Yeah with Minerwarez strictly being a distributor, if it isn't a damaged package or visibly damaged miner there's not much they can do. Even in those cases it would mostly be about recovering shipping fees, all Miner related issues would still be through Canaan, who if I remember correct handled Phillipma1957's warranty issue quite well. They will deal with everyone a little differently, on a case by case basis though I'm sure.

For my damaged fan, I noted it right out of the box with Photos, I emailed them and Minerwarez, with the photos, I then test ran it to make sure it was operational which it is still, the damage appeared to be purely cosmetic

From the emails provided and information given, after about 1/12 weeks they had created a support ticket, and invoice. They than sent me a fan, it hasn't arrived yet, but is en route. The invoice came out as cost neutral, so I did not have to pay anything, and they are essentially taken a preventative measure by providing me with a fan, should mine develop an problem operationally.

In my case it was just a fan, not a hash board or anything so I can't say how they will handle it, but in the future I would try and create a support ticket as soon as possible, and follow their directions for troubleshooting; not to discount any advice you were given here.

This way you might be able to get things moving as fast as possible for yourself, and could save you some back and forth, in regards to communicating to them everything you have already tried.

I'm wondering if you have a way to check and see if all of your cables from the PSU's are in good shape? Including their connections.

Also if one of the PSU cables was bad, could that have caused board damage? It is weird that it happened to both of the miners. I have never used that PSU so I don't know what lights you should be seeing, maybe check with the manufacturer.

Did you create a support ticket? When my 1st batch order came in there was some cosmetic fan damage and within 2 weeks they had sorted it out, I know it took a little longer because it fell during Golden Week. Was that photo an image of it running at -1? it looked as if your Hashrate has come up  a little, still not where it should be.

A quiet profitable miner, isn't really available. There are options, but your best bet is to sound proof, or reduce.

What sort of setup do you have? Is it a spare room? Basement or garage? One option is to look into studio style noise reduction; the cheap option is egg cartons lol. The pricier option is to buy the panels off amazon or ebay.You can also build insulated wind tunnels to cut it down a little. I lived with many musicians in my early years, and more than once a home recording studio was thrown together.

Definitely get photos, One cautionary tale in regards to these pop up sales of a large number of miners.

We got ripped off about a month ago. The scam wasn't to get a full BTC amount from us; atleast not in the end, they settled for the prepaid shipping which we sent along. In total they may have made a couple hundred USD.

Escrow saved us the total amount, but we should have dug deeper and gotten the answer to the questions already asked.

I'm not near my miners at the moment but I believe my readout under PG is 15 when they are running normal, I'm guessing the code is only relevant after a failure?

This seems as good a place as any; I'm wondering if the community can fill in the blanks on some general knowledge/maintenance questions, here are mine?

What sort of cleaning schedule do you perform on these units and how?

Do the 741's have an overtemp protection/shutdown feature?

I know you have to keep the inlet Temp below 40C ( I still don't want to push that), but what is the max exhaust temp I want to see in the readout? Is there a chip temp readout?

Finally for now anyways, what does the DH value actually mean under the Avalon devices status.

I saw you mentioned Avalons, if you are serviced by Minerwarez they now accept BTC as advertised on their website. If you do not live in the US though, you are responsible for scheduling all shipping details.

The set up you are going for looks like you have been taking the advice given to heart.

The opening you are going to use for cooling, will provide enough restriction free intake air to match the discharge air from your original idea and still has a large enough area to match Phillipma1957's idea for an increased exhaust duct of 16".

On paper you don't really need to upsize, to that large of a pipe or fan for exhaust. Your exhaust fan and the Miner fans will work together to move the air to your "tank" and outside, but with the 1200 CFM fan you are cutting it close as it is nice to know that it can handle the total required air exchange for the miners and the room; but without knowing the total length of run or how many 90's the piping will make or your future plans for expansion, it's not a bad idea to oversize all of your piping and the Exhaust fan for your ventilation needs. Considering you are already biting the bullet on setup costs, one should ask "why not spend a little extra to make sure you have a nice reliable system in place with room for growth?"

Definitely a good idea to go to the recommended sizes right off the miners as, these things have been learned through experience. Also the piping restrictions on airflow can cause issues; so bigger is better to some extent.
Just a note when you say insulated duct, you are referring to something rigid? as the exhaust fan's suction could cause collapse in anything that isn't rigid.

 I'm a little chapped that after 2 orders that they managed I know have to sort out my own shipping and customs.
I am really hoping for a Canadian distributor, I won't be ordering  through minerwarez again so I hope it isn't to long.
If they had atleast posted it on the site beforehand that wouldn't have been so bad but to find out a minute before you purchase that they are treating international different and that shipping has to be handled by the purchaser, it sucks. I bought anyway but have no idea what to expect as far as my additional costs now.

I can't say much for sound as the Miners drown it out, but it has been reliable and handles my 2 741's at stock, with no problems. Granted it has only been a week, but it seems to get the job done. They are also super helpful in getting set up and making sure you are using the right equipment.

For me it's just preference and cost that made me decide to double up on 220V PSU's. I have also heard it is more efficient to operate that way. Also you have to look at what you have available; for me it is easy to run another 30 amp circuit in my garage or basement and not worry about it, for others not so much. You have a few weeks to figure it all out just take your time do the research, and pick what's best for you.

you only need the rasp Pi, an SD card I think 4GB is the minimum the site suggests, and the PSU as well as the AValon Miner.

If you go to Ebay, they have some controllers lised; I usually buy my PSU's from Amitylabs ( you'll have to look them up) not sure what shipping and delivery would be to the EU, and you can find Rasp Pi's pretty easy online.

You might want to check some local buy sell sites in your country to see if anyone is selling PSU's or controllers as I hear the shipping and import fees can be crazy coming from North America.

You as the buyer/seller have to do what you are comfortable with. I have sold equipment to people all across Canada that I have not met in person, at the moment I do not use escrow for high value shipments, because last time I lost a few hundred dollars during the price dip, because it turned out to be a scam... That being said I did not lose everything because we used an excellent Escrow Agent. If when making these deals I don't need to convert everything back top cash ASAP or it's for a smaller dollar amount; I like the idea of Escrow and the trust and relationships it can build.

I usually use Paypal and split the fees associated with being able to offer Buyer and Seller protection with whoever is purchasing from me.

In the end decide what kind of risk you are willing to take, and don't let the buyer/seller take you into uncomfortable/uncharted territory.

At those deep disounts you could afford to sell on ebay, pay all the fees and still make more... Thanks for really trying to "help" our community

I think in reading through this I have figured out why when I changed my laptops static Ip to match the Rasp Pi I failed. I didn't realize I was supposed to run the Ethernet cable from my laptop to the rasp pi. I just left them connected to my home network. Live and learn. Maybe I will try again with my next controller... but I'll probably take the easy way out.

You can honestly go to any store, like a walmart or homedepot, and find a window fan they mount directly inside the sliding window, they work just fine for bringing air in or exhausting air out. Does your garage have an attic space, if so you can set up a fan in the access there as well, one blowing in one exhausting out. When I had 3 s5's  and an s4+ running in my garage simply having my fan blowing into the space and leaving my attic access open kept the ambient temperature low enough, but on 35C days I either ran both fans or just rested 1 or 2 of the miners. I did also place a filter on my window screen to help keep dust down.

I was checking through your photos, and was wondering, are your exhaust fans constantly running, or do you have them set on a temperature switch for on/off operation. I'm looking into different designs for next spring and didn't want to forget to ask?

At the moment I am looking into the best way to rig my avalon exhaust to my furnace return air intake in the basement. My plan is to widen my return air intake in the basement and mount my miners within a few feet, and restrict the main air intakes on my main level by half or so. I might just have to run a few feet of ducting wide enough to accommodate the airflow to within a foot of the miner exhaust. I figure by running my furnace fan constantly instead of on/off with the thermostat, I can keep a steadier heat in the house and that will be the most efficient use of the miner heat. The 4 miner set up will equal about 20% of my furnace at full capacity, so with steady fan circulation this will greatly offset my power consumption costs, as I'm going to need it anyways.

Winter is coming.

This is usually mentioned in every pools set up steps. The miner doesn't really have anything to do with that. Best to just read and re-read all steps for anything you are setting up, or connecting to.

I think in regards to passwords they say it can be anything just not blank. This is also usually where you can put in your manual difficulty setting if you chose to; again it is usually explained by the particular pool you are using.

I do also have a question. I was wondering what difficulty setting, if you enter your own manually with your pool do you use? I currently have 2 741's on the same controller, and was thinking of setting my difficulty manually to see if I can't reduce my number of reject shares. I was thinking of setting it around 15500, as I have been seeing a consistent rate of 16th/s with the lowest being 15.7. Any thoughts? Is this correct as the pool sees them as 1 unit working together through the controller?
