621  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A gambler's family action. on: November 28, 2023, 01:14:18 PM
During the weekend I was listening to an evening programme from one our the local radio stations they were discussing about gambling, the effects and how to manage it if you might be struggling with  addiction. And they had listeners calling in to share personal experiences or of a loved one that gambles and amidst many callers there was this very caller story that caught my interest and curiosity.

She told about how the family members of a particular young man that is like a plunger when it comes to gambling, his compulsive gambling is to the length of him selling his personal properties and gadgets to make sure he gambles. So what he family did was to print a photograph of him and giving it to all the gambling shops within their neighborhood and around the locality, threatening that any of the gambling shops they have pasted the photo of their brother should they find their brother allowed to gamble in the shops they will sue the gamble shop owner to court as one that is abetting their brother's compulsive gambling lifestyle.

Now, while I was quietly listening to the story in my head I began to ask myself several possible  questions and one of such questions was; is it not possible that this young man can take a cab away from their location and move to a far area to carry out his gambling since his a compulsive gambler.

Just two questions here:
1. Dis the family of this young man went too extreme in trying to help stop their brother from gambling addiction or not?

2. Assuming you are this young man and you had to run to a distant location to carry out your gambling as you are allowed to gambling within your neighborhood and luckily you won huge sum of million dollars. Would you share that money with your loved ones who were barring you from gambling or you will just stay off from them and live new found wealthy live alone?

Share your thoughts!

1. Maybe many people here will disagree with me but I think that the family in the story is a very caring family that is trying its best to help out a loved one. This is very beautiful because the alternative would be the family not caring or only doing the bare minimum to help him fight his addiction. But having said that, the family does not know how to treat gambling addiction. They aren't therapists. I doubt what they did will have had any kind of impact on treating his addiction. Worst case, they just make things worse with their actions.

So yes, it was a bit extreme.

2. I would not share my money with anyone without good reason. Being family is not a reason to give away your money.
622  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this a good advice? on: November 27, 2023, 06:44:57 PM
I keep seeing gamblers advising themselves that you are one step closer to winning the jackpot when you quit too early,  it's sad that they strongly believe this.

Is this true?

This advice is actually making gamblers believe that they can win when they spend a lot of more time in the casino, they strongly believe that not stopping or taking break will bring them closer to their jackpot.

One of em told me that this is why I don't win, that I only gamble when I feel like, he said constantly gambling is a must if you want to win, but I disagree, because I have seen too many people not knowing when to quit until it was too late.

To me, gambling is a theater, a form of entertainment that I pay for, not a way to get rich quick, for them it's a must to win by force, one question seem to change his mood though.

I asked him why he isn't rich yet if he is actively gambling everytime since all this while, this changed his mood and I took a turn.

Well, technically.... If they keep going, they do increase their chances of winning the jackpot. But that is from a mathematical perspective.

But one has to ask themselves; is it worth increasing your chances with such a manual attempt? And if you know the odds of winning the jackpot, you will understand why it does not make a noticeable difference. The odds of winning are too low, so even if you keep adding on, all you do is improve your miniscule odds by a miniscule amount.

Its like buying more tickets for a lottery. Buying more tickets has never proven to be a way to win the jackpot either. The winnings odds are too small for more tickets to make a difference.
623  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it possible to mine bitcoin with my laptop? on: November 27, 2023, 01:59:13 PM
My advice for just starting out is to look into building a small 6 card mining rig using 1660 Super cards. They are really
inexpensive to buy, under $100,  and with the right OC (OverClock) they draw about 60-75 Watts each and can make about $0.10 a day which is not much, BUT you will learn how to set up a rig, mange said rig and introduce yourself to crypto mining. You can use NiceHash for a wallet and be up and running in minutes. That Easy!!!

"1660 super goes for $250-300 each" WRONG!!!!

"Actually, I think the age of GPU mining is over." again, WRONG!!!!

"NVIDIA is rumored to be throttling the hash rate of their cards." and you guessed it, WRONG!!!!

Do NOT listen to anyone that shits on good ideas. They are usually' as proven in this case, 80-99% WRONG!!!!

Follow what your gut tells you even if its not the right choice at first. You`ll get there my dude!

What kind of professional level trolling is this? NotATether is an expert in mining matters. It is usually a good idea to listen to him regarding technical mining matters. Do you have any links you can offer that prove he is wrong? I just checked the prices for 1660 Super cards and they are just as he said, $250-300 USD. Sure perhaps you can get it somewhat cheaper on ebay for a used model. But it won't be that much cheaper.

624  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Wanted: Software Marketing Manager on: November 27, 2023, 01:47:45 PM
So you want somebody to sell your product?

The same product which you yourself call risky due to it being in a grey area of the law (or so you claim) and I doubt you have consulted a lawyer about offering your product to customers, going by your relaxed business conduct. And you won't even disclose what your product actually is?

Sorry but thats too many red flags. I doubt anyone will take on such a shady offer because they themselves will be made legally liable for selling it.  Roll Eyes

Good luck.
625  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Two Carreer skill benefit of gambling on: November 27, 2023, 12:40:53 PM
There exist over one million and one reason why people hate gambling, but few benefits of gambling can make a player to outsmart his colleagues in the office. Or even in an interview. I was able to check how gambling benefits relate to what HR officers look out for in a candidate before hiring them. There are 2 main benefit of gambling that improves the major skills people look out for in an employee in every offices.

1. Critical thinking: there have never been any job opening that doesn't require candidates to have this skill, because every company needs it to grow. And under critical thinking include skills like problem solving, idealist etc.

2. Socialization: Mainly the corporate world will call it interpersonal relationship. It's a very crucial skill anywhere we find ourselves in the world. And gamblers who participate in board games, easily develop the skill. When in the office, they'll always socialize and make friends with co-workers.

Personally, I've experienced these two, in my daily conversation with people. And realized that my responses are now more effective than it used to be in the past, before I began gambling. I'd always think fast and respond accurately what the next person wants to hear. And most times it makes them laugh.  Grin

There are other benefits of gambling, and how it has helped your gambling life. It'll be great if you shared some of it with us. Cheers.

You know, I have never thought about that before. Does gambling improve your critical thinking and socialization? A very thought-provoking question, indeed!

I am sure that many gamblers have a lot of experience with other skill aspects as well. As to the other skills that a I could have learned by simply gambling with a passion: How about self-control, discipline, concentration, planning, risk-management and budgeting skills?

Although I would avoid telling people where I learned such skills, since gambling will probably be seen in a negative light to whoever you are trying to convince of your character and skill-set.

The unaddressed cases have been brought to your attention a multitude of times and they should have been resolved by now. Why did it take BC.Game so long to address the issues publically? (If there actually is any such plan to address the issues and resolve them). Surely you must have noticed how badly this forum has been for your reputation? And reputation is money.

Furthermore I think you should address the reasons why your casino has such an unproportional amount of scam accusations? Is there a lack of teamwork or a failure in the customer support department?
627  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why the rich win gambling more than the poor. on: November 26, 2023, 01:25:40 AM
I have observed that the rich, I mean those who are financially comfortable, win more in gambling than the poor. By poor, I mean those who do not have enough to meet all their needs. I don't know the reason for this. Could it be that the rich understand financial management more? Or could it be that the rich are less desperate to win which make them make better gambling decision? I really want to know the reason for this pattern I have observed.

It is mathematically impossible for them to win more at the same odds as everyone else.

But perhaps you mean to say that rich gamblers win more? Because I would of course totally agree with you if thats the case. But then again they also lose more than the average joe gambler. So its better to look at things from the perspective of a win/loss ratio. And I think you will find that the ratio does not change and remains around more  or less the same for both rich and poor gamblers.

The rich guy wins and loses just as often as the average Joe. He just plays with higher numbers.

The president has long railed against cryptocurrencies, insisting that Bitcoin is not money, but rather a “highly speculative asset” that is popular among criminals for money laundering.

That sounds like USD to me.

Oh no, USD is waaay more popular among criminals. Its a currency for the corrupt and secretive and it is way easier to launder with.
629  Economy / Gambling / Re: FORTUNEJACK.COM |Deposit 777 play with 1777 mBTC |Live Casino, Slots, Betting on: November 24, 2023, 09:23:45 PM
Why are we limited to one promo code per day? It would be more convenient if we could use 2-3 codes daily, similar to what other casinos offer.

I got promocodes from x.com at the same time here in BitcoinTalk.

I think that one bonus is quite generous and I am quite content with that.

The sites that offer multiple bonuses are easier to abuse by people with multiple accounts. I think casinos need to be just as careful of getting ripped off by the public just as much as the public needs to be careful of which casino they choose to put their faith into. A lot of people want to find a infinite money glitch. :/

That being said, the bonuses offered by Fortunejack is quite competitive, if you compare it to other casinos. Even if it is only once a day.
630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 9 Years Before He finally claim his lotto rewards on: November 24, 2023, 03:18:57 PM
He deserves the winnings. He took a long battle and finally won it and it was truly worth the wait.
Although it would have been more beneficial if he would have got the winnings 9 years earlier itself but yet its still a lot of money.
The sad thing is that the amount would not be inflation adjusted but I think that's how it is.
Good thing is that the judge ruled the case in his favor and that's what matters.

I completely agree.

But it does not matter if its 9 years earlier or 9 years later. He should get the money, and in case of getting it later he is getting 6% interest per annum, but he should also have gotten money for even having to endure almost an entire decade of having to battle needlessly. I am sure that he wasted a lot of money on lawyers and a lot of personal time that could have been spent, making money or doing other things.

Gambling businesses should be held to a higher standard and given much harsher punishments.
631  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Math and Gambling on: November 24, 2023, 03:01:24 PM
Gambling is known to be a game of pure luck but also probability, that's if you are good at math, this is what a fellow employee said to me, he then told me to look Chris Ferguson up, to my surprise this man won millions in gambling using math, I read this man is really good at math,

He created his own gambling strategy for poker completely on math and game theory instead of trying to focus monitoring the players, this man won five world series bracelets 🤦 and over 8 millions dollars in gambling tournaments.

There is also another man called James Simons, who is named the greatest gambler of all, he made more money using math than Chris Ferguson, James net worth is over 20 billions, I was shocked, because I use to think it's impossible to gamble using any skills, this is a skill on a another level, I am mad that I am just knowing this not too long ago.

School is not important as 96% of what you learn won't be used in the real world to make money, but this 4% left is making a lot of people rich, math and gambling seems to go with each other, what do you guys think? Am I wrong or right?

Anything is possible, but only if you have the knowledge. And math is the language of logic. If you learn to read and write it, then you can turn your dreams into reality. Winning 8 million dollars is nothing but a use-case example of exactly that. I sometimes wonder why people don't try to find out more about how the universe works. Mathematicians are basically "reality hackers" Roll Eyes

But we are talking about using math for cheating a casino out of their money. I do not think it is wise nor honorable to do that. And you might get into trouble with the law in some cases.

632  Economy / Gambling / Re: - UGA - a Gamblers Union on: November 24, 2023, 02:39:02 PM

I am planning to make a Website, Socials and a lot more, people who arent getting heard will get heard, the different stories will get heard and hopefully a lot of cases will be solved by presenting this to the brighter audience.

The only voice that matters is the voice with power. Casinos take legal representatives more serious than normal people. That being said, most people that are complaining of having been treated unfairly are sore losers who made big gambling losses. And you really do not want to help them troll the casino for the purpose of being petty.

Your project is an idea that was motivated by your own sense of right and wrong but I think it might be a bit misguided. If a player was treated unfairly then that player needs legal advice on how to resolve the issue. Every country has its own laws and every lawyer wants money. Unless the union has lawyers or money, I think the goal of your project might be a bit out of your scope. I mean even if you did manage to identify those players who have been treated unfairly from those who only have themselves to blame for their actions, you would still be facing the problem of your union being unable to do anything other than seek costly legal action in the end.

633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Got hacked, lost 11 BTC on: November 24, 2023, 12:14:12 PM
Yesterday I lost 11 BTC from my Bitcoin Core 25.0 wallet.  The wallet wasn't open at the time.  I don't know how it happened. Lots of emotions right now.

Wow that really sucks. These things can happen, nobody can see it coming. Even if people here say that they have special security to deal with avoiding situations like this, nobody is really safe.

This can happen to anyone at any time. There is no 100% way to avoid getting scammed, hacked or robbed. It is just part of the human condition.

If I were to guess, I would say you either gave away your seed phrase without knowing it and/or you had malicious software on your device. But you have not really given us much information, so there is nothing to go on.
634  Economy / Gambling / Re: Crypto Sportsbook to handle large bets? on: November 23, 2023, 10:35:04 PM
I have iver 45 million wagered with stake and 20 million with bc, im looking to switch to a new sportsbook is there any on here that can handle decent limits, i contacted rollbit and a few others and they claim the provider increases them as they wish and theyre legit $200 for NCAAF lol

Sorry but I am going to have to call BS on this. I do not think that any sportsbook could handle a $45 million dollar bet nor am I sure whether they would accept such a bet, due to the reason (I suspect) that they do not have enough money to pay the gambler off, should he win.

Casinos are all about people betting normal amounts many, many times. Because thats how they win with probability (since they have the house edge). But they themselves are not risk-takers. And a 45 Mill bet is too high a risk to take without insurance.

635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Exchanges being attacked in the verge of BTC ETF on: November 23, 2023, 02:37:16 PM
Yeah, things have been a bit funny... Poloniex "hack", Binance issue...

It is obvious manipulation to drag the price of certain cryptocurrencies down. And of course, once the price goes down again, all of a sudden we see the same whales gobbling up discounted Bitcoin.

I really do wonder sometimes about all the different ways that big players try to manipulate the smaller investors for the sake of more profit.

Everyone has their tricks... Roll Eyes
636  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this the End for BC.GAME? on: November 23, 2023, 02:07:26 PM
All I know of BC.Game is due to their reputation from scam accusations, I have decided not to try their platform out. Better safe than sorry. And we really cannot be too trusting, with all the scams going on in the world of gambling and crypto (especially crypto-gambling).

But I would also agree with the above poster. It seems like they are just readjusting as well as remodeling their promotions to fit their current goals.

Although I cannot call it a smart change, if it angers and disappoints so many in the community to the point that people are complaining loudly.
637  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 23, 2023, 08:33:20 AM
In the mean time...

https://www.reuters.com/technology/sam-altmans-ouster-openai-was-precipitated-by-letter-board-about-ai-breakthrough-2023-11-22/

"Things" are happening fast.
Bitcoin is currently not affected, but it would be later on, I think.
Maybe it's all a bunch of nothing, but maybe, not.

I think the biggest effect on Bitcoin will be the amount of scams that AI begins attempting to try and stack BTC for whatever reason. We’re all going to be targeted and the rate they’ll be able to communicate will be insane. Worse, there will be those who protect the behavior of the basis of free speech. It will be important for people to stand up to this behavior at some point, although I’m not sure how.

And those AI scams will have AI anti-scam making things hard for them. Although this might be a problem if we are no longer able to tell apart AI and human generated content on a deeper technical level. And the day that we are no longer able to tell apart AI from Non-AI might never come. I have yet to see undeniable proof that such a thing is even possible or impossible.

Funds are safu

safu= Safe!

the correct word.  Wink

SAFU ≠ safe

SAFU - Secure Asset Fund for Users (an "emergency" fund)

It's a mix of Bitcoin, Binance tokens, some USD Tether and some TrueUSD tokens

Current value is ~$1billion (60% of which is denominated in Bitcoin)

Supposedly created in 2018 though (from what I see) the bulk of the transfers seemed to have happened about a year ago.

639  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Has anyone been able to make steady income with gambling ? on: November 23, 2023, 04:10:20 AM
Has anyone been able to make steady income with gambling ? If yes, what had been your strategy ? Do you diversify to multiple games in order to ensure that end result is always profit ?

I personally feel that there are very less chances of making a steady income with gambling. In fact, if you win a big amount in gambling, from there on , you should play games with less on stake and keep the winnings invested in some good option like crypto. It is important to have self control to end profitably with gambling ventures online. Do you agree with this ?

The house always wins in the long run. Its a mathematical fact. Why in the world would you think that gambling over and over again will bring you a steady income? Gambling can win you millions in a single bet or finally make you lose all your money after 100 bets. And in between those 100 bets your money goes up and down until it turns into a zero. And eventually it will turn into a zero.

I am guessing that you won some money and now feel extremely lucky? Gambling on emotion can be very counterproductive.

640  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Who's next in line? on: November 23, 2023, 01:02:05 AM

The recent years have not been easy with crypto exchanges as SEC has been breathing down their necks and constantly taking legal actions against them, and many heavyweights have not been spared as they've either tested the blade or feeling the heat.

Below are the highlights of SEC's latest victory in the fight against crimes and fraudulent practices in the space.

  • FTX boss, SBF's trial finally came to an end few weeks ago and the crypto community are anxiously waiting to hear the final verdict come 28 March 2024.
  • Bittrex's winding down and $24 million dollars penalty settlement.
  • Binance fined of a whooping $4.3 billion dollars, the highest ever paid by an exchange and CZ pleading guilty to money laundering.

Which exchange or CEO do you think is going down next?

I think The CEO of Poloniex is sweating bullets right now. Maybe he does not actually have the funds to pay anyone back. As far as I know, withdrawals are still frozen and despite promises of a coming solution, if he has no money then he is just biding for time. He believes he can get the money back with profits that will not exist anymore because nobody is going to use Poloniex after this.
