January 31, 2018, 06:26:54 AM
I emailed Canaan to find out about the AUC's.

Essentially they've changed the way they are packaging the equipment. The 821's will come with a 5 pin cable.
The controllers will ship out with 4 AUC's.

Make sense for them seeing as they've designed the miners to only need 4 AUC for every 20 Avalons.

Edit- corrected # of AUC required, and number of AUC's included with a controller
3895  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 4GB Cards Going Absolete for Eth mining? on: January 31, 2018, 03:07:29 AM
The MODS will move this for you, but you are in the wrong section of the forum. Scroll down on the main page and look for "alt coin"

More importantly for ETH mining is that there is a plan in place to become a proof of stake system; as opposed to the current  proof of work system. I have no hard facts about it, but got the impression from people this might happen before the 4GB cards become obsolete for ETH.

I'm new to the GPU stuff but the advice I was given was " if the cost isn't to much of a difference the 8GB will have better resale over the 4GB version".
3896  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: January 30, 2018, 03:56:53 AM
That is strange. I Just want to make sure that you are refreshing the miner status page? If you had it open in its own tab it will not refresh on its own.

That would be the simple solve and possible if it always says 6 minutes. What do you see in your API  log in the "elapsed" field, I think that is the timer in seconds.

Can you post a photo of your status and API log

Now these are just throw in ideas. What pool are you mining? What does the pool show for a hashrate? Have you tried swapping AUC3 converters if you ha e a spare?
If we don't stumble on it it might be a firmware issue
3897  Other / Meta / Re: Infographic - Activity, Merit & New Rank Requirements on: January 28, 2018, 10:18:52 PM
Nice maybe this or one of the others you've mentioned could get stickied; although I'm sure it won't stop people who want to post first, and do no research ever.

Plain/simple is always good; good old KISS method.
3898  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: January 28, 2018, 09:56:41 PM
Guys I also have a 741 that keeps heating up every 2 to 3 minutes. It will hit around 100 C and then the fan will kick in to 100% to cool it off and then it will go right back down but will start working its way up. I contacted Canaan about it but was extremely let down with their service department.  At first they told me not to worry about it but I told them this would wear the fan out quicker than it normally would, then they told me they would send me a hash board. So I've received a hash board from them but I'm honestly not sure which one I need to replace. If I give you guys the log, will you be able to point me towards which one might need replaced? I'm not very well versed in the 741's

First thing is the fan pulling air through the unit?

I mean to say does the air come in the back where the cables connect and leave the side the fan is mounted?

have you played around at all with your fan's min and max settings via the controller interface?

The fan is pulling cool air through it, it is located outside in my shop and is pulling 5 C air through it. Once the fan kicks on it really cools it down but it seems like it climbs back up too quickly and the hash rate is only at 6.6 TH/s where it used to be at 7.3 Th/s a few weeks ago. I just remoted in and noticed that it is also resetting itself..Idk what is going on with the thing.

I haven't played around with the fan settings much, what should I set them to? I just wish Canaan's support for this thing was better. I told them about this problem as soon as I received the miner. I hate to say it but Bitmains support is better to me at this point.

I'm not near my miner at the moment. I'm guessing you aren't either if you had to remote into it.

I didn't play with my fan settings at all, I do know when it gets cooler in my shop that the fan will cycle sometimes like you describe. If you are worried you could change the min fan to something like 40 - 50%, in the cooler air that should be more than enough to try and stabilize it.

How long has you Avalon been running I know my hashrate fluctuates but after a few days from any reset or cycling power to the controller it stabilizes to around 7.6-7.9 TH/S per miner.

Have you made any changes to your setup since you were getting the 7.3? If you are looking at the average the resetting could be bringing that down? Just in case also what PSU are you using? anything else near the miner that could be drawing power on the same circuit? Do you have a stable internet connection?
