I would look at the logs after this happens (before you restart it obv) to see why the hash board has stopped in the first place.
863  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 on 110v with APW3++ on: December 28, 2017, 11:49:38 PM
Great, thanks all.
One last quick question.  The included documentation says the total current at the wall for an S9 is 20A.  Is that correct, it seems a bit high?  Wouldn't it be 14A?  Or am I missing something (ie. power factor is not 1)?

It pulls around 6.5-7 amp at 220 so around 14 on 110 is right. If its pulling 20 amps id say grab a fire extinguisher lol
864  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitmain Antminer S7 - Modified Hash Board - Need help on: December 28, 2017, 11:35:29 PM
That is actually from bitmain. The original parts are on the top left corner of the hash board where the air intake is. As they didnt put epoxy over these parts to protect them they tend to corrode and die. That is the bypass fix. As usual sidehack is dead on in his guess.

I even have a bunch of leftovers, they were ordered straight through bitmain for board level repairs.

865  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Multiple instances of bmminer possible? on: December 28, 2017, 11:28:23 PM
If you are equating CPU usage to hashing power you are a bit confused. You cant run more than one instance of it, and there is literally no point in doing so. All you are looking at is the amount of memory on the controller. There is still only 3 hashing boards and they are all connected to one instance of bmminer. It would be like having 2 people both trying to sit in the driver seat and control a car.
866  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: clock speed on s7 ; safe to overclock? on: December 28, 2017, 11:25:26 PM
So, it held nice at 575. Overnight I lost internet, then after net came back it got real bad. One board was only at 25 degrees and hashing was down to like 3.4. I tried setting back to 550 and no luck. Then I did a "reset" within the hardware and it came back, but strangely defaulted to 700m.
It was using 1575w at the wall, and speed was low 4s, with errors like 0.7500. So I turned it down (up from original) to 600m. It hanging at like 4.4-4.9 and errors at 0.0115%.

Anyway, any thoughts on what happened? I thought I burned out a board or something??? Was that a sign not to go above 550?

Sometimes the boards will just stall out like that.  A power cycle will bring them back, it is common with the S7. If your factory reset defaults the speed to 700 that means someone has flashed the wrong firmware. They used a newer 45 chip firmware, which always defaults to 700. I would look for the latest 575 firmware and flash it like that because running your miners at 700 will burn them out if they are the old 54 chip models.
867  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 on 110v with APW3++ on: December 28, 2017, 11:19:15 PM
Dont do it, you will have problems. Even if you get it to start hashing on the PSU it will be overloading the power supply very badly. What you can do for now is hook it up to 2 of the hash boards and the controller and run it on 2 until you get the proper outlet setup for it.
868  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Consensus on wood vs. aluminum rigs? on: December 28, 2017, 09:50:39 PM
All of my rigs are wood frames on wire racked shelves. They have been running over a year this way with no other problems.
869  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: December 28, 2017, 09:48:43 PM

Yea those would work fine. Just make sure if you go with a 2 psu setup for the avalon you only use one PSU per hashing board. If you mix the plugs you will fry the equipment.
870  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is there a chart that shows profitability of mining in the past?? on: December 28, 2017, 09:45:31 PM
That would be something you would have to build yourself. In a few months when you have finished up you could share it with all of us.
871  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: December 28, 2017, 08:17:00 PM
The manufacturers work together more than against each other. It is in their best interests to not fight since there is more money than production capacity and it will be that way for the foreseeable future.
872  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S9 Missing the Temperature Setting and the "Advanced Configuration" Tab on: December 28, 2017, 05:01:17 PM
Its not missing anything. Those values are no longer user modifiable with the autotune firmware they now use.

Also, the s9 can run to 110c so an 80c shutdown limit does not apply anymore.
873  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 - Actual CFM at full fan RPM on: December 28, 2017, 04:56:54 PM
I think you guys just need to accept the fact that you bought an INDUSTRIAL miner that makes lots of noise because its not meant to be ran at home. Every day people are posting on how to make the miner quieter. ITS NOT MEANT TO BE QUIET. Putting weaker, quieter fans on it will just cause you problems. Just accept that you did not do the proper research before buying it and now you have to deal with the consequences.

Also comparing an s5 to an s9 makes no sense. With each generation of chips the heat load increases by a ton so what works for an s5 has zero bearing on what will work for an s9.
874  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Issue with Avalon 6 and Raspberry Pi 2 - $25 to whoever can help on: December 28, 2017, 04:53:32 PM
If you are getting the rainbow screen the RPi isnt booting, you should see openWRT booting if you have a monitor connecting. You might be flashing the image wrong, but it is not booting.

Also, how do you expect to get your Avalon working without an AUC? That is needed to connect the miner to the RPi.
875  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: December 28, 2017, 04:46:32 PM
To all those talking about the PSUs, I never said go with a mining company cheapo PSU. I have personally experienced near 30% out of the box failure rates on Bitmain PSUs.

When you mine as a business or as your sole source of income, ancillary costs are very important to keep low.

EVGA 1600w 80+ Platinum PSU is $450

HP Server 80+ Platinum 2250-2450watt PSU can be had for around $60 and requires about $15 in cables and solder.

You are talking $50k in ATX to run 120 units versus under $10k

In the mining game you dont ever sell off your PSUs, you reinvest in newer hardware that can run off the same PSU as the old stuff. And since you have a PSU with 850w more power you have the flexibility to do things like run two Avalons off of one PSU thus cutting costs even more. Ill take my 60-65% loaded PSU right in its efficiency curve over an ATX PSU running at 90% load working much harder any day.

876  Economy / Services / Re: 8 MW Mining farm in NE Pennsylvania on: December 27, 2017, 10:05:31 PM
You dont want to sell hash rate contracts within the USA. They are considered securities and will get you in a lot of trouble.
877  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Network Hashrate Growing at .05% per day!!! 5k s9's on: December 27, 2017, 09:46:12 PM
Yes the ignorance displayed here in your comment is amazing.  If bitmain has so many sitting on ground and nowhere to put them then WHY are they not shipping immediately?  Hmmmm

Have a nice day

Br

1. Some of us actually do this for a living and know what we are talking about. I make the statement having firsthand knowledge of the situation, im not talking out my ass like most people on here.

2. The company is sitting on so many because it is hard to find hosting, there is a global shortage right now. Look at the GND debacle. They dont ship out already used up miners like the conspiracy theorists like to claim. They will sit on their old product that was produced specifically for internal use and sell customers the new ones being produced batch by batch. I have been to their facilities and have seen it in person.

Anything else you would like me to correct you on?

878  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: December 27, 2017, 07:27:55 PM
Any idea if they'll use the same PSUs as the 741s? More specifically the EVGA Supernova 1300/1600 G2? I notice it's 8X6pin versus the 6X6pin the 741s used. Im assuming it can because the S9 can use the EVGAs with 9X6 pins.

If you are using ATX power supplies you are so doing it wrong. People should know better by now.
879  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitmain Antminer U2 USB Repair, is it possible? on: December 27, 2017, 07:07:37 PM
If they let the magic smoke out you are pretty well hosed.
