Nuclear power is a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels... but reactors take a very long time to build. Given the pace of climate change, we probably don't have time for that, and need to switch our attention to renewables instead, as well as lifestyle changes. The ultimate dream I suppose is commercial fusion, but that is always a few decades away...
Reactors take a long time to build?

No, they do not.

“It’s true I’m not a big fan of sharks either. I don’t know, how many votes am I going to lose?”

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/aug/21/donald-trump-sharks-speech-stormy-daniels

Well, how many votes is Trump going to lose to Biden because of his dislike of sharks?

This is indeed a big problem. I think we should have our presidential and vice presidential debates under water, in a shark infested area. The sharks could be started off with just enough of a feeding to get them circling the area.

Now I'm fine with steel, welded cages for these guys and women who would like to rule us. But let's see how they actually swim under pressure.
703  Other / Politics & Society / Re: idiot police - jacob blake shooting on: August 30, 2020, 03:35:35 PM
It would be nice if Kenosha PD had body cams so we could review the footage ourselves, but apparently that was in the budget for 2021. Hopefully this nonsense about defunding the police dies down and these cities at least mandate body cams.

I'm certain that defunding will be done at the least to slash those budgets for body cams.
704  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] Is bitcointalk (still) very skeptical towards global warming science? on: August 30, 2020, 03:30:46 PM
....I would confidently say that if you picked a student at random from any of those classes and asked them to list 5 GHGs and "which GHG has a higher warming potential, CO2 or Methane", there's a < 10% chance they would be able to answer correctly. What hope does a random "CO2 induced climate change" believer have in answering a simple question like that?...

That's not even considering the relation between concentration of such a gas and logrythmic decrease in additional warming.

But the narrative must be pushed, the truth is quite irrelevant.

Surprisingly, I heard (but have not verified) the US Democratic Party now includes nuclear power in their platform.

705  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] Is bitcointalk (still) very skeptical towards global warming science? on: August 30, 2020, 02:29:53 PM
I don't really see a difference between these 2 options
  • I'm skeptical of some related claims.
  • I agree with most claims related.

If your poll is sorted in order of non-believer to believer, these options should probably be swapped. I would say the "agree with most" option indicates you flat out disagree with certain claims, whereas the "skeptical of some" option indicates you mostly believe in the problem but are suspicious of some aspects of it.

I chose the skeptic option because I think there are problems in how the climate issue has been politicized. We're presented with 2 options: you either believe in man-made climate change or you don't. Other issues include interpretation of data, issues with predictive models, and the absurdity of proposed solutions....

A propagandist does not need to be clear thinking.

It's equally crazy how I've debunked your "I can't breathe" nonsense about 10 times yet you keep repeating it as if it holds any weight. Floyd screeching he couldn't breathe before he even went to the ground makes his words meaningless. We have the video and the autopsy. He was screaming at the top of his lungs for 6 minutes and lifting his head up numerous times. He could breathe.

Symptoms leading to a cardiac arrest may include chest pains and shortness of breath. Sure Floyd wasn't able to diagnose himself perfectly and called it how he felt it ("I can't breathe") but it's quite ridiculous to call it meaningless. Flailing and screaming in these circumstances is not surprising and I'm sure all this will be looked at during the trial, including what effect the restraint had on it. Dismissing anything he said or did outright because Floyd was a "criminal" (suspect really at that point... suspected of passing a fake note) is wrong.

Sure, one cannot dismiss anything he said. But the evidence from the ME is anatomical. It is what it is.  If there is no evidence there of a strangulation, there is nothing more to say. That means there is no evidence of such a thing.

Achieved racial harmony. Oh, and he aced that dementia test. No-one is more stabler or geniuser.
Well, he certainly did things toward "racial harmony." Like passed the criminal reform legislation.

But with the opposite political party here continually fomenting real and fake racial injustices, it may just depend on your viewpoint. Out in the real world I'm in every day, where I live, there is racial harmony. On the TV, there certainly does not seem to be.

Fake news?

To add -
"Police subdual and restraint" is not asphyxiation or neck compression. No physical evidence supported asphyxiation according to the Minneapolis ME's office.

Well, death by say, strangulation does leave evidence that would be found by the ME.

Oh I thought you knew.  There are multiple witnesses and video of the cop with his knee on the guys neck for 8 minutes while Flloyd is literally begging for his life.  Ok technically he only begged for ~6 minutes, he was quiet for the last 2. (he died)

Got it. But I'm fine with the Medical Examiner's summary of the causes of death. Including any revisions he may make to it, and any uncertainties that may exist.

I'm not at all fine with yours, and that was my initial note. You're trying to fit the events into your/your group/your tribe's narrative.

Your narrative is Systemic Racism + Police Brutality

Because just like with George Floyd, who had three times the lethal dose of Fentanyl in his blood when he died, the reason he died had to be systemic racism and police brutality.

Because that's the narrative, and facts don't matter.

Speaking of narratives, you're repeating defense lawyer's argument as if it's a fact. And even if it was a fact, it doesn't make it right to kill a person. If someone has overdosed they need medical help, not cops strangling them. Just like being out after a curfew shouldn't carry a death penalty. Et cetera.

Hmm...we've got toxicology, it is what it is. But check this...

The FBI asked the Armed Forces Medical Examiner to review Baker's autopsy and they agreed with his findings, writing "his death was caused by the police subdual and restraint" with cardiovascular disease and drug intoxication contributing."

I'm fine with that take on the matter.

But regarding narratives.

The gibbering babboons of the LEFT need a simple narrative they can repeat endlessly.

NAR = (Systemic Racism + Police Brutality)^21

And here you are trying to bring in reality...
Do you need to be sent to the Re Education Camp?

This isn't an refutation to Joe Biden only condemning violence once it affects his poll numbers while standing idle as riots happen across the country, including Portland which is going on nearly month 3. I actually do care, believe it or not. But I'm also not a fool in taking Biden's word for his condemnation of violence while offering no plan to counteract these rioters whilst also spreading this baseless accusation that Jacob Blake was killed with malice intent due to racist cops without even having all the facts.

I'll ask you again. Where was his condemnation months ago when all this violence was taking place after George Floyd's death? Why is Joe Biden immediately jumping the gun and insinuating the officers were racist and that Jacob Blake was shot because of malice? Why did Joe Biden say the cops should be held accountable, implying guilt?
Because just like with George Floyd, who had three times the lethal dose of Fentanyl in his blood when he died, the reason he died had to be systemic racism and police brutality.

Because that's the narrative, and facts don't matter.

No, they are not unsubstantiated.

Goodyear  corporate affirmed that BLM is okay with them, but Blue Lives Matter is not.

im tyred of hearing trumps spin. his pressured air, his lack of grip... he's just over inflated

employee's of goodyear are sppose to wear goodyear branded uniforms
if you went to a mcdonalds and the manager seen their staff wearing playboy, or justin bieber clothes instead of their mcdonalds uniform. they would send the staff home to change into the proper uniform

i find it funny how spendulus (usually a reasonable mind) is going to avoid goodyear simply because the company want their employees to actually wear the employee uniform

whats next. avoid going to the grocery store because one day a insane shop worker turned up in only underwear.. and the store has an appropriate clothing policy so sent the worker home. to get dressed and your now going to avoid a grocery store because they dont allow workers to turn up in just underwear

..
sorry but companies have uniform policies. get used to it

Condescending "uniform policies" bullshit, is it? As usual you don't have a fucking clue as to what's going on across the big pond.

Here is the problem. (it's not the MAGA hat thing)

BLM= OKAY
All LM / Blue LM = Not Okay

Trump tries to cancel Goodyear, Backfires, Biden campaign releases ad capitalizing on the situation. Thoughts?

Where I heard of the story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6JyFb3_85E
(Secular Talk on YouTube,  Kyle Kulinski Show and one of my favorites. Kyle is honest, funny, and very sharp. He is extremely progressive and probably to the left of most people here on the forum)

I think that this gives biden a little advantage, but it's all still up in the air. If you asked me who'd win 6 months ago, I'd say Trump vs Biden, Trump would win. Trump vs Bernie, Bernie would win.

But now I'm not so sure. I think Trump is slightly more likely to win than biden by a hair.

My takeway is that Trump really likes to play up conspiracy theories. He is exposing himself as a hypocrite right here. He talks about fake news but he is lying to the American people all for his own benefit and against American interests.

It borders on treasonous. If the details are the way I understand them, Goodyear has to sue Trump for defamation or whatever.

Edit: Forgot closing parenthesis ")"

Looks like Goodyear wants to have their cake and eat it too. They affirm the policy that BLM is okay but ALL or BLUE LIVES MATTER is not allowed.

Rather, Goodyear said in the aforementioned statements that its “zero tolerance” policy allows workers to express support on equity issues, but also that it asks employees not to express support for political campaigns or to advocate for issues that fall “outside the scope” of equity issues.

If you're interested in literally reading the DNC platform: https://democrats.org/where-we-stand/party-platform

If you want a quick summary (pretty unbiased imo): https://www.wsj.com/articles/heres-where-the-democrats-stand-on-police-funding-marijuana-and-medicare-11596052231

I'll once again revert back to my laundry list of cities attempting to dismantle or defund the police. Again, Biden, as I've said before, doesn't have authority to defund the police nor does the DNC on a federal level have any authority to dictate what their democratic governors do.
I think it's fine to point out what the ACTIONS of Demo governors and mayors are doing, and to note that few or NONE of their congress critters or organizations have rejected violence and mayhem. "Defund the Police" doesn't have to be in the National Democratic Platform for it to be something that Democrats are promising and doing right now.

It is what it is.

I'm sorry, but this isn't a Republican spin. This is the democratic platform in 2020.
Actually it's not.  There are democrats that support it, but that doesn't make it the Democratic platform.  .....
Violence is part of what the Democrats are condoning right now. I would not doubt the lying cunts have some words written on a document somewhere to cover themselves if someone says they are condoning violence.

So why waste peoples' time?
717  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: August 26, 2020, 02:55:45 PM
Teachers unions are demanding things such as medicare for all, higher taxes, defunding the police, bans on charter schools (and many other things that have nothing to do with opening schools) in order to open schools back up. Is this what Biden is referring to?

Good question. It's certainly what the teachers' unions think they need "In order to open back up." Or just what they want anyway, but for convenience they are pigeonholing the wish list under COVID.

And it seems this is far from over, as TikTok to sue US government over ban.

So they are going to fight and challenge Trumps Executive Order against them. Let's see how it goes, it's not clear as to where they are going to file it's lawsuit.
Lawsuits won't matter.

For sure there's been NSA/CIA/FBI involvement and advice in this matter.

But you and I don't know those facts.

We should all take note of the fact that ObamaCare was a program that shifted the burden of health insurance from the poor and sick people to those that are in the middle class. Some may say that it also shifted it to the wealthy (as I think there was some sort of tax that was placed on the wealthy in regards to ObamaCare.

Here is a pretty clear summary of the history and current status of Obamacare.

Obamacare is one gutted fish on ice.
