Its my understanding that the k64 will only have or need 1 pci-e and will also be connected with the I2c already in place (to the other 3) I am "assuming" the k64 will be just like the k16 and each board will have its own pci-e connector inplace, in case someone wants to seperate them. The one pci-e will draw 128 watts for all 4 boards. As far as the k16, Ofcourse 1 pci-e and they are supposedly coming shipped with an I2c cable per unit. They will draw 32 watts each. I like you would like a 2nd and 3rd conformation on this however! Smiley

EDIT: Especially if the k16 will have 4 pci-e connectors or just one. Because if seprated, then the only way to chain would be with the I2c cables..... which as 3 would not have pci-e connectors,,,which doesnt make sense,,,but that may be why they have a k64 to save money..? (eliminate 3 pci-e connectors) good question on that one there...since we have no picture or spec on a k64 so far..

Since the boards only have a I2c cable between them, it's my understanding that you will need 4 pcie power cables going to one K64 board.

If you go to bkk's site and get the data sheet it's really is just 4 boards right by each other.  I would love to see the board printed and a picture of it since you never see one and nobody ever talks about them.  Since it's 2 weeks from when they were hoping to ship you would assume they would have some K64 boards printed.

hmmm,,,,I was thinking 1 pci-e would power all 4 boards on the k64 and draw 128 watts etc. So if what your saying is so,,,and very well may be! ...then we would need 4 pci-e connectors for 1 board...ewe,,,thats not what i had planned for,,seems they would jump/chain the power off of 1 pci-e for all 4 boards? makes ya wonder why even have a k64 board otherwise? guess we need some more clarification on it,,

Also, TH does that k16 figure take into account the k64 boards? is that a single board (k64)...or 4 k16's somehow placed together,,,lol,,,been a little confusion on that.... Thx

k64 is 4x k16 printed on one larger pcb.  they can be separated, but not that easily   Undecided

also just saw in steamboat thread

B3 avalons (7 in total) just arrived for my group buy. Hopefully this means the chips will follow soon!

We are printing K64s with perforation between all the K16s, so that they can be separated easily.

I have a question in regards to this. So if the boards have perforations. Does this mean that i need 4 PCI-E/I2C connectors for each K64 board? Or is 1 PCIE and 1 i2c if daisy chaining all that is needed for each board? I had assumed the boards wouldnt be able to be easily detached. therefore would have hard connections between the 4 k16's. Please advised as i may need to gather more supplies..Thx

Edit: If it does require 4 for each is TH supplying the add'l I2C connectors? I know I read at least  will ship with each board.

Only if Terrahash would post on the status of the Avalon chips and whether or not that feel they can still meet the delivery window for meeting all orders by 8/15...

This would put everyone at ease. The silence from Terrahash is deafening...

Have you read the board? Terrahash just posted twice today. To answer your question, we are all waiting for Avalon to ship the chips to Terrahash. Terrahash is ready to make our boards as soon as Avalon ships the chips. We are all at ease. Terrahash is doing a great job.

Sheesh, I feel like we just flashed back to 5 weeks ago...
lol,,, ya we dont want to go back to that dark period Smiley

Hey KL, was meaning to ask did you get  an ATX Bridging plug 24 pin?...I went ahead and ordered a couple....Don't think it was on your list,,,I assume we will need that to?? for psu on/off

Any word on anyone else receiving the chips after Zefir's batch one?

We are heavily invested into this, and it would be a shame if Avalon is causing unnecessary delays.

For an update: We have all the parts/components needed for assembly of up to 200,000 chips (12,500 K16s) either on stock, on the way to us, or on order due to be delivered within the next 2 weeks. We will be assembling 60,000 of our own chis, and have so far received orders for assembly of about 40,000 chips. We expect more people will send their chips our way, once they get them.

Thanks for sharing that with us,,,,Im sure we all will looking for any tidbits regarding the shipments. Sounds like you guys are ready to pull the trigger as soon as they arrive,,,I guess use this time wisely and be ready! We are all waiting with you! Smiley

with a difficulty increase of 18% every 2 weeks your ROI is around feb 2014 (70 + 20 % = 84 btc)

And you think the foundries can keep increasing ASIC chip production by 18% every 2 weeks do you?

Utter nonsense.

plus, I dont know how many GPU farms are still mining BTC,,,but the bigs ones 50-60 g/h, a couple I know of, still are and they havent dropped out yet...so lots of room to absorb asics increasing difficulty,,,plus in theory BTC Value should rise overall....with difficulty, I hope we are seeing that begin now some? Smiley

Talk about them wasting electricity still mining BTCs... I already switched all mine (not much, lol) to LTC., it's at 2x profit vs. mining BTCs at this point.
Ya me to Zurg,,,actually hitting it hard with Feather Coin all week! so far so good....

Nah it will produce more than that way before that I estimate 10-11 weeks roi give or take....

I wonder if terrahash has anymore inspiring news for us?  like a fresh video of a k16 hashing at 5600 g/hash (16 x 350 m/h as reported by BG from his visit)  that would be something nice to see and keep our spirits up  Shocked  So how about it TH a fresh video maybe?  lol

I'd settle for them answering the support tickets, but apparently there was nothing said on that front when bar visited.
Hey atomic,,,have you gotten a refund yet???. are you still in cancel mode? lol

How's it going Bargraphics - get your hardware yet - nah thought not!  Embarrassed

Gotta love fanboys
Come on now...be nice....has BFL got their 70,000 back orders shipped yet? TH  still has about a month to make their commitments...... AND they were the first to actually get a board fully up and hashing at full speed..... Smiley they gained some respect in that regard.....
3652  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: July 30, 2013, 01:54:17 AM
Have they receive the new revised PCB board yet ?

They have all the parts needed to produce the boards and are 100% ready for when the chips arrive.
Again, they were very confident in their ability to get the customers their finished product asap.

Thanks for the effort. But did they shows you a prototype of the board hashing at full speed (350mhz)?

No they didn't but I also didn't ask to see one.

Again 350 is the MAX the board will do without additional cooling. I'm not sure if that is what they will be hashing at when they arrive at your house.

I'm sure we will know more very soon as Avalon Chips start to arrive and they are in production.
hey man,,,thx for going in to TH,,,if we really see 350 m/hash per chip thats pretty strong then. that put the k64 at 22500 mh and the k16 at 5600,,,sooooo that would be better than advertised right? Smiley who did you actually see there today?  and what were they doing?... lol,,,J/K not a lot more to really learn I know...guess we are all in wait mode for avalon to deliver...k, thx again bg.

I really wish we could get a clear picture of the size of board with heat sink attached and a template for the mounting holes in the board...Maybe I missed it?...but need to know depth with sinks on....if anyone knows yet?

Hey MMNC. I am working off of Steamboat's board info for dimensions of the heatsinks and such: http://liquidsyndesigns.com/shop/klondike.html
With heatsink, fan, and standoffs Steamboat's k16s are approximately 4"x4"x4" (10x10x10cm)
If we take off the fan, and subtract the length of the bottom standoffs, it looks like it's going to be about 2"-2.5" thick (including the PCIe connector).
It's approximate of course, but I think relatively close. On BKK's thread they talk about using heatsinks ranging from .75" to 2" thick. Standoffs are cheap from Grainger, so I bought 200 2" hex 4-40s.
Hey KL,,, FYI, so I just created an account with Grainger Etc...and went to check availablity on items and I realized, I have a Grainger store up the road 20 miles in Wilmington!! so ill be going there tomorrow (WILM) to pick up a GPU for one of my old miners, and am going to swing by and pick up the feet and standoffs you recommeneded in you hardware list,,,all for $2.65 + tax...lol   SWEET! I never knew about Graingers???  lol,,, Thanks again for the info! I really appreciate it..

Glad I could help! I was planning on buying standoffs and feet from a seller on ebay, but I thought that $10 for 40 standoffs was a little pricey. I did a search on google and Grainger came up. I was really surprised by how great their prices are. Did you check out the pc parts supplier I cited for your PCIe splitters? .99 each is fantastic. People are charging 3.99-6.99 a piece for them on other sites. Exact same parts, but $3+ cheaper. I ended up ordering 30 just in case. I have 14 k16 boards coming from Steamboat in addition to my terrahash boards, but his ones come with splitters. I figure that it's good to have some extra splitters on hand in case some are duds.

Hey KL. yes i have had an account with PC Outlet for sometime,,,,fotunately I have like 10 splitters from building Gpu Miners...lol, ok, I am going to graingers today and used you links/part numbers to identify standoffs,, may post a pic later of em!! thx KL

If you go with the heat sink labeled #4 on the BKK thread, you are getting good passive heating and much better temperature with fan cooling- around 45 C. I modeled that heat sink and posted it in another thread. I think, without a fan it was keeping temps around 80C. I did a model with a fan blowing over it but never posted the results.

I also modeled the Steamboat design, but said I wouldn't release any specs. Are they selling that design as the one in that link?

With a fan, the steamboat design did pretty well, but its passive cooling isn't excellent due to the small spacing of the fins.

Here is a link to the heat sink design I mentioned above (not the Steamboat design): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=208381.msg2631164#msg2631164
Wow,,,,what a difference 20 mm makes! Smiley Thx

Extending the fins by about 20 mm has reduced the temperature to 78C, approximately a 50% reduction in temperature.

Hey KL! thanks for that, I will look at grainger as well, I had found some standoffs on amazon, but not was i was looking for...2" is what i want. Cool beans! Thanks again KL.  ( the k16's are smaller than I had been thinking) so the k64's should be 8x8"
PS: I did see your hardware list you posted the other day, very nice list....just hadn't pursued the standoffs untill I maybe new the depth with heatsinks.... but the 2" should cover any final senario's

Edit: Just checked out the cooling link, after making another coffee lol, I really like that fan/heatsink set up! Now we are getting a better picture here... TY

Landed in San Jose last night. Everything looks good for the meeting on Monday.

If anyone knows anything fun to do around here let me know, I'm here for the week!

If you've got a car, Computer History Museum is awesome.

ya this sux...I have been gpu mining LTC for last 2 months,,, and this week I went through and cleaned up all my rigs,,, and said I think ill mine on the ol slushs pool for a few days, as he has been having great pool luck, so I did,,,  well was going to switch back over earlier" today but needed just a few more rounds to meet my minimum payout of .05....well 8 hours later here I still am and no closer to my payout before I switch back over...lol,,,, just my luck! oh well ,,,waiting on my terrahash Klondike's to ship one day,,,, and ill be back in this pool for sure,,, hopefully with 50 g/hash.. Smiley by then it my not be worth as much tho...lol

PLEASE get a board template for mounting holes/standoffs and the thinkness with heatsinks attached, and the exact dimensions of both boards...I know k64 is simply 4 k16's but.... and I assume sinks are on the back side opposite of the pci-e connecters etc.... but find all that out,,,and what the boards are actually hashing at last check :
THX! Good Luck

I was hoping to see pictures and specs of the DX Mini case by now?

Especially as all of my support tickets (3) regarding a refund for my case have gone unanswered. So presuming that I will not be getting a refund for said case, it would be nice to see what I will be getting?
Ya probably no refund without a lot of pressure....but, if your order is filled, it would be nice to have the case and all within. I didn't order a case as I was trying to make the most of my budget and put it all into boards for now. eventually I will order a case most likely. I assume the mini will look like the large only smaller....
