921  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Electrum Wallet + BitBox02 on: March 03, 2023, 10:10:43 AM
I thought if I connect Electrum to the BitBox I get 2 seeds

1x from the BitBox
1x from Electrum

but I think I'm wrong.
The coins are still on the seed of the BitBox because Electrum only serves as an interface

You start to understand.
The point of having BitBox (or any hardware wallet) is to not allow Electrum handle the seed (and private keys) because Electrum stays on a computer connected to the internet, thus unsafe.
As long as you have BitBox correctly set up and connected, Electrum will know that it doesn't have to handle seed/keys/signatures, instead ask BitBox do that job.

"The coins are still on the seed of the BitBox" <- this is not correct, but still a not too bad representation either. The coins are not in a wallet or a seed. They are on the blockchain and anybody can see them as long as he knows the address(es). And that's OK. However, only the person(s) having the private keys (which are created from the seed) can spend the coins. And that's where BitBox helps in a secure manner.
922  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Electrum Wallet + BitBox02 on: March 02, 2023, 08:51:25 PM
Unfortunately you misunderstood my question.

I only use the hardware wallet as a security device to authorize my payments.

My coins stay on the Electrum Wallet not on the BitBox

You misunderstood how bitcoin works. The coins are never in a wallet, they are on the network. The wallet only handles the keys (and shows the amounts).
This being said, as long as you have a properly backed up seed and nobody else has access to it, you're good and you'll be able to recover your wallet/addresses/keys. It's preferable to do that with a/another hardware wallet for obvious reasons.
923  Economy / Economics / Re: Would You Consider Adding Bitcoin to Your Retirement Savings on: March 02, 2023, 08:47:29 PM
Bitcoin’s future remains uncertain for now so it’s actually not bad to reserve some bitcoin for retirement so that if ever the price surges high, at least we can also benefit from it and will make our retirement days valuable. But let’s not also forget to secure fiat before bitcoin because it’s an obvious fact that fiat will still be highly needed in the future especially if we have some maintenance check ups and medicines that will help us live a longer life.

The thing is... that nothing is certain. Not even fiat. And I don't mean the current day's inflation, which is still not huge (but far from small either).
But look at Venezuela and their fiat. Do you really think that something like that (2018-2021) cannot happen to "better" fiat, like EUR or USD? Not now, but maybe in 20 years? Never say never.
That's why keeping some eggs in more baskets is the best... if one can afford that.
924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin is lost in a wallet can it ever be recovered on: March 02, 2023, 06:23:14 PM
The reason for this question is that I just wanted to know if after losing one's bitcoin, will it be accredited to the number of Bitcoin mine even if the wallet can never be recovered

If Yes then can't the wallet be trace back Afterall it is possible to see the number of Bitcoin own by an unknown individual through bitcoin Blockchain and with the years of dormancy of the address its possible to know if the wallet address might be lost and if the address as been long (like 2010, 2011 or 2012) such address could easily be hacked because it likely an Hot wallet and security was not that strait

1. No matter a wallet is lost or not, the coins will remain on the address they belong to, no matter what. And that's because there are many cases that addresses from very long ago are actually not lost (one example is collectibles / funded Casascius coins). And if bitcoin would implement a way to get those coins, that would be stealing.
2. You say that those addresses can be easily hacked, still, I've didn't hear of any such hack. Do you actually have any proper info that can back this assumption of yours?
925  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: March 02, 2023, 03:05:38 PM
I know it looks bad ATM, but they do seem hopeful for that set of upgrades that are coming with that race. As they mentioned, they already froze the current design of the MCL60 about a month or two ago, because they realized that they wouldn't get what they were aiming at aerodynamically, which is why they're looking for that race as it will probably represent a drastic change in philosophy for that segment.

I've only seen the first day of pre-season and I've stopped there. I think that the first two races will tell much more than the test would do.
Plus, if Mercedes is so far behind, I kinda doubt Aston Martin would be that close.
I hope that the gaps (overall) are not that big and that we'll see some nice racing. I'm curious if Oscar or Nyck will perform some miracles on the grid; I wish they will Wink
926  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you know which Bitcoin wallets provides complete anonymity & privacy? on: March 02, 2023, 02:58:16 PM
PROS-

  • High level of anonymity and privacy.
  • Offers coinjoin transactions for added privacy.
  • IMO it has a user-friendly interface.

CONS-

  • May not offer as high a level of anonymity as other wallets

Electrum offers coinjoin? Must be a copy-paste mistake.
Also coinjoin is imho overrated, since the link between coins/inputs is not broken and also the coordinator knows about all the movements.
And, let's not forget: you could have been also adding at least Bitcoin Core to the list. Maybe Sparrow too.

The 2FA part was already said, I won't repeat that.

Avem reeditarea unui concurs usor si bogat:

Link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5441696

Organizator: joeperry

Premii: 60$, 40$, 20$. Premille sunt in bitcoin.

Termen limita: 7 Martie 23:59:59 ora forumului.

Numele utilizator
Numarul ales.

Bafta!

Concurs incheiat.

I guess Mods already deleted their posts.

Luckily I've made a proper archive of his post history (well, only first page, but it's good enough), it will be available for posterity in his trust feedback.

But my question is, what will people do with such newbie forum accounts? Anyone can create an account with an email, and it's free.

This is a Copper Member, hence it can post images and has some few more things allowed.
However, you do have a point, I'm not sure what the account owner was expecting...
930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Invest in Bitcoin by selling wife's jewelry on: March 01, 2023, 11:53:27 AM
No risk no gain...

First of all your wife should be OK with that. Then you have to be aware that the chances you'll ever buy back the exact same items is slim.
This being said, jewelry usually fits in "what you afford to lose" and bitcoin price is indeed expected to rise greatly (with the note that reality may or may not meet the expectations).

I would not do that, but I don't buy too much jewelry either - we don't keep more than what my wife wears - however, if my wife would keep some piece(s) for the memories they bring, I would probably not sell them for Bitcoin.
Still, it's your choice and I wish you best of luck! (which would mean bitcoin price rise greatly; something I do like to see.)
931  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcointalk, we have a new member of the forum administration on: March 01, 2023, 08:44:18 AM
But, I'm pretty sure we haven't seen the last of him.

There's lately a "wave" of old accounts that start claiming they're admins and some also send "welcome" PMs to newcomers telling about a so-called forum's wallet (obviously a scam).
So yeah, good catch OP and let's keep our eyes open.
932  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A question on transaction speed. on: March 01, 2023, 07:45:36 AM
gas fee

Bitcoin doesn't have gas fee. Bitcoin has transaction fee.

Ethereum and its tokens use gas fee and that's not OP problem.
Even more, if you start confusing people they may end up using wrapped bitcoins on other chains, and that's risky since those are only tokens borrowing bitcoin name (and claiming to be pegged to it's value).

So.. let's stick with the original bitcoin, OK?
933  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A question on transaction speed? on: February 28, 2023, 09:11:31 PM
What determines speed of transactions?

The quick answer is: the fee you're paying (counted as sat/vByte)

Transaction confirmation means that it's included by miners in a mined block. The miners will (almost) always include the ones with higher fee, since they want to earn more money.
And with new blocks being mined every ~10 minutes, sometimes, when the network is more busy, a higher fee can get your transaction mined faster.
For a better view you can take a look at: https://mempool.space/

The withdrawals from exchanges go "faster" because the exchanges overpay the fee.
934  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin’s Future Hinges on Donations, and That’s Got People Worried" on: February 28, 2023, 08:28:50 PM
Now that you mention it, it's been at least a few months since I've seen a new article reminding us that bitcoin is single handedly destroying the planet. Perhaps this is the start of a new angle of attack? With Wuille, van der Laan, and now Falke all stepping down in recent months, then perhaps the next article will be about how devs are "abandoning" the project?

That will have to wait. Now there's the drama about BUSD going down, about Binance going down (I've already seen this movie after FTX, is it a re-run?)...
Now they have ammo to keep buyers worried (and losing time). When they'll get no other "news", then the "abandoning" story is just as good as any other and may worth publlishing Cheesy
935  Economy / Reputation / Re: Ban member GodsOfSolana? on: February 28, 2023, 08:03:35 PM
but aside from that I don't think a ban is necessary in his case.

I agree to that.
I would add that it may worth a negative tag for account selling, just in case only his post history gets wiped. (Edit: I've added the tag too)
936  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-02-24] CNBC -For the Black community, bitcoin represents an opportunity... on: February 28, 2023, 07:54:19 PM
For the Black community, bitcoin represents an opportunity for wealth preservation

Yes, it is. And so it is for all communities, no matter the color, religion and whatever stupid and outdated classifications they might use. Ah, and it helps everybody, no matter they have a bank account or not.
And bitcoin offers that same opportunity also for those from outside USA, which seems also somewhat... overlooked.

The first slavers were the blacks and the Arabs, 200 years before the whites. That's the whites who stopped slavery

Indeed, slavery was there for long. Wars between villages, castles, cities, whatever, sooner or later led to slaves.
It doesn't have to be done by bringing people with ships across the ocean to still be slavery.
937  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is the Binance the next to bite the dust or FUD? on: February 28, 2023, 07:43:21 PM
While CZ clearly cannot be trusted, I think that Binance, even if it may be in a difficult situation, may get lucky. I think that Bitcoin price going up has relieved a lot of pressure from all those doing odd businesses, since now their reserves (most probably fractional) worth more in USD.

BUSD may go down. But it won't drag Binance with it. At least that's what I think.
938  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Electrum server on Windows: Fulcrum on: February 28, 2023, 07:29:18 PM
Thanks for the guide (even though i rarely use Windows). Did you check how much does Fulctrum use? Fulctrum GitHub page said it has minimum 1GB RAM, so i wonder if it actually use 1GB or less.

Thank you for the kind words.
I've fired it up and I have the numbers while syncing (blocks from about half a day) - first image and from when it was quiet - second image.
The data is from both Task Manager and Process Explorer.

As you see while syncing it goes up to 1GB, but when it's cool it's much lower.
Also I'd add that I have in config

Code:
db_max_open_files = 80

which is higher than the default and may have as result some more memory allocated, but honestly I didn't read much into the docs and I may be wrong with the implications.
However, at some point at startup it was showing:

Code:
DB memory: 512.00 MiB
939  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [GUIDE] Overview of the trust flags on: February 28, 2023, 02:48:23 PM
I'll bump this since it would be useful to be read by more people and I also come with something potentially interesting.
It's only partly related to flags - it's more related to the red warning - , but it's a behavior of the forum that may be good to be known.

I mean this:

Logged-out users will now see a warning in trust-enabled sections if more DT members neg-trust the topic starter than positive-trust him.

This increases the responsibility of DT members not to give negative trust for stupid reasons, but only for things that cause you to believe that the person is a scammer.

And for a better context I'll add this topic.

@Upgrade00: if you think that this information doesn't belong here, please PM me to remove this post and I'll do that.
940  Other / Archival / Re: Trust flag bug or normal? on: February 28, 2023, 02:43:04 PM
But he has no flag created on his profile - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=806776

Just logout and check any of the topics OP opened up especially in the marketplace boards like the one in the link he shared. The warning in the red banner will show up.

That's correct. I thought that OP has mistaken something.
TryNinja's quote clears it up completely. I didn't know either about this behavior.
